Buying a used Octavia VRS Estate Diesel DSG - what to look out for?

Featured Replies

Hi,

I'm looking to buy a used Octavia VRS Estate Diesel DSG (late 2013). We are expecting our 2nd child in September so we need more space. Tried our extended rear facing car seat behind the driver seat and I had enough space, unlike many other cars we've tried.

Wife actually chose this over the A6 Avant S line, which she felt was too big when driving.

What should I be looking out for with this model when test driving?

Anything to pay particular attention to on the dsg gearbox - servicing interval on it / oil change, etc?

Also the general car servicing intervals, what are they?

Probably looking to buy one with 30-40k on the clock.

Thanks in advance

Athers

Good choice and welcome to the forum :)

On a 63 plate like mine they should have got free (3 years/30,000 miles) servicing so you would have had the best servicing option of every 10,000 miles at the mileage you're looking at (Im not a massive fan of extended servicing which is about every 18,000 miles or 1 or 2 years (can't remember sorry)

This free servicing was for the first 30,000 miles so after that its either back to fixed servicing every 10,000 or the 18,000 miles (ish) if put back to extended.

I'd check the DSG changes smoothly with no clunks (i.e. no mechatronic problems but there haven't been many, if any problems reported on the mk3 on here)

If you're approaching 40,000 then it will need a DSG oil change at this point.  I think its around £140- £180. not entirely sure as mine was included on a service plan so was included in the 40,000 service.

Check for wear on the inner side of the tyre as some suffered from the tracking being out from the factory (mine included).

Cant really think of anything else.  There's the boom in cabin thread but mine never had this so might be worth checking on a few different surfaces on the test drive.

Thanks for the advice mate, very helpful and will check all those things out.

Yup, I went through all 30 pages on the boom cabin sound last night and it does sound worrying, but we'll see if Im as lucky as you in finding one without this, else it may be a deal breaker for me. Still find it strange that it does not affect all cars.

Have also read up on the road noise, hopefully a change from the potenza's to one with slightly less db would reduce this a little when the tyres would are due a change.

My 1st colour choice is racing blue like yours, followed closely by the Candy White.

The road noise is cured a lot by decent tyres.  Ive got michelin ps3 on one axel and goodyear F1's on the other.

Both good colours although Im biased :)

It's a surprisingly smooth and comfortable ride.

One thing you may want to consider, if this sort of thing is important to you, is the standard sound system isn't really that great. There is a "Canton" factory fit upgrade that basically gives you 5.1 sound so if that was available i would pay extra for it.
