Forgiven me Father for I have sinned.

I suppose Ireland has the population density to cope with diesels better although Dublin at rush hours is as bad as many big cities. - and the peat bogs to absorb a lot of the excess CO2

Ireland has to reduce its CO2 or face fines and the UK too maybe whether it is in or out of the EU or may face penalties.

Just come back from Ireland this afternoon and it was all over the radio about this 280 million Euros Ireland is due to pay unless they can hit this 305 or so reduction in CO2.

It does not help when the give you an even bigger hirer car (Tuscan) than you asked for (i35).  40 litres used in 600 kms does not sound too great relatively about 42 mpg with a fair bit of city driving but mostly highway but quite a big car and bit much for one person and no eco option.  I would ahve quite like a Octy or Superb with the 7 speed DSG which would have been much better I reckon on fuel.

No sub 1litre petrol hire cars in Ireland then,no wonder they might be fined.

No sub 1litre petrol hire cars in Ireland then,no wonder they might be fined.

The car hire company has asked for feedback so I will give it to them.

So you ask for a i35 and they give you a Tucsan and then they try and hire you a BMW 5 series on a "special offer".

Nothing in the range such as a eco small or medium car with a good spec ie aircon, in built sat nav etc.

Shame on them, no wonder Ireland struggles with CO2 production.

I reckon the damage is done in Eire more by the old bangers and tractors I've seen over there than the hire car market.

I can't even understand that what the hell you are on about now - 'global warming is making' - complete garbage as usual.

So the next emissions 'scandal' is the latest ultra-efficient petrol direct injection engines. PMs are in the top quartile of all cars and carcinogenic aromatics in the top 10/20%.

Of course all this can be solved with DPFs - too funny to be true!

In reality these 'filthy' cars are actually very clean, just as were the scandal struck VW cars, the 'scandal' is the lying eco-mental groups and politicians exaggerating the issue, whilst our cities enjoy their cleanest air in modern history!

Non EV cars may be a bit cleaner but there a many millions more of them.

We are very close, and have even crossed, the 2012 minimum of Arctic sea ice.   (though us in International Logistics ca look forward to a shorter trans-pole route instead of using Suez).

and the Southern Pole Ozone hole is also of concern...

Anyway back on the subject of the Volkswagen Group and their Emissions Test Cheats and Defeat Devices fitted not only to VW's but Audi,

Skoda, Seat & Porsche Diesels.

The VW Group are reportedly at the stage of yet another agreement on settlements in parts of the United Stated of America.

So that is OK, they pay fines and do buy backs on the Continent where the Government Agency and courts can make them and

the Rest of the World can spin on its axis because they really do not give a fig.

Spend on lawyers and media consultants and all the talk of new technology and just carry on as before, ie slowly.

In other news, today it was confirmed that life causes death.

Government ministers have stated they will look into way to stamp out this killer and will take all measures possible to prevent life affecting the population.

In other news, today it was confirmed that life causes death.

Government ministers have stated they will look into way to stamp out this killer and will take all measures possible to prevent life affecting the population.

As for VW, UK class action lawsuit.

Diesels, without SCR, are the main cause of premature death due to breathing difficulties, everyone will die eventually but we could do without diesel accelerating the process.

As well as cherating the emissions tests, which VW is being fined $15B for in the US for their half million cheat vehicles we are still letting it go on unpunished in Europe due to vested interests and it is clear than VW not only had cheat software to fool the NOX and PMS compliance but have lied about their CO2 levels to for some of their diesels and some of their petrols too which therefore means they are not being taxed properly so the government is not collecting the revenue due so they can invest in measures to reduce city pollution from non SCR diesels for the short term health issues but also climate change caused by CO2 for the long term issues.

Fortunately got rid of all the VW engined diesel I have had in the pass but good luck to all those on board with the Class Action lawsuit to get something like the several thousand pounds per car.

Still no real evidence that other manufacturers were also doing this except Mitsubishi in Japan who have now been taken over by the Nissan-Renault Group anyway to make it go away and it mainly concerned local city cars thankfully.

Anymore on the pollution from those Renault engines in Mercedes or is that just all in someone imagination?

Anymore on the pollution from those Renault engines in Mercedes or is that just all in someone imagination?

I gather many of the diesel engine from just about any manufacture are rubbish when they are outside the optimum temperature range. Renault have been tweaking the 1.5D to perform better in the 0 to 20 C ambient range.

As well as Renault supplying engines for the A and B class the also supply to the Smarts including the new 118 hp 898 cc for the Brabus Smart (or Twingo, same chassis) must have a go.  NOX is 10 ugm/km and petrols do not have the temperature range issues that wiesels do.

Italian test after the emission "FIX" of the VAG laminar flow matrix which has been shown up for the tuppenny "snake water" charade it is.  Class Action to continue with renewed vigour.  Translated by Google.

The Volkswagen group kicked off the cars involved in the recall dieselgate scandal. Too bad, as shown by our sull'Audi Q5 test, to return a car that is no longer Euro 5 but Euro 4. With the removal of the fake software, NOx emissions exceed by 25% the limits prescribed by law. Class action to get back 15% of the car price.

DIESELGATE: THE LABORATORY TESTS

The Volkswagen Group begins to recall the cars involved in dieselgate scandal, but returns a car which, according to our tests, but is no longer Euro 5 Euro 4. After removal of the fraudulent software, in fact, the nitrogen oxide emissions NOx , exceeding by 25% the limits prescribed by law to obtain approval.

Our demands to the Government

As we stated in our press release , we ask the Ministry of Transport and the German KBA (the Federal Transport Authority) to conduct an immediate and thorough review of the technical solution proposed by the German automaker. Waiting to know the outcome of this additional control, our advice is to not bring the car to the workshop as a result of the recall. Also are needed, exemplary sanctions by the Authority for this serious and repeated unfair business practice as practiced by Volkswagen. It must be adequate compensation for European consumers involved as already recognized (5 to $ 10,000 per car) in the United States.  We continue to collect applications to class action.   Let's hear it. Continue collecting statements of support to the class action against Volkswagen, to seek reimbursement of 15% of the purchase price of the cars involved.

Where it all started

In the United States, as measured by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), Volkswagen has misused in its self a software specially installed in the engine control unit to obtain, the type-approval tests, data on emissions in line with the parameters required for vehicles diesel: the result is that in the normal driving on the road instead of the emissions can exceed up to 40 times those stated. Now Volkswagen has admitted that this trick was also used for models sold in Europe and in Italy. What consequences for your car?    Which cars are involved? I have a Volkswagen, how can I tell if my is one of them? We responded to the seven common questions on Volkswagen scandal. The Volkswagen Group, meanwhile, has made available a system to check, simply through the vehicle identification number, if your car is one of those referred to. You can find this data on the registration document, or in the lower part of the windshield. Here's how to control your car, depending on the brand:

25% worse than EU5 compliance is still a remarkable improvement.

Considering the US folks found the cars were (at their worst) about 35 times outside their standard which is 4 times stricter than EU5, I think (45mg/km versus 180mg/km?). By my math(s) that meant equivalent cars were running (at worst) about 9 times the EU5 levels.

800% exceeding standard to 25% exceeding seems like serious progress. :)

Something else worth considering...is measuring one car likely to be statistically useful? I've no idea what the variance might be from one 'identical' car to the next, but I'm confident it won't be nothing.

Do you know who carried out the test and was it to the same specification to which all cars are tested to. Also was the car tested prior to the 'fix' and tested after to compare the emissions?

Life's easy.

I would be very pleased if this little piece of plastic reduced reduced the NOX by tens or percent but the requirement has to be to make it within the 180 ug/km and VAG must do more to reach the level or the cars must be certified as only Eur4 compliant and therefore face restrictions on entering large cities as is planned for London.

Am looking forward to more post NOX fix test so we can get a more comprehensive set of results to look at.

As to people's concern and even refusal to have the fix done I can appreciate that, even though the power and torque figures will be the same that some loss of drivability ie pickup under transient condition is a concern and even on a rolling road that can be difficult to measure and doing 0-100 kph, not usually the diesels strong point, but perhaps the roll-on 50 to 100 kph over take test will be more telling of the real change.

With all the other matters ie dealing with Britain's economic well being, I cannot see VAG emissions being a major issue and whilst Italy or others prosecute VAG we will want them on side for other issues ie BREXIT terms so cannot see us pressing the German government owned VAG too hard.

It's 180 milligrams per kilometer -  (mg/km) = 0.18g/km

Not micrograms, μg, which you seem to be trying to write for some reason lately?

Yes of course.   I had it in my head that NOX limits were about a thousandth of CO2 limits and with the SI Unit of Mass being the kilogram  (you would think it would be the gram as kilo is a multiplier of the gram)

Throughtout this time, the maximum amount of NOx emitted by diesel cars has been way behind that of petrol models. Under the new Euro 6 standards, however, the maximum level for NOx in diesel models is 80mg/km compared to 60mg/km in petrol cars.

Surely you bought a dirty diesel to use for high mileages or to be economical and it must surely be that still.

If you want to trade it in then do that, VW Group Dealers and the Parent Company claim there is no drop in value.

They never were good for being low at depreciating.

Time will tell if you have losses and you have time to raise an action against Skoda if you do.

In the process of changing our Rapid TSI for a Seat Toledo TDI for reasons of economy and although the dealer stated it was not effected it is according to Seats VIN checker, which I expected anyway being of early 2015 production.

Used forecourt values don't appear to have been effected for the time being, on either the Skoda or Seat versions of the 'Rapedo'; your still paying nearly as much for some EU5 TDI's as you are a EU6 depending on age, spec, etc.

Will be in no hurry to have any mods done, as to me the car was designed to run effectively as it is, albeit churning out more pollutants than it should to meet the prevailing regs at time of manufacture.
