vRS SE - Hesitation/Stutter - not when engine is cold?

Hello!

 

New Fabia vRS owner (BLT engine).

 

I have read a lot about a hesitation/stutter under heavy acceleration being related to a gasket on the EGR. I have removed and cleaned both the EGR and the throttle body, but this has not cured the problem.

 

I have no idea how to check the gasket and unfortunately the fix it yourself guide that most posts seem to link to no longer seems to work... :S

 

I have noticed that I do not get the stutter when the engine is cold.

 

Can anyone advise if this definitely sounds like the EGR gasket issue, or might it be something else?

 

Oddly enough, I called my local Skoda garage who didn't seem to have ever heard of the problem (which I found strange as it seems to be so well documented!!).

 

Any advise greatly appreciated.

Isn't that because the EGR only comes into play once the engine is warm so when the car is cold it's bypassed and there is no stutter?

The flutter was only found at less than / up to 2k revs, and quite obvious as its far less smooth than rest of the range. If its not there then its not the same problem, simples.

 

9mm egr gasket is the fix. simples.

I seem to get the stutter at 2k revs and above. Sometimes it feels quite aggressive - almost like a misfire?

Maybe its still the gasket, but who knows. Doesnt really sound like to me.

Very easy to rule out the EGR thing.

When I did mine ( myself) I did it just underneath the air intake area, might have had to remove a few bits to do it, can't quite recall ( it was on the now defunct fabia-vrs site).

Easily removed and then measure size of gasket to check and rule it out or not.

I had the stutter on my BLT vrs. I ordered the gasket and was all set to fit it but I found a thread on the seat forum relating to turning the EGR valve pretty much off via VCDS. I followed the setting/value and the car no longer has the stutter. In my car it was very noticeable to the point it felt like it was misfiring

AIUI, the BLT stutter occurrs when running on light/lighter throttle, then re-applying more throttle. something of a pain when one of the more attractive aspects of the drive is the strength of the drivetrain is providing torque enough to avoid declutching or feathering constantly.

 

9mm Gasket drilled to 11mm or so will greatly reduce the effect without a CEL. 9mm gasket without mods results in occasional CEL.

Remap with EGR reduction will reduce the effect.

Remap plus remove the EGR system is the most "positive" result. However, would have to retain the EGR electronics to avoid a check engine light.

 

Some/any of the above also mean the car warms up slower in the winter time, as the EGR on the BLT is water cooled....

So quick update:

I managed to write my car off. So unfortunately we'll never know what the problem is!

Sorry guys. Pretty annoyed about the whole thing.

Gutted :(

 

But,I need a passenger side mirror cover off a SE,is it damaged? :D

Rear write off or front end? Could do with a spare front bumper :-)

Which, if available, I could be talked into taking away....

Gutted for you. Only just seen this and was gonna suggest poss injector loom, but that would be something you would notice easily, it only happened when mine was warm and made the car miss-fire plus had major loss of power.

P.s where are you.. I could maybe do with some parts...lol
