New Golf R - Part 2

Featured Replies

This is a continuation of the original 'New Golf R' thread.

I'm starting it so we don't have any of the potential '100 page' problems as we did with the VW emissions thread. After all, this thread is far more exciting than that thread! :notme:

  • Well picked up my new car today... a Leon Cupra Initial verdict.... F**K its quick!! (of course it would be after a Citigo)

  • My R arrived on Friday along with my Dad's GTI!  Didn't even know there was a part two to this thread so have missed 9 pages!

  • I do sometimes think that copying and pasting (without editing) makes it awfully hard for people to instantly see what's trying to be said! Any chance of some pruning the next time please Keith?

Q?.

Forgive me for asking, why is / was there a VW Golf R thread running on a Skoda forum?

(Our interest, SWMBO want'sto replace her Octy vRS with an R Estate but I think we can't afford it, it's just too expensive for a small car.............)

Briskoda is obviously and primarily a Skoda forum but people have thoughts about moving on to other marques and, likewise come from other marques too.

The world is a big place and we like to cater for everyone!

Some of us started out on here when I had my Octavia vRS and as its the best forum IMO on the internet, so we stayed but not all still have Skoda's. I have an R but swmbo has a Citigo so I'm kinda OK ;)

... its the best forum IMO

It's better than most, but that is a bold claim, and IMHO inaccurate can think of at least 2 others I would rate above.

^^^ OT already in the Part 2 Thread, but please care and share which 2 these are.

Cheers.

Has anyone fitted different wheels to their R's, other than the 19" Pretoria's?

If so what have you fitted?

Pictures would be nice too.

Been tempted to get others but the standard Cadiz wheels are so easy to wash and keep clean looking.

'General Car Chat' wouldn't be much of a general car chat if were only allowed to talk about Skodas.

:wall: what a load of tosh, general car chat is for cars in general. If it was about a Skoda model then you put it in the model forum.

Ever thought about any nice Team Dynamics Pro race wheels???

Pro Race 1.2, 1.3, & 3 all fit apparently............

http://www.team-dynamics.com/page.php?identity=fitment-guide

I have had the 3 on my old Fabia & have a set each of the 1.2 (summers) & 3 (winters) for my estate.

British made, used in the BTCC (1.2), used by many specialist car makes, oh & mine in the same size as the OEM 17" alloys are 2 to 2.5kg lighter per alloy, very easy to clean & strong......

P.S please note that the VWRacing (UK) alloys are re-branded 1.2s by TD for VWRacing.......just they take the OEM round bolts & do not have Team Dynamics moulded in.

PPS, can't find any pics of the TD PR 3 (five spoke) on the R

I think you have the wrong end of the stick here - this was a reply referring to which forums the OP thought were better than Briskoda. I can't comment on vx220 but PistonHeads seems okay to me.

OK, makes sense, but it still seems a little weird though.

Is there a quality VW forum out there that's as good as Briskoda?.

The only EOS group / forum seems to be N. America based & not very up-to-date.

Which model car do you have this week, whilst the R is at the dealers? :D.

I might set you a thread up specifically for that :D (:

ATM its as good as its going to be.

The rattle is 98% cured so given up now. There is only few rumble bits of road it rattles on but no where near what it was, I just avoid cattle grids and really rough road surfaces ;)

17000 miles on ,never missed a beat .Motor ,after a proper 3000 miles running-in, continues to improve in smoothness and delivery in all modes .

No thumps, bumps or rattles in this one!

Happy and enjoyable days continue, hopefully like the new version of the R thread.

Looking forward to the upcoming Mk8 Golf announced thread & a release date, then offers and run out Mk7 models.

Maybe some fantastic deals on Golf GTD's in 2016.

Facelifts to come first before a Mk8 & a few years before a Mk8 Golf R.

http://carwow.co.uk/news/Volkswagen-Golf-Mk8-2017-price-specs-and-release-date-2367

*This article has no real true facts on upcoming engines or gearbox eg 10 speed DSG,

but it looks like in 2016 there will be Diesel Golfs running around the Official VW Bodges of Zip Ties on Pipe Work and Bits of Plastic pipe & grill stuck in Air intakes and official Remaps done in 20 minutes by VW Technicians. These will not be Mk8 Mules being tested, just Euro 5 TDI's.*

no word on a single per side instead of the double per side ............... :wall:........like this test mule

Probably not what your after but I fitted a set of 17" VW Dijon wheels complete with Nokian WRD4's. The Nokian's have been fantastic, even in the mild weather.

I'll be keeping the standard Cadiz for the summer and fitting the new Conti SC6 when they release them in my size.

Ignore the mess in the background, waiting to do a tip run when I can be motivated

So the standard alloys which came with my car & I sold (because they are heavy & poor build) fit the R!

Well then get better build & lighter weight & fit these..............Team Dynamics Pro Race 3, .......2kg lighter each wheel than those VW Dijon's..........
