Thinking of buying an SE L Exec 1.4 150 TSI DSG

Featured Replies

Hi All

I'm new to the forum, it's come time to start thinking about my next company car and the Superb has definitely taken my eye.

I work as a rep and do 25,000 miles per year, around 20k of which are typically motorway miles.  I'm in a Mazda CX5 2.2d AWD at the moment but company car tax costs have rocketed during my ownership so I'm looking for something big which has low company car costs - hence the 1.4.  I've had 2 Audi A3's previously (including a 125 bhp 1.4 petrol which I loved).

Basically, I want to test drive a 1.4 paired with the DSG in a Superb, 0-60 times seem great but I'm keen to try it out for real but no dealers near me actually has anything other than a 190bhp diesel in.  Does anyone with the 1.4 DSG have any comments to either reassure me or dissuade me from getting one?

I'm also in two minds about weather to go for the estate or the hatch.  In fairness the hatch will have more than enough room but lease costs seem to actually be lower on the estate (but co car tax slightly higher) - both cars will come under my monthly lease budget but i could maybe squeeze an extra option or two onto the estate.  I just have to decide which I prefer the look of I guess....then do I go for silver or white - so many decisions!!!!

Finally, does anyone here have the SE L Executive spec?  I've read on here that some SE Business cars have arrived with unexpected extras - any experiences of extras on the SE L Executive???

My option list will probably be this - would welcome any thoughts on if any of these are a waste of time though :)

Electrically adjustable front seats

Sunroof

Heated windscreen

Black Leather upholstery

LED package plus

CANTON sound system

Front and rear parking sensors

Rear window wiper

Colour Maxi DOT trip computer

Sun visors with mirror, illuminated

Rear backrest release from boot

Well that's it for my first rambling forum post.

Look forward to getting involved on here.

Sunroof on the estate is better than hatch as its the full panoramic version. I've gone for a 190 se l exec dsg hatch. I've still added the sunroof.

Welcome to the forum Jim.

First off, i will point you to this thread i created not so long back - http://www.briskoda.net/forums/topic/373265-se-business-v-se-l-spec/  - comparing the SE Business to the SE L

For my needs, i felt the SE Business with the 2.0 tdi was the best choice based on the spec, BIK amount and RRP.  (the thread above compares them)

Do you get all your fuel paid for via a fuel card or are you on a max per mile rate ?

Dont get me wrong, the 18's and the Xenons on the SE L look ace, but it depends how much they are worth to you.

You can always get a SE Business with 18's but it will push it up a BIK group.

From your option list, on the basis its a lease car (unless you intend to purchase it at the end of the term) these are the ones i would cross off..

Electrically adjustable front seats - SE Business Electrically adjustable drivers seat

Sunroof - always nice but expensive

Heated windscreen - Not required IMO

Black Leather upholstery - Half leather on SE Business or £166 upgrade

LED package plus

CANTON sound system - Standard system sounds ok - but high mileage driver you may enjoy this

Front and rear parking sensors Standard on SE Business

Rear window wiper - I like the look without

Colour Maxi DOT trip computer  - Yes -

Sun visors with mirror, illuminated Unless you do your makeup in the car

Rear backrest release from boot - takes 2 mins for the rare time you use it.

Thanks

Rick

I just really like the look of the sunroof on the hatch, the black roof front looks cool to me.  Hopefully it doesn't mean more road noise or anything?

Thanks Rick

Work just pay all my business mileage so no worries about mpg etc.  With my Mazda, I find the diesel economy is pants when doing 75mph, it's only really good at 50/60 mph. Anyway, MPG is not an issue for me.  Petrols usually have longer service intervals too which is a win for me.

My thinking on the options is as follows:-

Electrically adjustable front seats - SE Business Electrically adjustable drivers seat - I wonder if its the same on the SE L? I get a bad back and only want the electric seat for the lumbar support, if electric drivers seat is standard on SE L i cant knock this one off the list :)

Sunroof - always nice but expensive - I just like the look of it and can get it on budget

Heated windscreen - Not required IMO - I have lots of early starts and spend 3 months a year scraping the bloody things :)

Black Leather upholstery - Half leather on SE Business or £166 upgrade - Leather is a must for me, I have a 3 year old who likes to decorate the car seats.

LED package plus   have you seen this in actions? I'm curious to see it but cant find any photos or anything?

CANTON sound system - Standard system sounds ok - but high mileage driver you may enjoy this - yep, that was my thinking!

Front and rear parking sensors Standard on SE Business - It says only rear are standard on SE L, seems very weird!

Rear window wiper - I like the look without - I like to be able to clear the back window.

Colour Maxi DOT trip computer  - Yes -

Sun visors with mirror, illuminated Unless you do your makeup in the car - don't we all darling lol??? seriously though, its included in the LED package :)

Rear backrest release from boot - takes 2 mins for the rare time you use it.  I more or less live at B&Q and I can get it in budget so worthwhile for me.

Welcome Jim, my 2p’s worth:

Petrols usually have longer service intervals too which is a win for me. Not with Škoda, either 10K miles on fixed or approx 18 - 20K miles on variable

My thinking on the options is as follows:-

Electrically adjustable front seats - SE Business Electrically adjustable drivers seat - I wonder if its the same on the SE L? I get a bad back and only want the electric seat for the lumbar support, if electric drivers seat is standard on SE L i can’t knock this one off the list :) Can’t disagree there (I suffer with back issues also and will not buy another car without electrically adjustable lumber support

Sunroof - always nice but expensive - I just like the look of it and can get it on budget  I can appreciate why people like them (we have the panoramic roof on the Yeti, but they are not for me

Heated windscreen - Not required IMO - I have lots of early starts and spend 3 months a year scraping the bloody things :) Fully agree, another must for me... for the same reasons as you.

Black Leather upholstery - Half leather on SE Business or £166 upgrade - Leather is a must for me, I have a 3 year old who likes to decorate the car seats.

LED package plus   have you seen this in actions? Im curious to see it but can’t find any photos or anything? Yes without doubt!

CANTON sound system - Standard system sounds ok - but high mileage driver you may enjoy this - yep, that was my thinking! Personally I wouldn’t pay extra for it (but it comes for ‘free’ on my L&K)

Front and rear parking sensors Standard on SE Business - It says only rear are standard on SE L, seems very weird! I would go with park assist... you gain the extra sensor on each wheel arch which can be very handy... plus PA will get into a space far smaller then I would attempt!

Rear window wiper - I like the look without - I like to be able to clear the back window. I prefer the look without and intent to treat the rear window with rainx - the angle of the window is similar to my MKI Superb and I do not have any issues keeping the window clear of rain.

Colour Maxi DOT trip computer  - Yes - Agreed

Sun visors with mirror, illuminated Unless you do your makeup in the car - don't we all darling lol??? seriously though, its included in the LED package :)

Rear backrest release from boot - takes 2 mins for the rare time you use it.  I more or less live at B&Q and I can get it in budget so worthwhile for me. Decided it wasn’t worth it for me.

For me the fact the SE Business does not have Xenons would be enough for me not to buy one.

I've just got a SE L estate but a 190tdi.

I work from my car as well.

First Rep thoughts are:

Reading text messages on the Columbus screen- only some phones work (my company one does) and it stops you doing emails.

Smartlink - Most new Smartphones work (my company one dosent)

Columbus Handsfree- a lot better than a Parrot, speed dial and directory work really well, sound quality is good.

                                  - difficult to end calls when using satnav

Voice commands- Hmmm... 11yr old son impressed his mates on the way to Scouts but not sure which functions are actually useful.

Should the boot open on the key button?, mine dosent which is a pain when your hands are full on a muddy site.

Better cubby holes than an Insignia.

Beige leather interior is a nice light place to spend your day.

Tablet slot won't take our company issue Galaxy tab 10

Seems to strike the right balance between "he's doing ok" and "must be robbing me to afford that"

Bottle holder only takes up to 1.5l bottles.

Did 5hrs through London traffic on the first day and seat far better than Vauxhalls.

Think it would be possible to lock your key in the boot.

Boot opening ? Don't know if this is a hatch thing but my estate boot opens when I press the key button. I don't have to hold the button in. Just press it for a second and it opens with the warning beep.

You can't input a 7 digit postcode? Surely that's a fault with the unit? Please tell me that the unit is supposed to take a full postcode....

Gizmo, I don't suppose you have a picture of the interior LED lighting? I'd love to see what it looks like and cant find anything online.

Also, does the heated windscreen appear totally normal; I had one in a Ford years ago and the windscreen looked slightly odd (i.e. some very feint vertical lines in the glass) - does the glass look 100% normal?

Thanks in advance

The Headlights waking up and looking round routine is very cool........

Were you stood behind the car when you tried this? - it wont work from the front - plus i think you have to be within 3m

Jimihat. Look here at post #6 for a scruffy pic of the interior ambient lighting in my L&K. http://www.briskoda.net/forums/topic/377448-rosso-brunello-lk-est-is-mine/#entry4432531

The middle pic shows the ambient light on blue. Not a very good pic and better ones to follow soon. It is really cool. You have 3 colours, the blue, a green and what they call off white but looks a soft orange to me. You can set the brilliance for when on the move but when you unlock the car or open the doors they go to full brilliance. Door handles are illuminated and roof lights, vanity mirror and footwell lights all LED (I think 'cos they seem very white in colour)The strip is on all 4 door panels and across the dash. My grandson says it makes it look like a spaceship at night :giggle:

Oh and the windscreen is fine from the inside. From the outside and if the light falls in a direction then it has a bronzey look. Doesn't affect the mobile phone either.

Thanks Pete, that gives me a better idea of what it looks like, pretty cool by the looks of things, I'm sure it looks much better in the flesh though.  Hope you're enjoying the car.

Nice guy at Skoda Bournemouth has just explained how to do 7 digit postcodes.

God I feel old

GuzziDibble.  Wanna share the method with all us other dinosaurs?

GuzziDibble.  Wanna share the method with all us other dinosaurs?

Press the  "NAV" button(real button top right)

Touch "New Dest" on the screen bottom left

Touch the word  "City"  or the box next to it

There should be a "Postcd." button bottom left of the screen, touch this, you now enter the postcode with a space in the middle. Having to toggle between numbers and letters is a bit irritating.

Beautiful car, rubbish manual, hope this helps.
