Cheat Software, Tuning boxes and remaps

Featured Replies

If your car is affected by the Emissions cheat software and a ECU update is needed will this affect Tuning boxes and remap settings.

Will remappers have to alter all there maps on the affected engine's so they will work with the new software.

Dunno Andy,

If I'd had mine remapped I wouldn't let them near it as I'm guessing they'd overwrite it with their new 'map' but I haven't had mine remapped though if it means they will have to detune mine to get it through the emissions test I'll be wanting them to buy it back as it's not as they originally specified it would be.

I've been wondering about that. I have an STS with both OEM and Stage 1 maps, so presumably could put the remap back on. I don't like the idea they might hobble the power to get emissions into line with the official test results - but I can't see them doing that in the UK.

Are you or anyone really going to put your vehicle in for the Fix if your have a Remap or use a Tuning Box.

Or will you do it to keep a Warranty Valid.?

Why take in a car you are happy with, which will pass an MOT and you have Valid Insurance with Decalared Mods,

and play the Volkswagen Lottery game?

Can we, might we, we will suck it and see!

As to what the Professional Tuning Companies and Remappers need to do,

maybe their days are numbered in the UK for Road Cars & Remaps,

if this current carry on about EU Tests, Emissions, not as Factory /  Type Approved, Shown on the V5 tested etc etc.

It will take a year or 3 before the UK gets around to changing UK MOT tests again,

& before then a EU in out Referendum is due.

Maybe the UK will not be in the EU by the time the UK gets to changing MOT Testing and Emission requirements

on Euro 5 Engine cars & Light Goods Vehicles.

Mines not mapped George but I've been thinking about get a map or even I tuning Box. Looks like I'll leave it for now.  Do you think that affected cars still in Warranty will need the new software, If needed, to keep the warranty or will owners just ignore it and keep the car as it was bought.

At the moment I recon it is easier to answer the question "how long is a piece of string"........................

You can still get a Tuning Box..Just take it off when you need to...Simples!

What I'm getting at Chris is that if you run a Tuning box or a remap will new software affect the tuning box/remap.

Will the same TB or Remap run on the new software or will they need to be altered to suit

Don't hate me for blowing this one ;) But a particularly annoying director of mine kept trotting this out about our development estimates. So I politely as I could, I suggested that the length of string was twice the length from the middle to one end. Thus far easier to measure than estimating the unknown, hence the use of the word estimate.

If mine was mapped I'd leave it as is. I'd certainly not be the first to get it updated regardless. A rushed update under duress and spotlight has more red flags than I can think of for me. I'd be waiting for the 1.1.# release of the fix at least.

A piece of string is 15minutes and 42 seconds long. :)

Thats a EU piece of string, I think you'll find the American piece is slightly shorter

Usually I find a piece of string is either too long or too short for the job in hand, therefore it goes into the box for string, & another "lucky dip" selection is made..................or if in a hurry I cut exact amount of new ball.

I'm way OT......................help......!!!

Back on topic, I think the tuner box/software people are all wanting to know what VW are going to do as it will most likely affect the tuning software. If I had a tuning box or software I would only remove/revert to stock it say a week before the car has to go in for the campaign recall at the dealers. Then I would go back around to the tuner, & get their software sorted

Your car might go in for what ever Service Campaign that Volkswagen comes up with, or different fixes,

and come back with a 'Brand new Locked ECU'.

I would only have Volkswagen doing a fix or having someone doing a Fix if they guarantee the car comes back Performing better

and more efficiently for Economy and Power than when it went in.

Why give them the car other than because you want the Warranty Valid, but if you had already Remapped it is possibly Void anyway.

If you just use a Tuning Box then i suppose you have little to lose.

The thing is though you might have no option but to have the fix as it is regarding the Gov rating for emissions, tax, rating etc.............

Your car if you do not have the fix will not comply, remember the Audi TT when it first came out??................nice aero...NOT...............fix was ESP program & rear spoiler, don't remember too many not having the recall, I think even the insurers would not insure if you did not take up the fix................

'No option'.  we will see.

Dirty Diesels UK MOTs will need changing. They pass the Current MOT.

My dirty petrol user was not passing its last MOT on Emissions, no way was it going to pass.

& i had to change the switchable map to Stage 1 rather than the 'Stock Mode' (Not Valet Mode), and it was all well then.

PS

Did the TT not get some Ballast added. just like Skoda Bolted to the rear Crash Bar of the MK2 Fabia vRS

Vorsprung Durch Technik.  Advanced through Technology,  Everyone else goes lighter, we add an extra 25 kg!

Bad how Audi Road Tester spend so long on testing, Track. Road, around the World in Left Hand Drive Cars.

Fly the UK Motoring Journalist abroad to warm or cold climes to drive on the Right in Left Hand Drive Cars,

Write Rave Reviews, greatest thing since the last greatest VW Product, even Award a New car not on sale 'Car of the Year'.

Then they Build the Right Hand Drive and they get sold to customers and the handling is dangerous

or just not suited to the Country they are being Driven in.

Did Audi TTs just ditch find at 70 mph in the UK?

Enough that British Insurers deemed they were potential Killers.

And fatter :D

A piece of string is 15minutes and 42 seconds long. :)

the EU has just banned string

research has shown it can be used for un-European activity's

A piece of string is 15minutes and 42 seconds long. :)

Well that is one Theory
