If people were really smart they'd ban big cities. They're the cause of all these problems.

Get in with the Class Action with Slater and Gordon to get your share of the damage done to your vehicles value. costs nothing, win-win.

I am registered with them. I grt the emails and updates off them but all really quiet at mo

Surely you bought a dirty diesel to use for high mileages or to be economical and it must surely be that still.

If you want to trade it in then do that, VW Group Dealers and the Parent Company claim there is no drop in value.

They never were good for being low at depreciating.

Time will tell if you have losses and you have time to raise an action against Skoda if you do.

I was doing higher mileage. Im not now. But it is extremely good on fuel. And it doesnt matter what they offered me against my car I couldn't afford another car

So don't get it updated, at least not yet.

Received my letter from Skoda UK today (2.00CR engine).

Have booked in for the end of August; can always cancel if others' experiences suggest problems.

Stuart

Check out the Superb forum, there are already a few members that have experienced a change in driving dynamics.

I also got my letter today but I've already signed and sent the letter back to Skoda insisting my car is NOT reworked.

The letter basically says they have reduced NOx without affecting reliability, performance or fuel economy. Yeah, right, magic software.

If it's not mandatory, why would anyone have it 'fixed'?.

Don't expect any compensation in Europe or outside the U.S. in fact.

Haven't you taken in any of lol-lol's information about how many people are dying every time a VW diesel crank turns a rev?

In any case, it's the dying days for the old 'fridge'.

I will have a crack at that.

30,000 premature deaths per year due to air pollution in the UK according WHO etc.

15,000 due to air from vehicles. (NOX and PMs).

20% of vehicles are VAG so that is 3,000

Half those vehicles are diesel and half petrol.  Petrols produce about one tenth that NOX and virtual no PMs (1.4 TSIs around 10 micrograms/km)

So 90% of the NOX/PM pollution 3,000 death by VAG diesel cars is 2,700.

So that is 7 people dying prematurely a day in the UK due to VAG diesel pollution that works out.  So about one every 3 hours.

As to per turn of the crank that is more difficult.  Must be a couple of million VAG diesel cars and light vans on the road so pretty small individual figure.   Problem is days like today when it is very hot and NOX is very high and when big cities need to be closely monitoring and eventually introduce restrictions.

Cant argue with your cacls lol lol.

Its the initial figure from WHO of 30,000 pa that is questionable.

Eg: what is a premature death, dying at age 78 instead of 80 is that premature?

very hard to prove and can only be a broad estimate.

Are they city deaths, does driving in the countryside do less harm.

So many questions?

Are they city deaths, does driving in the countryside do less harm.

Everything will change if you or someone from your family will be next in this queue...

Which queue?

I have a feeling the queue full of people dying from vehicle emissions also contains a lot of people dying from smoking, lack of exercise, living close to field of cows etc. etc.

Last week there was something on the TV where the passengers on a city bus were getting more pollution into them than those in a queue at a stop.

But then that is how the UK Government have allowed things to go for decades, and nothing is changing anytime soon.

They thought it was all over .bbc news. Three US states have taken legal action against Volkswagen in the wake of the carmaker's emissions scandal.

New York, Massachusetts and Maryland all filed lawsuits on Tuesday.

New York's Attorney-General called the use of "defeat devices" a "widespread conspiracy" and a "cunningly cynical fraud" committed by all levels of VW management.

Many of the answers to these questions are known.  Yes it is big cities and particularly when the weather is hot and the air relatively still.  Wind direction and topography with these gases and particles pooling in to lower lying areas.

The prematures deaths can be young and old, asmatics and the like with breathing issues.

Several studies come up with this 0.5% percentage of the population and there are even higher percentages for villagers right across poorer countries using fuel with dirtier emissions cooking food in poor housing as well.

VAG need to offer SCR conversion or generous credits to swap for clean SCR diesels or petrols.

Forgiven me Father for I have sinned.

Got a hire car in Ireland and it is a diesel.

Opted for a comfortable car and I think they only do diesels.  Hyundai Tuscan, quite nice, doing about 45 mpg, with diesel still under £1 a litre one can empathise.

I suppose Ireland has the population density to cope with diesels better although Dublin at rush hours is as bad as many big cities.

Ireland has to reduce its CO2 or face fines and the UK too maybe whether it is in or out of the EU or may face penalties.
