Replacement Windscreen & Lane Assist

That surprises me, I was on the understanding that ACC and Front Assist utilises only the radar behind the grill, and that the windscreen mounted camera was purely for Lane Assist and Traffic Sign Assist.

Which seems to be correct, otherwise how come ACC and Front Assist work when the A5 camera used for Lane Assist and Traffic Sign Assists isn't fitted???

My Elegance has working ACC and Front Assist but only has the basic 20 camera which supports High Beam Assist but not Lane Assist or Traffic Sign Assist.

So noticed a crack this morning. Those who have had replacement and recalibration how does it work? Presumably the recalibration is beyond Autoglass and the like has to be done at a dealer. Is that correct?

Mine was done at Autoglass but it requires a visit to their workshop to carry out the calibration. It goes something like the pic below and takes a couple of hours

I was in and out of the Nottingham Autoglass Centre in 1.5 hours.

You’re wrong.  Autoglass  has the correct technology and experience and it’s done within your normal excess. The only additional expense is the cost of time and fuel to reach your nominated Autoglass repair centre. If you have it repaired at your home or place of work, a recalibration will cost you at least £125 at a Skoda dealers, as that was the cost 2 years ago. Once it’s done, drive into a decent stretch of A road or dual carriageway with clearly marked lines and Lane Assist should then work.

Did they recalibrate it there? I had to go to past Nottingham in my way to Derby.

Yeah I had to wait for Skoda to release the 3rd party software when mine was replaced by Autoglass in Oct 2017.

Finally got done when I shamed Skoda UK on social media

Yes, there Centre is in Bulwell I think. Replacement and Recal done without spending too long in the Cesspit.

There are photos in my “Living with the vRS” thread.

Thank you KevC, hopefully I won't have to go there for a 3rd screen!

I've been told on a few different occasions that a calibration certificate is essential after a windscreen repair, even if you always have the function turned off. Without it insurance may be invalid. Had my heated screen replaced by Autoglass via Admiral and the full cost was covered under the standard £90 excess. Not sure how true this is but I wouldn't be risking it and it definitely should be included especially if it's a standard function on the car.

Was your original windscreen an original, if so how do the heating element size compared old to new.  Are the elements in the new one bigger - is it a pilkington window?

I insisted on genuine Skoda (so replaced like for like). The fitter told me they have approval for OEM screens on cars under 3 years old only. Aftermarket from there on. Mate had an aftermarket heated screen on his Passat which was awful and he had to have changed again (wires extra reflective and even crossed over!)
