  • Just had a call from Skoda - It sounds like we are making some headway. They are going to read this post and speak to Dan Wilson. My car is booked for service on Friday. In the mean time I have been a

My Golf loses DAB alot. I turned off DAB/FM auto switching.....id rather lose radio coverage for a short period rather than it keep alternating between DAB and FM unneccesarily. It also doesnt lose DAB half as much as it auto switches. Most of the time it loses signal there probably is none.

An annoying quirk but not something im going to bother my dealer about.

The stations I am listening to don't have FM equivalents ......

And it doesn't happen in other cars that I drive with DAB.

The wife scout (amundsen) seems to jump stations a lot - between DAB only stations generally, not sure if this related or maybe a setting she's done. Dab signal is a bit iffy around here on Dartmoor but my vRS (columbus) doesn't have either issue.

Are they both estates?

yeah both estates - i think the FM/DAB switching is definitely on in vRS (which is the one without any problems at all), will need to check the Scout. But for my sins i listen to the 'youths' station of Kiss in the vRS - which is definitely DAB only around here

Just checked and these are set...

Dab to Dab

Auto DAB to FM

L Band (whatever this is?)

Wife just said radio 2 plays up for 10 mins or so but settles down. However i think there maybe a screen issue, as when i was looking at these settimh and just trying it then it was turning options on and off when i had my finger close / hovering and not touching the screen ?

I have had Skoda on the phone to me today about this issue. mAxine has spoken with Technical and has been told SUK are not aware of any aerial problems on the estate!

I told the lady there were a number of comments about DAB drop outs on this forum, she advised me there may be talk but no one had reported anything to SUK, so they cannot see any problem??

I advised Maxine I would go back on the forum and see who else has reported this problem to them.

I eagerly await your comments guys, thanks in anticipation

I've reported it. I've even sent them a document detailing the changes via the Engineering Menu to turn off mute conceal to prove it is a weak signal that is causing it.

If anyone else is a regular M6 commuter, do you lose all DAB around Knutsford Services for a few minutes?

Sorry, Ive just realised that this thread does say "Columbus", mine is an Amundsen so this may not apply, sorry for not having glasses on, but I'll leave post below for now.

So, I remember looking at this issue back in November before I got my SE 4x4 Estate, Skoda sent me a Saloon as a Demo and that car definitely had a couple of  DAB drop-outs over the week I had it so I was expecting worse with my car. But, Ive had my Estate nearly 3 weeks now and done 1600 miles and so far, touchwood, not one dropout, so, have Skoda done something without telling anyone, am I just incredibly lucky, or is the issue also dependant on Geographic location, though with me working mainly around the Hereford/Brecon Beacons area, I would have thought I would have issues if it is. Dunno, I'll keep you posted.

It seems to apply to Columbus and Amundsen, but you will have a MIB2 Amundsen, and this seems to affect the MIB1 units.

And someone on the Briskoda facebook group compaining about DAB dropouts on a 2015 estate ................

Seems there is only one way to get this looked at by Skoda seriously - everyone log a case with SUK for this who is affected. They can't say they don't know about it then.

If we then post our case numbers in here, I can get the collated list over to my contact at Skoda.

My case number is SD-2015/11-005416

Thanks Gordon

A hire octavia used to do it all the time, while an A3 didn't.

Exactly the same route every day over a number of months, so it's not a lack of DAB signal.

I know the signal is fine in the areas I get drop outs. Looking at measuring values on my car last night on my drive so will set some logging up with GPS coords and signal strength and quality.

If I then do the same on an unaffected car on the same route :)

I've never had a DAB dropout on my MIB1 2014 estate - but then I spend 99% of my DAB radio-listening time shuttling back and forth between Bedford & Milton Keynes, and I think the signal is pretty strong.

Done 52k miles in my estate now as a technical support engineer driving country wide and get very few drop outs.  There are certain spots I loose signal as would be expected, but It's one of the few things I'm pleased with on the car.

Do you lose signal around Knutsford on the M6?

Andy, I've got an Amundsen MIB1 on a 14 plate Elegance and I get DAB dropouts but, I just put it down to a ****e signal much the same as when TV went Digital, it wasn't an improvement for the user just a cost saving for the broadcaster.

I might be wrong but, I just don't think the Tech is ironed out fully or as Technical Directors used to say in the ole days "It's not Fn ready"

The problem I have is that the O3 estate is getting dropouts in areas where the O3 hatch didn't, and not just one or two areas, around 10 dropouts on the M6 between Knutsford and Stafford, and the one around Knutsford is for a couple of miles.

It probably depends on which ensemble the stations you are listening to in that area belong. Are they BBC or commercial, national or local stations? It's likely to be a few months before I can give that bit of the M6 a try to compare my MIB2 Bolero.
