Superb 2013 1.6 tdi

Featured Replies

Hello all sorry if this has been covered I was wondering what mpg people are getting from the 1.6 tdi greenline 105bhp. I think mine is rather bad I do alot of city driving and its sitting at 32.9

Town 50mpg Motorway 64mpg see signature for details (not Greenline tho)

I do mixed motorway/town and average high 50's

Mine has 13,500 miles on the clock. Car mostly used for decent runs. No town work. My Maxidot sits at 66mpg over my 2 years of ownership. It's frugality is amazing.

Not 1.6 TDI but 1.9 TDI GreenLine

Same GreenLine editions  105 Hp

how much you getting per tank as these reading .....  say if you fill  about 50 ltr how many miles you drive ? before you need to fill up again "before lights come on" for 1.9 TDI works about 600 Miles

Maths  50/ 600 = 0.083 per mile  x 60 miles = 5 ltr

5 ltr per 60 miles works out    54  mpg    How to get this (4.5 x 60) / 5 (yours reading)  = 54 mpg (miles per gallon as gallon is 4.5 ltr )

The MDF show   > 60 mpg  but real consumption less  My roads 60% motorway + 30-40%  traffic roads

If will be motorways only  non stop driving  60 +  mpg easy with speed max 70 mph more speed more fuel  the best speed 60-65 mph  rev 1800-1900 rpm  this is most economical drive

I havnt done a full tank just yet but I know there is something not right and u don't even no where to start with it

I have a 2013 Superb 2 Greenline 3 Estate. Most of my driving is on A roads and motorways, I average just over a true 60mpg.

Even when I've done quite a lot of town driving I've never seen it as low as the 30's, low to mid 40's but no lower.

Is yours the FL 6 speed or pre FL 5 speed, not that that makes any difference to town driving. Do you carry a lot of weight/passengers, are the tyre pressures correct, and what mpg do you get on longer runs.

How many mile have you done in it? You need to measure full tank to full tank

If just driving around town it may be struggling to regenerate the DPF.  If it can't regenerate passively it will be attempting to do so by injecting extra diesel on the exhaust stroke to pass diesel down the exhaust system into the DPF to assist with the regenerative process

It's pre FL 5 speed I taxi in it so its short journeys here and there sitting at 70mph it says 48mpg

Maybe it just needs a good service, fuel filter, air filter etc. During a service they could do a scan and check for any errors in the system. Does it appear to drive ok, acceleration, pull on hills etc. How about taking it for a decent higher speed drive to see if it clears the system out of any debris.

Hmm,

I get more than that out of my PETROL on a motorway. Something doesn't sound right. As previously mentioned might need a good service (check brakes, DPF etc).

Also don't rely on the maxidot display - they can be pessimistic as well as optimistic (My Superb I 1.9 pd under-read by 4mpg )

Yea just thought it would of put up a warning light if there was something up do they have an ECU that learns the way u drive? Thinking of taking the battery off for ten mins to reset it

Had it up the motorway the other day for 60 mile round trip at 75mph

As everyone has said, it's not correct....

What's my next step even lol

As many have said, get it checked out, preferably at a Skoda dealer or an independent that has VAG expertise. As a first step, a helpful local Briskodian to you with a VCDS can scan for any errors for beer tokens....

And what was the MPG at that speed and the average over the 60 miles?

Nope, and I'm not sure any manual car would do that?

And what was the MPG at that speed and the average over the 60 miles?

Indeed,

Before you get carried away with expensive investigations/repairs - calculate your true MPG - Measure full tank to full tank. There may be nothing wrong. Fill up and take it on a long run and fill up again

Was sitting at 49mpg

Was sitting at 49mpg

For info. I'd expect my fl Greenline 3 to show around 65mpg on that sort of run. My Maxidot tends to reflect real mpg according to my measurements.

Was sitting at 49mpg

OK.I'd get a VCDS check a as I previously suggested. If it's clear, I'd do a brimming fill, zero your trip, travel 100 miles, refill to the brim again and work out your MPG. If it's clearly way below the numbers that others here are getting, then get it checked at your dealer.

Have you had the car from new? What's the mileage? Do you have a full service history?

Cheers for the help again I have only had the car two weeks it has a full service history with 49k on it think I am going to go to my local vag specialist and see what he says he's not a hard man to pay

No problem, good idea and let us know how you get on...

stop

dont panic

after a service, brim it (full) and reset the odometer, if you can wipe all previous data it would help (battery off for a while maybe?)

then refill when needed (600 miles for me)

then calculate the TRUE figure

I do find mine tends to display worse figures this time of year, always seems better in the summer months despite similar trips at similar speeds and road conditions. The 49mpg is heading in the right direction, see how it goes over the next couple of weeks, and as mentioned previously carry out a full brim to brim check, it's the only true way of knowing how accurate the displayed readout is. Some members readouts seem quite accurate, some don't - maybe you have one that isn't accurate. If this is the case you (or someone on here) may be able to recalibrate it using VCDS once you know the error, if there is one.
