  • Well picked up my new car today... a Leon Cupra Initial verdict.... F**K its quick!! (of course it would be after a Citigo)

  • My R arrived on Friday along with my Dad's GTI!  Didn't even know there was a part two to this thread so have missed 9 pages!

  • I do sometimes think that copying and pasting (without editing) makes it awfully hard for people to instantly see what's trying to be said! Any chance of some pruning the next time please Keith?

Nothing wrong with a proper value analysis. Just remember to buy a baseball cap :)

Although it may be the real reason you bought an R estate...

Should of said. I've heard the Yeti is the best car for such things... :D

Well I always say, "if you've got it, flaunt it" ;)

Well that's lowered the tone

Standard system in the R sounds pretty reasonable to me and the upgrading package is bloody good quality for the money.

Oh! My B&O home sound system, which I've had for 15 years , is total pleasure to listen to and look at.

However,I'm probably a deaf old fart!

I didn't list golf as I know upgrade system is gd. The others miss quality of the B&O or dyna

Just dont expect good quality stuff in any OEM upgrade system.

B&O home stuff is lightyears ahead of the car stuff that manufactures pay peanuts for, so get a crap product.

B&O light on bass...

err or course it is, that's their "sound", always been like that! I was brought up on B&O, parents still have a mid 80's set up still works & looks space age compared to modern stuff & my fancy Denon looks like a black brick by comparison. However my Denon with the Monitor Audio speakers (similar size to the B&O's punch's deeper & clearer, but it is 30yrs newer.

Even branded car stuff is done to a cost budget & unless £K will never be the best, a good compromise & better than the basic spec. If you want best in a car you need proper time alignment (real time compensating for road noise also) & more sound proofing/deadening, not just amp/pre out, better speakers & sub.

Back OT.

The estate (even in R form) the rear seats the base is fixed & the back folds flat...ISH, I noticed that the headrests when pushed down rest on the seat base which lifts the back rest UP so not flat. either pull the headrests off completely or extend them, so when the back rest is down the headrests do not rest on the base, but in front of it. You will see what I mean if you open the rear doors & look from the side.

This gives you a nice big flat load bay which is long enough to sleep on, or what ever on, & with the tinted rear privacy glass & the firmer sports suspension, you can do other sports in the safe knowledge that it is all under firm control.... :p

Oh have no doubt about that. Just looking for decent sounds that many standard systems fail to deliver

Best to get it done yourself, to be honest :D.

Yeah very true :)

Been out and about in the R today, avoiding all the flooding and bits of tree branches that have come down. My dammed rear rattle is back in full volume..... :(

I thought it was there the other day but very muted now it is as audible as before. Phone call to the dealer on Monday, so cheesed off with this rattle, not good for any hyper sensitive people.

Ben

Can you record it with your phone or the onboard video cam ,so we can get a better understanding of it's magnitude and the dynamics that generate it? Hope that makes sense.

Do you think the mechanics had identified the correct source to begin with?

TBH no I'm still convinced it's suspension but the noise has been there albeit it was a lot less almost gone completely but last weekend it popped its head on some rumble bits of tarmac. Today it was back as it was before they replaced the fuel tank :(

Hopefully it will attach as a wav file this was VW's recording using specialist equipment.

Won't attach :( any idea how to attach a wav file?

Could you stick it on You Tube?

Just been trying but not very clever at this :(

I can email it :)

Do you have a you Tube account? It all seems to work a little easier if you are an Android person and have the usual Google email addy etc.

ps how big is the file?

Got you tube account but it wants me to convert it like I had to do with my movies but on a tablet too much like hard work to fire up the laptop.

Looks like its 9.12mb

you could stick it in a Dropbox public folder and give us a link

is it a weird file format? Flickr might host it for free?

I could stick it on my flickr account, but if the file is nearly 10 mb and you email it, it will show as being bigger than 10mb and so get denied by my isp I think :(

It try chucking it up onto Photo bucket as that is quite forgiving of file formats.

If you had to describe the sound how would you? Is it a solid rattle, hollow rattle etc etc.

If you can get the file up that would help. Unfortunately I suspect a VW dealership would struggle to properly diagnose an unusual rattle, as unfortunately most dealership mechanics are not broadly enough experienced for issues like this. Experience would tell me to take it to a backstreet taxi mechanic (you driving of course) and ask them to diagnose... as they will have seen/heard it all

Also does it get better or worse as the car gets warm / do outside temperature effect it?

If a new fuel tank temporarily fixed it.. Does it get better or worse with a full tank? Or empty? Or no difference?

Email VW UK Customer services outlining actions by dealership etc, to date and outcomes. Copy to your dealership service manager. Did the dealership mechanic take any dynamic recordings or was it just by ear?

Ben, have you got a case no. issued yet via dealer and or VW UK?

VW to then progress via one of their Master Technicians with the dealership Engineer.

Good luck and hope you get it sorted soon, as it's obviously frustrating the pants off you.

Any mention of similar cases on R Owners sites or Golf in general.

Yesterday it got worse as the car was driven around but no difference on fuel level, its always there seems to get more noticeable as the day wears on.

Keith this is fairly well documented as a fault on the MK7, always on multi link suspension cars with no DCC, mine is a base model with no DCC.

I moaned as they claimed it was fixed and it was my doors creaking which was the noise, this was something else, which they eventually sorted after soaking everything in silicone spray!

They did replace the shocks after they had the car the second time and said it was fixed, I drove 100 yrds from the dealership and took it back as it blatantly wasn't.

They then kept it for a week and was told they had used sophisticated listening equipment and sent me a recording to confirm if the noise they had identified was what they had recorded, which it was and also sounds the same as this chaps findings:

http://www.vwgolfmk7problems.uk

There is a link in his page to his recording, mine sounds worse as VW had the microphone close to what they said was the issue. They said it was a valve in my fuel tank rattling.

I do not want to go through that again as they managed to soak the rear passenger foot well behind my drivers seat in Tesco momentum, which is not a nice smell and I scrubbed my carpets to get rid of the nauseous smell.
