Anyone programmed the N/S rear fog light in?

Featured Replies

As title really, took car for its 10k service today and asked them to programme the passenger side rear fog light... Apparently it can't be done??

I was under the impression it could be?

Who's wrong, me or the dealer....anyone able to confirm?

Thanks,

Steve.

Yes it can be done, I have both working. You need to speak to someone with Ross-tech lead

The dealer probably can't with their software/isn't allowed to. It can be done by someone with VCDS :)

You will struggle to find a dealer who will do this for you (although Im sure it would be simple for them).

I guess VAG doesn't allow them to do it to try to generate new sales.

when i was buying my vRS there was one at the dealer with "nearly" all the options I wanted (except for ACC).

I told the dealer I would take it if they programmed a few options, like cornering fog lights, tiredness warning, lane-assist, street-sign recognition etc etc.

The car had already all the modules needed for these functions & it was only a case of enabling them in the car configuration.

They told me they wouldnt do it, even if I paid the full list price for each option as an extra.

So I ordered a car & they had to wait 5 months for their money....

Yes, done it using the instructions in the VCDS thread.

I've 2 working rear fogs

Yes I meant that...thanks muchly :)

Why don't they both work in the 1st place?

Why don't they both work in the 1st place?

They aren't required to by law. I think UK rules state O/S must work

And I think in some European countries it is permissable for only the O/S fog to work, not both.

Thought it is only legal to have the offside light working for safety reasons?

To clarify  - you CAN have both working, but if only one operational then it must be central (like a Peugeot 206) or offside.

... in the UK.

True!

Not true... It has to be no more to the ns than central. So it has to be central or to the os

Are you saying you can't have a nearside and an offside rear fog light?

Or are you saying a single rear fog light can be central or to the off side of central?

:D  Yes to which question?

Yes to both?

That isn't my interpretation of the road vehicle lighting regulations schedule 11 part I, 12.  Other requirements– Where two rear fog lamps are fitted to a motor vehicle first used on or after 1st April 1986 or to a trailer manufactured on or after 1st October 1985 they shall form a matched pair.

Part II 2.  In the case of a motor vehicle first used on or after 1st April 1980 and any other vehicle manufactured on or after 1st October 1979, not more than two may be fitted and the requirements prescribed by these Regulations in respect of any which are fitted are all those specified in this Schedule.

For a single rear fog light, it has to be on the centre line or off-side of the vehicle according to schedule 11 part I 2b lateral position.

Schedule 11 Part I 3a - Angles of visibility - horizontal - 25° inwards and outwards. However, where two rear fog lamps are fitted it shall suffice if throughout the sector so defined at least one lamp (but not necessarily the same lamp) is visible

A warning for all those who have decided to set their rear fog lights to be brake lights as well, Schedule 11 part 1 10 Electrical Connections - No rear fog lamp shall be fitted to any vehicle so that it can be illuminated by the application of any braking system on the vehicle

Doh! No to the first, Yes to the second.

From my local (and trusted) MOT station:

you can legally have two, with one one each side, or just one, which should be somewhere between the centreline and the offside edge.

So there's nothing that prevents the Octavia having both fogs functioning. Apart from dealers not wanting to do the work.

Strangely the UK MkII Superb hatchback has both rear fogs enabled from the factory. Seems even Skoda can't make up their minds.
