Hopefully not a Lemon

Featured Replies

Hadn't but I have now :-)

cheers..

my only concern with buying private was that if it was to go pop afterwards I wouldn't have any recourse..

not to say it would..but for peace of mind a dealer warranty and protection is worth the extra outlay..in my opinion..

I couldn't disagree more with this statement unfornutately. If you find a well cared for car second hand it'll be as good if not better than dealer cars. Full service you'll be fine. Plus most dealer warranties aren't worth the paper they're written on. Like anything, do the research and find out common faults look out for them ( some mentioned already ) you'll be fine. And you can always take out your own warranty out on the car after purchase.

Just going back to topic,

I've had both phone calls & emails from the garage asking to stop my 'friends' from contacting them wasting their time about the car. Unfortunately, I have better things to do than waste my time apparently sending them emails as I am still looking for a new car and value my time than a petty argument with them over a car that I now wouldn't purchase from them or likely ever look at one from them in the future.!

The last one was this morning asking me to take down my 'bad' review of the garage!.. the cheek!! It was honest, had the facts and didn't by any means say anything that was either untrue or didn't happen.

I'd have waited to leave the review till after you got your deposit back.

Why haven't they refunded your deposit yet?

Searching for the reg on Google now brings up this thread and your review by the way!

They said it would take a few days to show back on my bank card as card refund... contacted the bank and this is the case..can take up to 2-5 working days..but usually sooner!!

Well, I enquired about a car yesterday..quite a few miles from me.. infact, I'd have to fly..but I can get an Easyjet or RyanAir for less than £30.. so thats what I factored in plus £100 fuel...

anyway after getting detailed pics, walkaround video etc I pitched them an offer.. quite a bit under asking price..

They pretty much point blank refused... But just had a call from them accepting it, and sorting out the couple of issues (refurbuing a wheel, few scratches)

I'm more than happy :-)

From a main dealer, so 12 month warranty and roadside, plus a tank of fuel to get me home!

2.0 Tsi DSG with full Leather.. but no parking sensors :-(

Well done on the good deal. Might spot you around once you put up more details of your vehicle, as I only live in Didcot. My car did not have parking sensors when I bought it either, but had them fitted by a small company based in Sutton Courtney. Cost about £220. I know, could have fitted them cheaper myself, but I would hate to make a mistake drilling into the bumper. Good luck with the new car, I certainly love mine, more than the other half sometimes, ha ha.

I need to go to Didcot to pick up my personal belongings from the crash recovery centre that for some reason were all removed after my accident..before it was on moved to Swindon accident repair centre..so yes I may see you about..especially for some pointers..

Some would say being a manual is a positive. A manual gearbox will be much cheaper to fix than £2700 if it breaks, and also be less likely to break in the first place.

I only said it was a negative as Dwabo wanted a Dsg,i completely agree with what you say about a manual box.  :D  mines a manual.

The Head ruled tbh, an Auto is my only real option.. I can drive a manual but it hurts especially stop / start traffic so gonna risk the auto. At the end of the day there must be 1000's out there especially through the whole VAG range of cars and they can't all break.. Hopefully ?! Lol

Nothing wrong with wanting a dsg box,ive driven one & it was very nice to drive, there will be a lot more people happy with theirs & havent had any problems than those that have had a troublesome one, enjoy your new car & pop some pictures up of it when you get it.

Deffo, I loved it for the option of manual and paddle mode and ease of driving. Plus the MFSW that I can't believe doesn't come as standard in today's day and age.

Well jealous! Just couldn't get the figures to work out, hence you got called back. God knows Ian tried. Just too much negative equity on my Vrs TDI to make it viable. Enjoy it. The guys at that dealer will do you right. Always gone above and beyond for me.

You will not regret the DSG decision.

Every single time I get in the car I just find it an absolute joy to drive. So relaxing and comfortable without all that messing about with a gearstick and clutch!

Plus when it comes to it speed is very easily achieved... just plant your foot and go!

Got to admit I do love an automatic. Ok yes it takes away some of the dynamics of driving.. But still have the performance and looks of a vRS is a bonus too. Can't wait now to get it after all the stresses and strains of the previous car and relying on friends to drive me to view cars... It's cost a fortune in petrol money..

Hopefully all I have to contend with now is a 3hr coach trip to the airport, a flight.. And a 7 hour trip home. I must be mad !!

Lol. It will give you a good chance to get to know it on the way home at least.

A good car is worth traveling for!

Hope it all goes well.

20 miles to Oxford.

National express fm Oxford at 3am to Stansted.

Flight to Edinburgh.

7hr drive home. Lol.

Wow, no mention of the faulty gearbox... Maybe they have done the right thing and fixed / replaced it.

Hi Dean

Yes a very good example with excellent history.  When would you like to
come down?

They say they have fixed it and the reason they didn't tell me is because he (Matt) didn't like me. He has left me harassing e-mails and such ranting about wasting his time.. And said the car is now fixed.. But the reason he they didn't let me know was because he didn't like me or my attitude ! He, has also left me harassing emails telling me to remove my review of the garage ! It was factually correct of events as they happened and provided email transcripts to the site to verify the purchase.

I have told them to stop harassing me by phone or email before I take it further. Obviously this is all documented with the voice messages saved.

It may well be 'fixed' but I don't know what they have done. I can't comment. However it is also £500 more than it was. But it's certainly not £2700 worth of new gearbox they told me it needed.

Any chance we can read your review, I've looked on there web site and can't see it.

I see nothing wrong with that. It is factual, to the point and you have said nothing slanderous etc in it.

If they don't want bad reviews online then they need to sort themselves out and treat people right. All it would have taken from them was a phone call apologising profusely that they can't fix the gearbox and here's your £500 plus £25 goodwill back. We hope this won't put you off buying another car from us etc etc.

Phil

Yep I agree with Phil, you haven't in any way slated them, reads like a honest review to me. 10/10

Exactly my thoughts.

whether he liked me or not... working in customer service / sales, you may well not..but having £7500 in my pocket burning a hole and wanting to buy a car they were selling, well, you'd bite your tongue.

In fairness it wasn't Matt who sold me the car, it was Gary, who I believe is/was on holiday and Matt had taken up the reigns to sort the car out and get it fixed up and ready before I collected it.

C'est la Vie..

I now have a car with 20,000 less miles on it.. and over a year newer at not much more than the price I paid from Canfield garage..

I have read your review & cant find anything wrong with it,ive also read all the others & there is quite a few other unhappy customers, cars do go wrong but its how a garage deals with the problems that matters, hopefully your new car is a good one.
