Thank you very much tmb .. There are great people on this site

And here is an example of the correct tooling required to change a front wheel bearing.

That is a Sealey kit but a few people make them now.

I've just ordered one from the bay ;)

Should this fit on a 2000 Fabia without ABS, only powersteering ? I've tried to search for this part number and it looks like it fits only for 2011 and later models though. I've found a different one, which is 6Q0407621BR, but after a bit of research, it seems that it fits models with ABS, but mine doesn't have.

The one on the car lasted less than 5 months / 6300miles, it has been replaced on September 1st 2015. Could it be a human error when it was fitted so it started humming so soon ? IIRC, it started to get grumpy right after the temps dropped to -15 Celsius along with the salt or any whatever they are using to de-ice the roads like in no time, in about 3 days and ~100-150miles. Maybe it has been noisy for longer than that and only now I noticed it and/or it got worse, but it's noisy as hell ATM and I really don't want to end up in the middle of a junction with a welded wheel bearing. It might have been only a coincidence or could it really have been a sealing issue let's say ?

Lated edit: who's the manufacturer of the OEM bearings ? Is it Vaico V10-8259 ?

If the bearings are installed with a press then they normally won't last long.

My mechanic replaced the hub which came with the bearing as well, so no press was required IMHO.

You still need to get the bearing into the carrier. All the bearings come with a hub.

I see. That makes sense! How does that tool work ? Is it something like this ?

Yep, that's it.

Cool! I've ordered a FAG one. The seller told me it the ex bearing was a low quality one and this is why it lasted less than expected.

Aplogies to open up an old thread but I'm in need of a front bearing but can't find the definitive answer as to which is the correct part number! Is it 6q0407621br, 6R0407621A or 6R0407621E? I did try to order this (link below) but was told it owuld not fit!

My car is Fabia VRS SE by the way.

Thanks in advance.

They're all the same part number.

The letter at the end generally denotes a change in supplier or a minor revision rather than a different part, as a rule of thumb the higher the letter the more likely it is to fit any model since all parts must be backwards compatible if they have the same part number.

Front bearings require a special tool, rears don't.

what is the tool needed for?

If you scroll up a few posts you'll see a video that probably explains it. What a lot of people don't realise is that you musn't use a press on the hub part (that the disc/wheel bolts to) as that is the inner of the bearing. Trying to locate the outer of the bearing into the bearing carrier by pushing on this will damage the bearing, hence the tool which gets in behind the hub. The half-moon parts of the special tool press on the lip shown by the arrow in the photo below.

Rear wheel bearings don't need this, which are you actually aiming to change?  Confused, because the thread you've posted in is front wheel bearings, but the link to the ebay auction is for rear?
