Connect smartphone to aux input

Featured Replies

I have a 11 plate Octavia VRS fitted with a Bolero radio. I would like to play subscription music on my Samsung Galaxy 2 phone through the car radio. The aux input situated under the armrest looks like it might accept a headphone signal but I can't find a reference for this. I can't understand the manual. Can I connect the headphone output of the phone to the aux input without blowing up either the phone or the radio? If I can't do this, how can I connect the phone to the radio?

Thanks in advance,

Mike

Pretty sure that is what I did just had a short lead from my phone on the headphone socket and plugged into the input then select aux on the head unit.

Yes you can connect to the aux but it will just be a 'dumb' input.

Ah, dumb input! I have just bought a 2011 Superb with the bolero radio. I too have he Aux input under the arm rest and the touch screen displays the aux button as greyed out. I have read that under settings on the unit you have to tick to enable aux but I don't have this as an option. It has been driving me mad. Does anyone know if I can make the aux 'live'?

Thanks all

Don't know if this helps...but...

I had a dance unit in my vrs and tried everything to get it to work, I even checked the wiring in the armrest...

Then I changed my dance unit for a DNS 810, and hey presto...my aux input worked with no problems !

So I would be looking at a head unit problem instead of wiring problem...

Ok, thanks. I've also seen some suggestions that the aux may need enabling using vcds (I think) or is it Vag?

Anyone aware of this?

My Bolero did have the option to tick as remember being caught out by it, & thinking what a silly option. Maybe your unit has very early software?

The headphone output will work fine, and not cause any damage to either device. There is an impedance mismatch, so you will have to play with the volume setting on the phone to provide as high a signal level without distortion over loading the Bolero aux/line input.

The impedance of a headphone output is low whereas the Bolero input impedance is high. Don't worry about that though its a common interface mismatch!

My problem is now solved having found a friend with vag com. It was a tick box in the software that reads as though it should be unticked but actually needs to be ticked. Ticking it gave the option in setup in the bolero unit that allowed me to activate the aux. I'm very happy.

However. When I bought the car there was an after market Nokia Bluetooth car kit to link mobile phones to. It presents as dead. Does anyone know if this would be connected to the bolero unit and if so if this too needs a box ticked in the software?

Many thanks all. This is such a useful site.
