misfire today 😞 scanner says cylinder three , to be fair its only dropped one coil pack so far .... I was going to put new plugs in for the europe trip in sept, so may as well do that now...

IMG_4407.JPEG

old plugs look ok, seeing as they have been in 20k, and they are standard plugs running much more power and heat...

Right, booked in next thursday for an oil change, and oil pick up pipe change.... then ready (with a box of spares and brakedown/car replacement!) to go accross Europe for a few thousand miles next month! 😮 gonna regas the aircon before then too....

Right, oil change done, new oil pick up pipe installed, last one was in for 50k... it really wasn't bad, just one small piece of debris in it! Mech did say the sump was full of carbon deposits though, so he cleaned the sump up to fresh new looking aluminium.... just in case some deposits came off and headed for the pick up pipe! just goes to show what extra maintenance is needed as you approach 200k! lol.... happy its prepared to head out on its 3,000 mile plus journey across Europe next week! 😮 Am I mad attempting this journey in an 18 year old vRS with nearly 200k on ? lol.... The breakdown companies seem to think so lol..... most wont cover over 10 years old, the rest wont cover over 15 years old! so got my work cut out.... the AA and the RAC will (at a cost!!) and one other I've never heard of.... funny, when it reaches 20 years old, I should be able to get classic insurance for it, then it will be easy!!  Anyway.... shot of the current mileage, hope to see that 200k soon! 😮

well, the road trip didn't go to plan.... car broke down half way to the south of France... I must say AA brakdown cover were BRILLIANT , worth every penny, i highly recommend them, put us up, towed the car, hired us a car we could continue our road trip in, and even drive back to the UK.... luckily my car got fixed before I had to return, shame I had to do the awesome alps roads in a ****e pergeot 2008 😞

we were towed off the private french motorway by the police, and taken to a "garage" who had no time to look at the car ..... it sat for a while in a car graveyard, where things that broke down on the french motorway came to die, never to be recovered by the owners...

She Rides!!!....... it was the crank sensor... replaced and fixed... french mechs knew their stuff.... sorted it for a reasonable price.... the car lives... and don't buy a pergeot 2008 , they are horrible... if someone offered me a choice between a £25k 2008 and my old octy, I'd have the octy ...

And even after all the trials and tribulations on the road trip, he passed his MOT with no work required, and no advisories! 😮 Next road trip i'm hiring a modern car , after driving Petes golf R down an Alps road, maybe one of them!

Mine made it from Manchester to Paris, Cannes , Monaco and then all the way back in one journey.

I took out the AA cover but it only covered for up to £500 in parts and up to the value of the car to tow it home if required.

The car performed brilliantly for the entire trip (aside a dodgy temp sender switch) but I must admit I was bricking it constantly and wished I'd gone in my then brand new company car instead!

If it had broke in Cannes  / Paris I knew I'd probably be kissing it goodbye and catching a flight back as there's no way the repair cover would have covered a tow all the way home.

had a few issues recently... over the last year or so, the car has been getting louder and louder... Its been a very gradual thing, I assumed the boxes on the exhaust were degrading... seems this wasn't the case... on our way to pick up the Audi, it "cracked" and started making HORRIBLE noises.... I recognised it as exhaust off near the manifold, was hoping and praying it wasn't a split manifold or broken turbo housing, as big money (and an upgrade I suppose!) would have been on the cards! turns out the downpipe had cracked.. right at the weld between the turbo and the vertical part.... my custom 3" system is one of the best mods the car has had... mech REALLY struggled to get it off the turbo, but did in the end, and "repaired" it (swears it will never break again! lol) car is relatively quiet again now! £130..... they had it all day, could have been worse !

car is running perfect now... had a good blast in it on friday , had to take the back roads home, pushed it hard, handles awesomely, goes well, stops well... better than anything modern, even our new and very fast audi, doesn't even come close for steering feel :)

when manoeuvring, for example getting out of my driveway, the right wheel "crunches" as if its crushing stones or something, and it actually moves! I can feel it through the wheel.... had it into the garage and they have checked everything, ball joints top mounts suspension wheel bearing etc etc, and all is perfect, so it has to be the rack... he said it didn't feel right when moving the wheels by hand on the lift either...

mine was from a scrapper, no history on it.... not gonna take the chance that another will fail with unknown history, £150 for a "new" one isn't that much more for piece of mind....

yeah, its an audi TT mk1 rack... they are all "quick racks" if they come from the audi seat cupra or R32... I'd never go backwards! lol.... always "upgrade" ;)

ok, car is fixed, new driveshaft in, oddly the guy says the rack is putting the shafts under massive pressure on full lock.... anyone else running the TT rack on their cars?
