All the idiots who pay for a VW badge must be feeling sick.

You know this affects VAG cars, not just VW?

I heard a snippet on the news last night that something like 1 million Skodas were also caught up in the row but as far as I can tell at the moment it only affects EU5 engines - yours will be an EU6 as it was a MY16 change, I'm sure.

I suspect IF there were any backlash (i.e. change in tax - which won't happen unless the cars are re-tested under a new regime AND it being retro-applied), it would only apply if you actually had the car at the time of any change - at which point ironically you'd be better having the car now rather than after any decision as for the moment, it's all speculation, here-say and scaremongering.

It's either going to blow over after a big wrist-slap (and VW can't sell diesels in the US and possibly Switzerland), or change the rules forever - if diesels do get hit with something later on, it will only be on new cars sold from that date in which case yours could be worth more as it's not subject to anything applied after a certain date.  People said that DPFs and DMFs would kill second hand values of cars fitted with one but that doesn't seem to have happened.

Any software "fix" might mean engines losing a bit of power, torque or economy - but that will most likely only be seen on a rolling road under the (flawed) simulated test conditions.  I expect this will be virtually undetectable under normal circumstances anyway.

VAG = Volkswagen AG. AG is the German equivalent of a PLC.

Meanwhile, the OP doesn't say he's buying the car. How about just leasing it instead, then you know all the costs are fixed and if the car needs to go back then (by the time they're worked out what to do) you'll be so far through the lease it wont matter if you loose a bit of deposit. Plus, if the car is a bag of poo post re-work it wont matter as you wont be keeping it.

VAG is commonly mistaken for standing for Volkswagen Audi Group, where in fact you are right it's V. AG.

However that doesn't change the fact that Volkswagen AG is the name that represents the whole group including Audi, Skoda, Seat etc

So yes Skoda Diesels are effected, making the original post correct regardless of what they think VAG stands for ;) Id expect most people on here to realis that (although not necessarily the general public)

Sorry, what's the point you're trying to make?

My point was that other cars from VAG (i.e. Volkswagen Group, which covers the brands VW, Audi, Skoda, etc.) are also affected, not just those with a "VW badge".

Wouldn't worry. Following this they're going to start on the overstated mpg compared to real world mpg. My tsi Vrs only gets top 20's in town and mid 30's on a legalish motorway trip.

Every car in the world could be recalled then....

Having still heard nothing from Skoda UK about which cars may be effected despite calling and e-mailing them and seeing no other info definitely implicating the car I have decided to pick it up. As far as I'm concerned having heard nothing else from Skoda despite enquiries then the car is OK and anything else is rumours. If it turns out not to be, and to be adversely altered from what I contracted to buy i'd expect a refund.

Frankly the lack of information from Skoda is shocking, I would have expected a professional company to have been able to say within a few days which engines were effected and it does smack a little of them being unwilling rather than unable to release that info. Whether incompetent, unconcerned or withholding the info on their part neither option is a good introduction to Skoda.

I'm sure it will be a cracking car but the joy of getting a new car has been tarnished slightly.

On the plus side, great forum. Learnt a lot on here and thanks for everyone opinion.

only answer i got from skoda in norway was that eu 6 engine is not affected. thats all they know at this time :x

I am in the same boat, collecting my MY16 Scout 184 tomorrow. What will be will be and I didn't buy the car for its emissions/tax levels so as along as performance isn't adversely affected by any (unlikely) recall then so be it.

I personally don't see a recall happening. I expect that IF anything material is to happen, the affected cars will be retested without the cheat device and the results from this will then be used for selling new cars from then on. If this new result means a change in tax band then this will only apply to cars sold after a particular date (such as 1st march 2016) and older cars will be unchanged with the government charging VW separately for the difference. This might make up a significant portion of any fines that are levied.

Well according to We Buy Any Car, mine has only lost £300 in the last month and the mileage has increased by 2500 in that time so no immediate effect on residual values it appears!
