Does anyone know the correct tyre pressure for the sport running 215/45/17 please ?

 

You should have a special label under fuel cover...

Or see the tire detail..

It's inside the fuel filler cap, the 17inch Rays with low profiles always look flat, especially with the front wheels turned out.

Or try 36psi front / 34psi rear.

No use looking on the fuel flap, it doesn't give figures in PSI.. When I bought my Rapid I asked the salesman & he didn't know & had to ask a mechanic who said, "32 PSI all round."

A lot of forecourt airlines don't have PSI either.

 

This country went metric by stealth years ago.

 

There have been stories on here of Rapids being delivered with around 48 psi in the tyres. (almost exactly 3.2 bar as opposed to 32 psi) -Even the dealers can't get it right on the PDI.

My label has both kPa and PSI , (100kPa = 1 bar)

 

Therefore for 215/40R17  pressure should be 32psi for both front & rear.

Cannot think the label on ours also states load and speed rating, will have to double check in the morning.

If I am not mistaken cars with diesel engines need different (higher) tyre pressure than those with petrol engines...

220 bar or 32 psi, simple.

I will be going for something a bit higher i reckon... maybe like 38 psi all around to start with. running 17's

I don't think you can pump air into tyre... up to that pressure... :p

read the label - it's 220kPa = 2.2bar

Is this a good time to point out that my pen gauge is calibrated in PSI and kPa?

Kilo pascals - I.e. Thousands of pascals. 1 kPa is equal to 1 bar.

Pascals and Bars are just different words for the same system of pressure measurement.

 

The weather man reports millibars (like on a barometer) or hecto-pascals  - both are 1000th of a Bar.

 

Standard atmospheric pressure is 1013.2 millibars ( so just over 1 bar)

 

A kilo-pascal is 100th of a Bar.

 

 

You can measure pressure in:

 

psi -                                  about 15 to the bar

inches of Mercury(Hb)            29.92 to the bar

or millimeters of Hb         about 760 to the bar.

 

or to make it easier - you can preset the machine at the garage and wait till it goes ping
