Feedback please on replacement tyres for vRS TSI

Featured Replies

My 2014 vRS TSI is in urgent need of new front tyres. Owned from new since may 2014 and covered approx. 15k miles, on mainly London urban and A roads.

Having reviewed the the forums it appears that a popular choice is the Goodyear Eagle F1 Aysmmetric 3, but my tyre dealers cannot get their hands on this tyre and its on back order from their suppliers. They have suggested as an alternative the Goodyear Efficientgrip Performance.

Has anyone got any experience or feedback on the Efficientgrip Performance tyres or suggest any alternatives that you can recommend for replacing the current fitted Bridgestone Potenza's, or should I wait for the Eagle Aysmmetric and drive very carefully in the meantume!

Thanks in advance for any feedback.

I have the  Potenzas on my late 2015 vRS TSI estate and I like them a lot. Seem very grippy, quite quiet to me. Can't speak for longevity as they've only done a bit less than 2K so far.

Efficientgrip is not a performance tyre - Don't buy those.

My new one has arrived with Pirelli P-Zero's on it.

Will they last? I don't know, but if they don't then I'll most certainly go for the Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymmetric 3's instead. Been a fan of the Asymmetric 2's for a long time, a really excellent tyre.

Efficient grip is a performance tyre, it has the correct speed rating etc.

I had them fitted to my Mk1 Stage two tuned VRS, fantastic tyre, grips well in the dry and most excellent in the wet, quiet, fuel consumption improved.

I've not tried the Eagle assy's but I should imagine the efficient Grip comes a very close second

Hankook Ventus V12 Evo.

Had them on various performance cars and they are very very good, and a bargain considering how much they are compared with some of the other tyres.

I've ran Efficient Grip Performance on my last car and have nothing but praise for it. Excellent grip in dry and wet, and gave me loads of confidence when cornering!

Camskill have the eagles for next day dispatch, great tyre supplier and get a fair bit of exclusive stock when others seemingly cant!

Wife has just got 4 eagle f1s on her car and they are excellent all round tyres. Will probably replace my VRS fronts with them shortly. Never read anything good about efficientgrip only bad but I'm guessing the performance ones are newer/better?

Efficient Grips and Sport Contact 5's are the best tyres within the ~£90 per corner bracket. The SC5's have great wet and dry grip but they are very soft compound and wear quickly. The SC5's also feel a little vague under spirited cornering. The Efficient Grips are less grippy but will last longer.

Michelin Super Sports are supposedly the very best for grip but they are hard to find and cost a fair bit more. F1's are also highly regarded.

I just fitted new SC5's to my (now the Missus') VRS. They cost £360 for a fully fitted and balanced set from Kwikfit. They are a nice improvement over the original SC2's which I always thought were pants.

Car came with the same as thewanderer. As I've managed to get two sets of extremes, I've just swapped to UniRoyal RS3's as they are the slightly older tyre.

Wet grip is very impressive, road noise is good and price is good. Only negative might be wear, as online reviews suggest you'd be lucky to get any decent sort of mileage out of them.

So far seem fine, only done about 2k on then, including a run from London to Scotland over the bank holiday.

Michelin PS3's?

Hankook Ventus V12 Evo.

Had them on various performance cars and they are very very good, and a bargain considering how much they are compared with some of the other tyres.

+1 an epic tyre for the money. Have a full set of these on my 150 TDI Elegance.

I have to say having had a loan GTD with Eagle F1's on the front to a brand new one with Potenza S001's...the Eagle F1's beat the a out of the Potenzas. A much much better tyre...one thing I wasnt able to gauge is how well they'd wear...didnt have the loaner long enough.

My new GTD maybe had another 2k left before the front Potenzas need changing...I might not have much of a choice as its a company car but i'll be gunning for Eagle F1's or Michelin PS3's as a replacement.

Thanks all for your advice. I have managed to find a tyre fitter, F1 Autocentre, who will have the Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymmetric 3 for tomorrow. Lets just hope they are good for their word.

Local Skoda dealer could have got the tyres but would have had to wait over a week. Their price was a couple of quid cheaper than the F! Autocentre, which I was pleasantly surprised at.

Glad you found the F1's somewhere - i rate the A2s so hopefully A3's are as good/better. I had efficientgrips for a short while on the vRS due to being the only ones being in stock at a tyre depot when i got a puncture on holiday but had them swapped out soon after mostly as the rating was wrong on my ones for the vRS but i really didn't like the lack of rim protection.
