  • For me its the simple joy of not being kicked in the back by my 3 year old as I drive down the road, not because she isn't trying to (because I'm sure she is) but because she cant reach me any more.

  • I love the ACC. The KESSY is fine and I have it but I would prefer the system I had some years ago on a Renault Megane, walk up and the car unlocks, walk away and the car locks.

  • I love the smile this car gives me so often...and the 'Wow didn't expect that' from sceptics...

With my phone (Lumina) and Columbus, it asks whether I want to hear a received text. It then speaks it, then choice to reply - which I dictate.

This is more phone controlled than Columbus though.

I haven't had time to get to grips with the Columbus yet. It would help if I kept the Bluetooth enabled on the phone!

Stuck in bumper to bumper traffic or stopped at lights obviously!

Best feature is the panoramic sunroof as it transforms the cabin. Not entirely sure why so few people spec it. Standard stereo is also surprisingly capable. Dislike the lazy throttle response and over servo'd steering with its big dead zone. Shame because the chassis seems pretty good.

For me, it was price - over £1000 was too much. I think it should be standard on the L&K models. I have one on my i40 and it's nice, but not worth spending an extra grand on.

Sunroofs also tend to leak after a few years. Bizarrely i once had one shatter on my head in my old Peugeot 306 when I got in and shut the door, so that kind of put me off!!

The boot opening from the key as I walk up to the car makes me smile every time.

Beige Leather, after years of working in black holes sitting in something so light and airy is uplifting.

Looking back at the kids (9 and 11) luxuriating on the back seat is nice, my 11 year old has size 9 feet.

We have it on the Yeti L&K, in just under 2 years I can count on one hand the amount of times it has been open (the same goes for the blind)

Its expensive, can leak / squeak (not all of them obviously) but for me it was simply because it wouldn’t be used.

My favourite features:

Styling, looks... well Superb

LED lighting ... all of it... front, rear and inside.

Auto hold (even better if the brake lights went out after say 5 seconds, so I didn’t ’need’ to put the handbrake on)

KESSY (if I can get the car to lock itself fully then it will be perfect)

DSG (mostly... although it is far from perfect)

ACC (mostly... just not keen on the huge gap it wants before breaking, set on ‘very close’ too)

Heated screen, electric hatch (would be better if you could close it from the button next to the gearstick), Xenons were all a must have as I have had them before so did not want to lose them!

Not so impressed with:

Build quality... far too many reporting dash rattles, myself included (mine from the glovebox)

No visible exhaust trims on anything but the 280 (I agree to keep the 280’s different, even if they were ‘just’  like the S2, Milotec do a plastic version which do not look too bad, but I will hold out to see what the Sportline comes with)

I'd have to see the 'zorst trims in the flesh before considering them on my Superb. If they look rubbish, I'd rather do without them.

I don't mind fakery as long as it isn't glaringly obvious it's fake. The Mk.3 Octavia vRS fake trims aren't too bad on the grand scheme of things.

There are, however, some fake exhaust 'solutions' out on the roads that are complete and utter parp:

I agree, there are several people in Germany who have fitted them and say they look OK, I’m not sure though (hence why I am waiting to see what the sort line has to offer)

One problem is the Adblue tank lives where the R/H backbox would usually sit:

One (expensive .... €750 for the exhaust alone - the trims are not available separately!) solution is to buy a 280 exhaust and weld the trim onto your existing exhaust and fit the other as a dummy, you would also need to either cut the existing valance or fit one from a 280, this is a lot of faff IMO and not worth the expense:

Sorry for going OT

poxy auto correct!

Interesting pictures of the underside there. I wondered where they shove the AdBlue tank!

That's certainly a lot of cost and effort for some chrome trims. Maybe I'll just invest in a big pot of silver Humbrol and a brush!

Given enough time I'm sure someone like Superskoda will produce a decent retrofit that's moderately easy to install and looks the part.

I have one query about the “REST” button beside the heater fan speed controller which currently doesn’t seem to be doing anything. There seems to be a little LED light built into it but it doesn’t switch on.

According to the manual (page 122) it is a “residual heat” function button which is suppose to do the following :
Residual heat function on/off - after switching off the Ignition, the remaining heat from the engine is used to continue heating the vehicle

interior for about 30 minutes

Has anyone got and/or used this feature?

Thanks.

Yeah I have used it a few times but for it to work properly the engine needs to be at optimum temperature so if the car wasn't driven on a long trip the heat expires straight away.

Great! Thanks for the reply!

I too am looking forward to this, I currently have an A6 Ultra and my 3 year old struggles for space, I am 6ft 3 which doesn't help but from quick tests in the Superb it shouldn't be a problem.

That's one of the reasons I have ordered a Superb and not another A6, was the rear room for the kids.

KESSY and electric boot and Columbus (need to play with it a little more.)

The room and in the car and the cream interior :)

Ditto - space for kids for me too... i come from a 5 series so space was one of my requirements.

I'd agree with that :)

One trivial thing about the Columbus unit that amuses me is that the labels for the on screen buttons come up when my hand is still 6 inches away from the screen - some detection range!

You don't work as a conductor by any chance do you !!

Space and the AFS. I'm not a fan of ACC for same reason posted previously, and I'm puzzled quite what sport vs eco mode is for the dynamic light assist. The modes seem to make effect on the engine either..

Best feature though is hill hold, although it's not unique to the superb of course.

The sport setting for the AFS makes the lights swivel faster and more aggressively, presumably to keep up with more sudden changes in direction - when driving in a 'sporty' manner  :p

The modes won't affect the engine in terms of performance, they affect how quickly or slowly the engine responds to throttle inputs.

I assumed that the modes for throttle simply change the voltage calibration of the position sensor to make it more "responsive". Eco headlights though? Just slightly odd....

So how is that "eco" as in saves fuel? Unless the light actuators are massively inefficient
