Lane assist timer off

Featured Replies

Hi

I Would like to swithc off lane assist timer. I think that it is part of EU regulations that car cant drive itsef and thats why lane assist switch off after 10 sec of driving. I would like to set that timer to one million or something. Is there any way to do that with VDCS or do anybody know where i could buy that kind of programming if it is not possible with VDCS?

The only setting I can see that is relevant is this adaptation channel on the A5 camera

Directional stabilization assist driver inact deactiv threshold

Set to Medium as default

Would have thought if you turned off the timer, had an accident for whatever reason, and they found you'd done such a thing. The insurance and even the police wouldn't be very happy. What if you or whoever was driving actually did fall asleep..... Dosen't bear thinking about

You will only be able to pick between the 3 or 4 settings that VAG have provided, and there won't be much difference between them either

Really do not belive that they would notice that. But anyway i am ready to take the consiquenses if something like that happens. I just would like to set that tímer to "longer" period. Ofcourse I know that anyway its in my authority

I really get your point what you are meaning and thanks for care, but I am thinking in a way that if i fall a sleep now, car will be on forest after 10 sec. if can change that timer, maybe I will be alive also tomorrow...........

Yes, I know, should not count on systems and stay awake but in my mind that could be handy helper if needed

What you are proposing suggests your intention on how you wish to use this function which is totally reprehensible, dangerous with no respect for other road users. Why do you think that multi millions are being spent by companies on developing of cars that are able to drive independently? Current technology just can't do this which is why the 10second cut out is in place. You say you are happy to take the risk, what about other road users?

OK. I am really sorry if my intesions is creating this kind of anger. couple weeks ago i was saved in heavy rain by hitting in a moose. I really did not see so much but car braked to avoid the collision. Maybe that is the reason why I would like to have more about that. guestion is that should we all die to moose or what? And if my car is braking suddenlyfor a moose, would it be better to hit a car than a moose? (meaning if you drive behind me)

Maybe its not needed to say but i coose always hitting a car than moose. moose will go in from windscreen and i would not rather to mess with that if possible.

How does turning on hands free lane assist permanently stop you hitting a moose? If anything, it would make it more likely.

I disagree. It will help on that way that LA will steer away from moose.

But now, with discussing of many others forums, i have noticed that there is really a difference between RHD and LHD. Seems that RHD cars have not same "functions" as LDH car.

But lane assist just keeps you between 2 white lines. It doesn't drive the car for you and avoid obstacles. Unless I'm getting confused with something else?

No it won't...it keeps the car true in a lane and nothing else.

The Front Assist / ACC will help in braking to stop you running into a car or obstacle, but none of the assistant systems would make you physically avoid an object.

Apparently not. I would love to know what this magic is that LDH cars get.

does this work with your car?

remeber that it is not my design and it is not really my fault that you have RHD in UK

There is annother nice feature on highway. (i am talking about Left Hand Drive car)

if car before you is turning on right and you have both on, ACC and LA, car gently brakes, and then steers to right even ower sideline if there is a hole where car fits. it does not stop and wait car before you going away. If there is no room to go around, then ofcourse it stops.

if car before you is turning on right, car will not cross centerline, but again if there is room to go around, it will do that

Edit: car front need to have blinker on, othervice car just brakes

But differences between experiences could also be due to that original programmers are german and they have LHD. Really do not know is RHD same?

So would I...there's plenty of people on here with LHD cars and I've never heard of that before!

No its not the LDH cars that get the magic, its the SKONDAS  :D

Guess we dont get this driving plain old Skodas

So if I understand correctly, if the car in front is indicating to turn to the nearside and brakes slowly, and you have LA and ACC on, your car will cross the centreline if it does not detect a vehicle coming in the opposite direction?

I am genuinely interested to know how a system that is designed to assist you in driving in a straight line will automatically drive the car around a moose.

A moose with indicators :)

Anyway, joking aside, this is something I haven't heard of before so would like to find out more .........

I just think there's something genuinely humorous about the fact a moose has featured in a discussion around a Skoda!

Also very interested to fine out more though...

I just want my lane assist on all the time so I can put the cruise on and have a snooze.

  • 2 weeks later...

It's easy according to some youtube clips I've seen.

What a load of rubbish...all he has to do when the camera disappears for a couple of seconds from his legs, is knock the steering wheel a little bit to make the car think there's some steering input. Stupid clip by a stupid and irresponsible driver

Surely it's the bottle of water that's the trick. The water moving about in the bottle tricks the car into thinking there is some feedback on the steering wheel.
