Sorry Andy - Silly Question

Once I have activated the Engineering Menu does it stay activated or will I need VCP every time I want to access it?

Thanks

Stays activated.

Im curious, when the muting is disabled, what happens when you get genuinly poor reception?

Don't know, as haven't experienced yet. At a guess you get a garbled signal like a portable DAB radio

You get a brief mute of the DAB, happened to me in an underground car park today.

I've found out how to restore the default settings easily today so this change is now reversible :)

..... And it doesn't seem to remember the settings change sometimes and I have to do it again. Bizarre.

But, as far as I am concerned this is a workaround to prove that more gain is needed on the antennae.

Well this is rather poor, is there an official fix as this wouldhave me demanding a factory fix for this.

I've communicated it into SUK.

I also have a case logged with Skoda UK. They investigated this earlier this year. They replicated the cut outs but came to the conclusion that this was normal for this make and model. The dealer is happily to activate the green engineering menu for a 30 minute charge. Before I do this SUK are going to look at Andy's findings.

I am wondering if the real solution will be an upgraded shark fin that does fm and dab. Not the O2 one with the bee sting as these are very susceptible to water. I had two fail.

I'll pass on any response.

Thanks, my contact is on holiday at the moment so I don't expect anything back for a fortnight.

I've also tweaked the background autoscan insertion and deletion thresholds, and I can see the local Lancashire multiplex which I used to get regularly in the hatch, but have hardly ever seen in the estate. It all points to a poor strength signal on the estate compared to the hatch.

I suppose I could get a hatch owner to do some testing next to me and we can compare the reported quality of signal when tuned to the same station, that would prove the point.

Sounds good, I wonder if in there will be a modification to a higher gain aerial in the side window.

Somehow I doubt it but I live in hope ..........

Well they have to do something to fix it.

The trouble is - nobody is reporting the problem. SUK say I am the only one who has ever contacted them to raise the issue.

They always say that :(

Fwiw a hire hatch i had for a month did the same, but i was assured it's been fixed now.

Mmmmm mine has already been upgraded to 0390 to try and fix it, and it is logged with the exec complaints department.

Hi Andy

Did you resolve the issue of getting your Columbus to remember the settings that you changed with VCP? The dealer is telling me a month and £50 so it may be more sensible to buy a lead and do it myself!

Did you have to pay tax to bring it in from Poland?

Thanks

Garnett

Nope - it forgets the settings when it goes to sleep fully, but I can enable it again in about 30 secs :)

Don't buy a lead just for this - put pressure on SUK for a proper resolution. If you PM me your case reference, and if anyone else has this issue as well log it with SUK and PM me your case reference and I will ask for them all to be tied to my case so they can't keep pretending that they have never heard of it before.

What is your FM reception like - mine is pretty poor compared to the hatch I had.

Thanks Andy - Just emailed them to ask for it. They keep phoning me to ask if they can close the case!

My FM is better than DAB but I tend to use my iPhone with Tunein in the Phonebox so that I get 4 Xtra and 5 Live so it hasnt really been tested.

Simple answer to that - when you fix the problem you can close it :)

Hi

Had a call from SUK today. They have insisted on closing this case down. They say it can go back to the dealer for retest. It would be a waste of a day to do this. Last time they said it dropped out but that was normal.

I told them that I did not want the case closing but they said it will be done anyway and that they have recorded my displeasure.

Any joy with you contact Andy?

Thanks

I too am experiencing DAB drop outs on my Scout, it has Amundsen, is it likely to be the same problem?

I did not get drop outs on my Leon, but Radio Newcastle is forever dropping when driving around Tyneside in my new car.
