VR54 DAM as VR5 4DAM

Legal or what?

All being correctly spaced and font.

Been looking for about 40 mins and can't find a specific answer, only for the following...

Personal plates to be relaxed so it's legal in 2012 (not seen a definitive update/answer)

Spaces and grouping (surely void on personal plate cause office/date wouldn't be correct)

No 3 groups such as IT5 4 TWT instead of IT54 TWT

Blah blah hopefully you understand, bare in mind it's a personalised plates so the office/location origin numbers would be void! Example NV07 is a Northern 2007 vehicle but VR54 is a personalised plate and doesn't relate to any location or date of origin for the car.

That would be spaced incorrectly so in theory, illegal.

It would be illegal, but in practice if everything else is correct about the plates and you are driving sensibly then you are unlikely to get pulled over and spoken to about it. If you drive like a knob and attract attention then expect the police to have a word.

My number plate would also look a bit better with it respaced to end 4LEX, but I've never bothered and plenty of people still notice it.

What makes you think splitting the 5 and 4 is legal?

As I said, a personal plate makes the 'origin' void so VR54 is irrelevant where as a standard plate it would be needed to stay together because it would mean it was issued in wherever the V area is and dated 2004.

E/ but thanks guys for confirming it was abolished, might go for a -666 --- plate instead

As it would not comply with BS AU 145d, that would bring into question the MOT as the plates are part of the test - so either the MOT tester had ignored the law, or the plate had changed after the test. There is currently a Sprinter local to myself with the plate T5 DUNC, which has obviously had the zero re-cut to represent a D - not sure what the outcome of any insurance claim against this vehicle would be!

Someone has said above, that new regulation was abolished before it came in.

So this is the wording from the DVLA;

'It is an offence to alter, rearrange or misrepresent the

numbers and letters on a number plate to form names

or words, or in a way that makes it difficult to read the

registration number. For example, you should not use fixing

bolts to change any of the letters or numbers. Anyone

with a number plate that does not display the registration

number correctly could be fined up to £1000.'

Surprised they haven't had him with ANPR cameras.

As all registrations they can't read are logged.

They can catch and bill fine 20 speeders in the time it takes to speak to him about his plate. Far more worth while :)

ANPR don't do speeding do they?

Pretty sure they check vehicle legal issues and registered keepers details/warrants etc.

Plenty of traffic cars fitted with them too, they wouldn't leave it if passing by I'm sure.

They also fine people who get lost, don't read signs properly and go down bus/taxi only streets in Nottingham [emoji35]

Also no such thing as a personal plate. Vr54 is still a bog standard configuration for wherever area. You can take ANY no plate (as long as you own it) and put it on any car as long as it doesn't appear to make the car newer than it is.

I have T25 vrs which again is just an old "T" reg plate that happens to have vrs as it's area code (Vr part anyway).

Any messing with spacing could net you a fine or the plate confiscated. .

I see it all the time, so I doubt anyone would care, given that most people routinely break speed limits and accept the consequences if caught and considering that the consequences for adding a space in your number plate and getting caught are far less severe then I'd do it if I cared about such things. Which I don't.

Is it really worth the hassle though?

Seen a few people get pulled over on police interceptors or similar programes. They once even pulled over Jordan in her Range Rover as the plate was spaced incorrectly (and showing as no insurance).

If an ANPR camera can't read the plate I think it pings up with a warning and they will probably pull you over and fine you... just not worth the hassle.

Phil

Just having a misplaced space won't stop an ANPR reading the plate, and I don't believe it will flag a warning just for that either.

Oh yeah they do that in brum too! :D

My daughter went down a bus only road there :(

If you mis-space a plate you could have it taken off you as it's not your plate.

Fair play for asking first you certainly aren't in the same book I'd put most people I see with reorganised plates, as at least you are the sort of person thats sensible enough to ask about it first.

You could argue its unfair that I do this, but I just can't help but find people showing plates like that makes them total bell-ends in my book?

To be fair more likely on show offs driving BMWs, coupled with very dark windows ( probably also illegal) etc etc. and illegal fonts too. Fluffy dice also just maybe? and possible wheel spinners ;)

Those people value above the basic requrements of the law, how they are perceived by others. i.e. being flash is more important than the basics of motoring to them.

Also it concerns me that in the case of an accident (namely them, hitting others, possible a ped) it could help obfuscate their plate so they don't get caught.

So I'd be happy if they get the book thrown at them IMO as I've been the victim of a hit and run before and anyone looking to mislead or evade gets everything they deserve.

I get what you mean when it comes to personal plates making the driver be judged as a bell end, but here how I see it.

If I could have had VR5 4DAM it looks awesome, my SE would be even more noticeable around my town etc and even if people think oh what a **** he's got a private plate, most of them will say that with jealousy and if they could get one with their name on they probably would.

I think when the arrogant douchebag private plate owner comes in, is when it's like 'E 9' on a range rover which the plate alone probably costs over 10 grand, which if you had 10 grand spare to put on a plate when there's much better things you could do with it, if not give to charity and help other people out.

This plate is a £250 bottom end one though, If I could get ADAM in a plate I may be willing to pay up to £500 being as I can have it on all my cars for life but yeah, when it gets to over a couple of thousand I don't know how you can spare that on a reg plate.

e/ Everyone has took ones ending XXX4 DAM anyway so it seems, probably going for a 666 one, again £250 but I'll get it with my new car in october.

I just think, look at a car and the number plate is a big part of the aesthetics.

For example what I plan in october is a 120d (bmw how ironic lol) then imagine the plate on it being these:

NV10 AGB   or    A666 NEW  (my name)

or whatever else, I'll play about see what ones I can find.

Surely it's much cheaper to change your actual birth name by deed pole to whatever registration number you desire.....

Think it's about 100 quid these days, then your options are limitless ;-)

Or just change your name to match what's already on the car.

Job done!
