So did ricciardo actually get third then im confused?

I think Vettel has been given a 10seconds penalty, Verstappen had a. 5 second penalty, but I don't know how far behind Ricciardo was. BBC were still showing Vettel 3rd this morning.

Edit: BBC now showing Ricciardo 3rd.

I just like the fact that after all their bleating last year about the rubbish Renault engine, they now have to eat a nice slice of humble pie. Even if the engine isn't quite the best on the grid, it

I feel sorry for Ricky Bobby as he didn't get his moment on the podium. I think he has now got 3rd in the championship guaranteed. Maybe they could present him at the next GP? Then if he also won a podium position for say 2nd, he could become the quiz question. " which F1 driver received a 2nd and 3rd place trophy at the same GP race".

Vettel was given 5th place.  Max 4th.

Yes, where is the Fist pump emoji

I think Vettel should get a grid penalty at the next race for using bad language on the radio.

All Max had to do was let Vettel regain his distance - plenty of places that would be safe to do - and broadcast the fact. Job's a good 'un.

Anyone else think red bull vs Ferrari is descending into all out war? Quite a few times their respective drivers have clashed on track now this year. Makes for entertaining viewing :D. I couldnt take Vettels finger wagging seriously though

Max is deluded. He suggested Nico deserved a penalty for going off at turn one - which was actually the result of being pushed off by a RedBull that braked too late - his RedBull!

I don't think Vettel deserved a penalty either. certainly not compared with Max' moves over the last 2 seasons

Senna would have sorted the Max problem - behind the bikesheds ;)

I seem to remember him punching another stroppy newcomer at Suzuka '93 in the Jordan motorhome...

It's ironic that now they are enforcing moving in the braking zone, one of the chief advocates in getting it enforced is the first to be penalised for it. If Nico wants to win this title he needs to stay away from Max, twice he was nearly wiped out by a sideways Red Bull.

It's looking a lot like Ross Brawn will replace Bernie when the time comes, at least according to Auto Bild. Surely that's got to be a good thing :)

If Vettel's braking zone move was against the rules, Max should have been penalised in all of the last 20 odd races. The arrogant little spoiled brat is still the most likely cause of a major accident in the whole of F1.

The one at spa on Kimi springs to mind. Although not in the braking zone, the late jink at 200mph would have been an air plane crash

I'm just happy Max is trying things and is exciting. He is only 19 so is learning and like most teenagers will push limits until someone says it's not OK. I have no issue with how he's driving and don't get the constant bashing. People say F1 is getting boring (actually only two people winning WRC titles in 13 years is boring) but the second someone like Max cones in who is fresh and wants to push, people are calling for the FIA to stamp all over it. No different to other drivers over the years. Grosjean was really agressive in his early years and got a race ban for Spa. So did Hakkinen for being a bit like Maldonado in his first few years but now is seen as a legend of the sport and a worthy two time champion

Could it be that some of the established drivers aren't keen on him because he will be a genuine title contender in a few years?

Hoping the Brawn rumour is true. There's a lot worse we could have and at least it's someone who understands the cars, how they work and the F1 system. There's a few due to go soon, Herbie Blash I think is going this year and Charlie can't have long left.

If it wasn't for Bernie (and his ex-Brabham guys Herbie, Charlie) F1 would still be a little-seen minority sport, as opposed to the global media event that is has become.

Despite the incredible amount of money he made, Bernie created F1 as we have seen it since the early 70's and I thank him for that.

Grosjean missed more than one race. He was demoted to GP2 and had to fight to get back to F1.

I agree. Bernie has done an astonishing amount for F1 and made it the global sport it is today, but perhaps it's time his tenure came to an end. Ross Brawn has always struck me as an honest, intelligent man, who is also made of hard stuff. Like Bernie, but bigger, more honest and with scruples :)

Brawn has denied the rumors himself

Brawn has denied the rumors himself

That's a big shame. Still, there is still time :)

Reading a few internetty things, it looks like the idea is not out of the question though :) Liberty media is using him currently

That's where the rumour has developed from because Liberty are using him already and could well morph into a more permanent role as his Technical support increases. It's no lie that the whole F1 technical team has increased over the last number of years and Charlie W plus another are due to retirement very soon. They need someone with the technical nounce to be able to level with the teams.

Lance Stroll, the next big thing or lucky boy with an uber-rich dad?

Different years so hard to compare the two really, but in Euro F3:

Stroll Champion with 507points from 30 races.

Verstappen 3rd with 411points from 33 races.

Hard to tell though in F3, for instance Paul Di Resta beat team-mate Sebastian Vettel to the Euro title in 2006.

Williams like their drivers to bring some cash with them, but at the same time he must have some ability to drive an F1 car.
  • Author

He's done more than bring some sponsorship, he's a part-owner of the team, just like a previous Williams driver's husband was.

Mind you, I think Williams last pay-driver was actually Maldonado, so they probably lost money on that...with all the repair bills and such.

Is it just me or does "Lance Stroll" sound like a character from the old "Skid Solo" cartoons?

More seriously, Lewis Hamilton has apparently said something that I agree with! "The last thing we need is even more downforce."
