Real World MPG figures

Nice!

It is nice, probably more fun in a country where you see the sun more often.....

It's nice here today, but I can't use it. SWMBO's using the car.

(She thinks that my Superb is too big, not the best excuse IMHO!)

  • How's this for a 1.4act manual, Amesbury to Staines, 65 steady miles with about 12 miles of 50mph road works. Car set in eco mode.

  • Really??

Modern engines need very little real 'running in' and are unlikely to improve that much. Owners are reporting figures well below the worst case performance where the cars are failing to show mpg figu

Sadly they didn't sell well in the sunburnt country and withdrawn from our market.

I'm sure I read a stat that indicated the Uk bought more convertible cars than France, Spain and Italy put together... We are a bit odd over here though.

Bit OT ......personally hot summer nights are best plus crisp sunny days.......hot summer days are a form of torture to me.

First full tank was 52mpg on MaxiDot and 47.9 according Fuelly.

That's about 2/3 motorway, mostly with ACC on but mostly at Rush hour and rest is mixed.

I am neither slow nor fast.

Impressive for a new engine and big automatic car I thought.

That's interesting.  I'm on my first full tank so no refill yet.  MaxiDot is showing 5.5 litres/100km so 51 mpg.  Same driving conditions, similar approach.

My 150 DSG getting better and better.

Had record breaking 71 mpg commute home yesterday 40 miles 33 of which on m26/m25. Car now done 2000 miles and averaging 51mpg long term.

Best still to come.

Very happy.

Allow me to throw in my 280 hatchback - 21mpg  :notme:

Admittedly I was towing a 1.3 tonne caravan on a 150 mile round trip - 50:50 Motorway/A roads, sticking to 50/56 depending on the road.

My general commute in slow A road traffic is about 26 and best so far in general driving is 31mpg.

After nearly 5000 miles I am now getting an average of 30mpg, pleased with that.

I've just pulled up in Newport Pagnell services, having left Redditch this morning. Steady 70 mostly ACC. So, it can be done! Journey home will be more spirited, so I'd expect that leg to drop to low 40s....

^^ Had a similar journey yesterday - Leicester to Worcester @ 70.

That's astonishing Steve. How many miles have you done now? This is a 190 isn't it? I managed 54.9 this morning on about a 16 mile run on mixed roads driving at the posted limits, drive in Eco mode but that's the best I've seen out of mine. She hasn't hit 3000 miles yet though.

Hmm. First real urban driving completed - 252 miles mostly round town with the occasional spirited drive thrown in - measured mpg (fuelio) = 36.3mpg

I must admit I had hoped for a little more than that. Serves me right for going for the 4x4 190 DSG I suppose...

It's the 1600kg that kills economy in stop start traffic.

190 L&K Estate..

Been out for a 90 minute run today M25 and A21. Maxidot said 57 mpg average going using ACC and ECO. No ACC coming back a few hours later still ECO and 60.2 average. You don't get coasting with ACC maybe that's why its better.

Not been out that much since I got it so under 1500 miles on the clock still.

measured mpg (fuelio) = 36.3mpg

Just checked and maxi dot for the same period was 40.9mpg. I think I'll choose to believe the car going forward ;)

It's at around 7500 miles now. I find the economy very inconsistent, some days it's great, others over same route and driving it's struggling to get above 45mpg.

And yes, it's a 190 manual, engine in normal mode. ACC in normal mode too, though I tend only to use it in roadworks otherwise it's a bit clumsy meaning too often it brakes too hard, then accelerates up to cruise speed. If I drive manually, I use the brakes and accelerator far less.

Maybe it’s doing a regen on those trips?

I bought mine back from the dealers yesterday and couldn’t get over 40 MPG (15 miles) but the fans were going berserk whenI turned it off = regen time.

What's a regen?? Sorry to sound dumb...

When the diesel particle filter is becoming full, the ECU automatically goes into regen mode and increases the DPF temperature significantly to burn off the contents. It does this by injecting diesel straight into the DPF which is part of the exhaust. This will happen more frequently if the car is used on short city journeys rather than piping hot motorway cruising.

ACC certainly won't give good economy........it's dumb and one dimensional.

It simply cannot anticipate which is what is needed if economy is what you are seeking.

Imagine your brakes have failed and drive accordingly and you'll be amazed.

First tank after approximately 14 days of driving.

Daily drives to and from work about 10 km each way. Half the journey covered at speeds of 80 to 100 km/h and the rest between 30 to 50 km/h. Cold mornings of around 0 and afternoons have been around +8 Celsius.

Have done two long drives so far of about 110 km each at motorway speeds 110 to 120 km/h.

Most journeys though have been town driving with average speeds of around 30 to 50 km/h.

The first week drove the car solely in Comfort mode. The following five days in Normal mode and the last two days in Eco mode.

When we collected our car the salesman filled the tank with a little over 61 litres. On filling the tank today we had driven 748 km. This could mean that we did roughly 8.2 l/100 km or approximately 34.4 mpg.

The car info display showed that we could drive another 80 km and recommended that we refuel. After filling the tank with 64.90 litres the display shows that we can now drive for 810 km.

Here are some photos from CAR

I did think of that but unlikely, since mist of my mileage is 200 mile trips with a short coffee stop half way. It also means it's in regen mode more than its not which again is unlikely. I've tried avoiding full throttle bursts also to avoid filling the DPF up with soot, but that's made no discernible difference. Yesterday I made a short 25 mile round trip with a 30 minute stop half way, on A roads and built up areas and I managed 52mpg without trying. Most bizarre but very welcome
