Who has DAB dropouts on estates with MIB1 Columbus or Amundsen?

Featured Replies

Voice commands might be better but hasn't sorted the DAB dropouts. Lost signal several times driving to a job this morning, all good on the way back, so much the same as it was before the update.

Still finding that the camera has an influence on the signal. If it drops I can turn the camera off and get the signal back. If I run the camera on its own from the internal battery it has no impact. If I plug in the power supply with it off no difference. Turn the unit on and the signal dips. Getting rid of the camara is not the answer. Even without it the signal is poor compared with my o2 shark fin.

This is such a pain!

There is no fix other than a separate external DAB antenna, which I am not prepared to do.

Basically, in areas that are not a strong signal it is not fit for purpose. A £20 Tesco battery powered DAB radio performs better.

Due to the 32mm square hole in the roof there isn't even an aftermarket option, and I can't find an OEM roof aerial with DAB and GPS with that base either.

Want to keep a close eye on this thread as I have experienced quite a few DAB drop outs (Skoda vRS Estate Amundsen MIB1) I do have a front dash-cam (mini 0806) plugs directly into the front 12v cigarette lighter & a rear view facing dash-cam (Xplore C1+) that plugs directly into the rear 12v cigarette lighter, I will need to try a few tests with the dash-cams unplugged to see if it makes any difference especially certain areas that I drive past with the DAB dropping out of range.

Did anyone find the correct fix or are the fixes all different from each other, from car to car etc...

The problem is usually with simply (and cheaply) built plug-in power supplies. They reduce the 12v DC system voltage to 5v DC by very rapid switching. This generates radio frequency radiation that can overwhelm the weak DAB signal. I have found that a more sophisticated 12 to 5v converter avoids these issues. I went through several different units before finding out that the original charger from my old TomTom Go730 was very clean indeed. I use this to power my dashcam and have no dropouts at all.

Apart from the fact that even without any dash cam fitted or mobile phone charger plugged in it is still not fit for purpose in weak signal areas.

Compared to a Fabia the reception is sub-standard.

Compared to the Alpine DAB headunit in our other car the Octavia's DAB is excellent - the Alpine drops out at numerous places locally but the Octavia is rock solid.
