Locost + Fireblade = Locoblade

Featured Replies

This is a bit of a retrospective project thread, as it's pretty much finished now, but I thought I'd drip-feed old updates on here to get people's opinions and comments.

December 2013:

Right, I've been after a project like this for ages and this one finally came up at a good price, so I went down to Stockport last Sunday and came down with this. It's is registered correctly as a bike engined Locost and comes complete with folders of paperwork and a spare 893 engine.

I know it looks like a bit of a shed at present, but I'll get her back up to standard before long.

If anyone on here is any good with auto electrics, I'd gladly use your help!!

Rough plans:

Sand and protect the chassis in full

Get the engine running sweetly

Fit new front suspension (rears already fitted)

Refurb or replace the floor with aluminium instead of steel

Make a whole new loom

Source and fit a decent set of bodywork

Refurb the minilites and put decent tyres on

Maybe fit a flappy paddle shifter

Maybe fit a full cage

Tax & MOT and enjoy in the summer

I'll let the pics do the talking:

Rear sanded and painted:

That 'might' be a 'little' bit quick! :D

Very nice.

Will keep an eye on your updates :)

BEC's are awesome fun, covered 1700miles in mine in last few months, even boring roads are fun!

Thanks for the comments so far!

Looking good.

Just be aware some people have had the alloy camber adjusters fail on the top front wishbones, you can get steel ones off the latheman on E-Bay or Rally Design.

This should be a good one to follow. :)

Only thing that puts me off stuff like this is crash protection. Was looking into mrs200's last night.

What crash protection?! Haha. It's more of a weekend B road blaster than a motorway hack. I'm doing as much as I can to be 'noticeable' in it. The guy I bought it off took it to LeMans from Stockport! Don't think I'd fancy doing that trip mind you.

Cheers mate, didn't know that!

mines using irs,so uses Sierra diff and shafts.

The alloy camber adjusters can crack around the nut shaped part on the insert,if that happens the insert is then free to slide out of the top wishbone.

This should be a good one to follow. :)

You can't think like that ;)

Just need to drive them like a biker rides a motorbike, expect all cars at junctions etc to have not seen you!!!

Mines the yellow one,carbed R1 engine,my m8's is a ZX12R powered MK Indy R :)

Vinyl wrap?

  • Author

Thanks, it's certainly nice and bright!

It's plasti spray (rubber paint). I was going to use paint and lacquer, but thought it'd chip and crack easily as the fibreglass flexes, whereas this spray has loads of flex in it.

Also, it peels off nice and easily too if I ever want to change the colour!
