Just thought I'd introduce myself.

 

I've owned a 55plate VRS fabia for about 3years now & it's a great car (actually can't believe Skoda didn't make a follow up in the mk II with the diesel engine)

 

Going through the invoice which came with my car, it has clearly been modded; shocks & engine management to name a few, but nothing too obvious.

 

My question is this, I require a new drivers door mirror in red. This proving problematic in sourcing, I've tried all the usual places: online breakers, ebay etc. And am now resigned to an aftermarket version.

 

I've looked online but have yet to find anything which seems to fit the mk I.

 

Do you guys have any recs, which will retain the electric motor & heated functions which are on the VRS model. 

FYI: if it helps, a mechanic has told me, mine has a 4pin plug on the wiring.

Also, I think the mirrors might be the same on non-VRS Fabias? If so, there'll be a lot more to choose from.

Thanks for that Peter, was wondering if anybody could actually recommend any after market door mirrors as well, just for a comparison.

I'm in the same boat as you with my TDi Comfort, Housing is smashed by previous owner and the motor and heating hasn't worked on it since I bought it. Sucks really, let us know how you get on

If not broken, why don't you simply remove top of both mirrors and spray them yourself?

I did mine last year, looked brand new when I had finished..

You can buy any colour mirror you can get your hands on, and as said spray them..

The plastic mirror caps are £25 each for the top and £5 for the bottom. The glass is £35 for a genuine one so you're actually better off buying the complete mirrors because that way you get brand new motor assemblies, not something that's 10 years old with a new cover on it.

Even so, it's not stupidly expensive. Have you ever looked at swapping out the standard wing mirrors on an Audi TT Mk II fir the Matt titanium painted ones on a TTRS? £600 a pair just for the covers. OK, they come painted already, so some people might consider that good value. Personally, I think for a fully motorised, heated, wing mirror, with a brand new motor and glass, £120 painted isn't too bad.
