Should I just cancel my order?

Featured Replies

Ordered a SE Business estate on 7 September and was told it would be with me within 10-12 weeks.

Communications with the dealer have been like getting blood from a stone, and the only news I get is when I call 4 or 5 times and then insist on being on hold until I can speak to the right person - otherwise I get nowhere. Every time there is news it is bad.

On Friday I was told that the car was landing in the UK either on Saturday or today, and that I would have my car by Friday. I was also told I'd be contacted by 12 today.

After hearing nothing I've just called and asked to be put on hold until someone was available to speak to. Eventually I am persuaded to accept that someone will call back and amazingly they do.

Now I've been told the transport ship hasn't departed yet and that the it should arrive on Wednesday or Friday, and I may get my car 4 or so days after that.

Having waited half a year for a car, I'm emotionally invested, and I was really looking forward to delivery, but now I just feel thoroughly misled. How can they have been told the car may arrive the next morning, if it hadn't left port at that point?

Even though it will be a massive inconvenience and I will probably end up paying more money for less car, at least I might actually get a car and not just BS.

In a word "No".

If you have waited 6 months...............................

I would wait, it is only a few days to go. The dealer may not have known it missed the boat, basically your car is in a queue waiting its turn to get shipped to the UK. At least you could now postpone slightly if you chose and get the new reg. at the start of March.

I ordered my SE business estate about 3 weeks before you. I've had mine for 10 weeks. Mine would have been delayed but I accepted the Helios wheels and black roof rails. Oddly it still turned up with silver roof rails. Was yours delayed because of the wheels?

One reason for your delay will probably be the dealer. They may not have submitted the order when you placed it (depending on that months orders)or specified a delivery date with the factory that suited them. In my experience dealers will bend over backwards to make sure your order suits them, not you.

I wouldn't cancel though unless you've got something better you can sort in the space of a few weeks. I don't think the superb is as amazing as some owners but it's very good value in SE business spec. I'd hold on for it.

It's just a Skoda, plenty of other cars out there. Stand up for your Consumer rights!

There is of course the possibility that it was on the previous ship, it's been bashed on board or on arrival in UK and the delay is because it's being repaired.....

Not convinced mine hasn't had paint since it left the factory but I'd never be able to prove it.

Why cancel? Gain nothing. Stick with them, explain your disappointment and get some freebies in light of the additional pain. They should definitely do you some mats and a service no?

mmmm i would wait tbh, unless of course you can get a ridiculous deal on a demonstrator superb a dealer has and is willing to sell.

I love my skoda's but cant help thinking what the lead time would of been on a passat?

Gah! Don't remind me about the wheels. Ordered 10 spoke. Check a week later to make that was recorded. "Sorry, I forgot, but the 10 are standard, so that's what you'll get. If you want me to specifically order them I'll have to redo the order which will cause a delay."

This was when I was still being told I'd definitely have the car by Christmas. So decided to hope for the best.

After about 14 weeks when no build date has been provided, I ask that, as it hasn't built yet, can they specify the 10 spokes. Get told the 10 spokes are being fitted until they run out and that I probably won't get them. Being told this week's after I was told I'd have my car proves somewhat galling.

Had it confirmed the other day that it's got Helios.

Hadnt heard about the roof rail issue. Not that fussed either way I guess.

Other than the bad weather cited for the most recent delay, no specific excuses have been made. At the moment I don't believe anything I'm being told in any event.

It would certainly be cutting your nose off to spite your face (that is unless you have changed your mind and now want a different spec?) I would wait.

Of course you can... take it to a pro pained or detailer and he will tell you by just looking at the car if it’s had any paint or not, then he will use a paint depth gauge to prove it.

I went on a detailing day and the owner (granted he is probably one of the best in the UK) walked round the car park and pointed out all the cars that had had paint (on most of them nobody else could see the difference) he then backed it all up with his gauge.

To be honest, that is a ridiculous lead time considering I ordered my SE Business (albeit the hatchback) a month before yours and I'll have had it 17 weeks this Thursday.

As for whether or not you should cancel - no, definitely not. It's a fantastic car. You'll love it.

Regardless of the lead time (frustrating for you though it is) your car is almost here. It would be crazy to cancel it now after waiting all this time. Let's not forget that the new reg is out in a few weeks, the amount of cars being delivered to the UK at this time is bound to increase dramatically and that is bound to have a knock on effect. Just breathe deep and tell yourself you will have it in a matter of days.

That would be fine at the point of delivery but in my case I didn't notice the imperfections until the first time I washed the car, so I'd not be able to prove it had been delivered like that. I meant to do a post about this as I have a rough/patchy section of paint on the bootlid, as if it's not been completely painted and lacquered and the edge of one wheelarch isn't as perfect as it should be.

I waited 24 weeks for mine, getting madder as each week rolled by but in the end the wait was worth while. My vote, if I have one, is to try to get some goodies as good will, whilst humming an haring and wait, the car is worth it. Besides how long will you have to wait for a new order?

I have a similar issue. My Superb has been hovering around the week 19/20 build week for a couple of weeks now which is sometime in May. Or I can pick up a nearly new Passat R-Line estate 2.0 bitdi 240 4x4 with approx 4K on the clock with a similar level of kit and led headlights for less than what I am paying for the L&K. I appreciate there is depreciation etc but at least I will have a similar car. Also my S2 L&K is starting to annoy me

Indeed a generalisation but... from experience, I find sales staff at dealerships to be either utterly incompetent, lazy or.. often just unashamed liars who will say anything to make a sale.. I wouldn't be surprised if some still tell customers "12 weeks sir" !

I'd be surprised if you can cancel the order that easily.

You never been this close from getting your car - soon it'll all be in the past and you'll be driving around turning heads

Play the game, get some freebies out of it... then make sure you do not use them for servicing - don't give them a penny more!

I ordered my car in July... was told "12 weeks sir"

Dealership placed the order with the factory 1 whole month later - August!

I got my car... 2 days before Christmas (nearly 6 months from order)

Still hate them but.. got my car now B)

I wouldn't want to count my chickens, but I ordered the last week of December '15 and was told 'about 12 weeks sir'. I'm still set for build week 09 and it should be locked in from this week, meaning I'll be getting the car just around 12 weeks from order. So it's not all bad. OP you'd be mad to cancel now. As annoyed as you are even the volume (eg Japenese) marques don't tend to keep stock hanging around in fields any more. As such even a 'quick' turnaround company like Mazda still take about 2 weeks. You'd have your S3 by then anyway, exactly as you wanted (or at least specified it at order). Not long now...

Agree on that one! Just ordered a new Aygo last week. 4 weeks of waiting for one of those little ******s! I think it´s getting harder to find new cars in stock these days - no matter what brand it is.

I cut the dealer out of the equation when I wasn't getting any updates. Call Skoda UK directly with your SLI number (If you don't have this get it from your dealer), and you can get updates from them.

Since ordering in November the dealer hasn't contacted me once, but thanks to Skoda UK I know that my car is built and is waiting to board the boat from Emden.

This is something that I will be feeding back to the dealer on collection

I ordered my SE business with one option (kessy) on the day after you tues 8th. I picked mine up just before xmas!!!!!

Mine's got no options at all.

Thanks a lot r08shaw - just called the dealer and got my SLI number without any problems. Called Skoda UK  (on 03330 037 504 in  case it saves someone some googling) and they were able to confirm the car's arrived at UK port yesterday.

Unfortunately they've said it will now be a week to 10 days until it gets to the dealer. The dealer had said it would be 4 days "absolute maximum" so it'll be interesting to see how they spin that one.

Mine's a lease deal, so I'm just wondering if they're holding out so they can stick it on a new plate and get more for it when I hand it back and they flog it.

It's tempting when you've been messed about, but you are nearly there now so it's worth the extra wait with a new plate. But push for 'extras' for the inconvenience.

Mine is due early March but as a fall back plan I've had a look at the Audi A4 there are some giveaway deals atthe moment

No worries. Mine is a lease deal as well, price too good to pass up.

Actually called SUK yesterday to be told that mine is getting loaded on the boat on Saturday.

I don't want mine till March either. My current car doesn't go back till then, but more importantly I WANT a 16 plate ;-)
