Roof bars for Estate...

Featured Replies

Apologies if this has been asked before - I've tried searching to no avail.

Looking for a set of roof bars and a top box for my estate.

Got back from the South coast with enough kit for us and the 2 kids but still really struggled for space.

I've seen some bars on ebay for a fraction of the Thule units but just wanted to see what you guys have done.

Cheers

Using a pair from a Vauxhall Astra van on mine. No problems

I use Thule bars and roof box with bag system, they cost a bit but do the job perfectly. I also have the bike racks that slot into the bars.

Used roofbox.co.uk to buy the lot.

I bought some genuine ones from superskoda I think £110 delivered

I use thule bars and recently bought a thule touring box for all the rubbish needed for a little one and a dog.

The thule boxes are a doddle to fit and mine was silent when fitted.

Best deals I found were on roofracks.co.uk but I did look at roofbox.co.uk too as they have a brilliant selection tool.

I have Thule Wingbar edge in Black on my octavia estate there fantastic.

Its a white estate with the Black pack which seems to go well together.

You have an octavia estate so i would not put cheap second hand ones on

it would spoil it ( thats only my opinion ).

The Thule Wingbar Edge are very quite and streamline they are not very

bulky like some also with Thule you fit them and remove them in minutes

and you can use the same key for all there components.

www.roofrack.co.uk are very good

good luck in deciding.

Got some off eBay. £29.99

Only used occasionally so I'm not making a big investment but they seem rock solid and more than do the job

I see what you mean. The cheap ones do look cheap but I might only use them a couple of times so £100 plus is hard to justify

My 'cheap' ones are really good quality and have T Track. I couldn't justify spending any more.

if it helps, i'm using the OEM bars i got when ibought my first mk2 six years ago - they fit fine on the mk3 rails.

there's usually some in the classifieds or on ebay - you might have more luck searching for mk2 bars vs. mk3. HTH.

thule wing bars are so quiet by comparison. Worth it imo

Thule every time for the bars and other fittings. I've seen other loads lost from the roof when cheap bars fail (normally they bend making the load become loose), but I've never seen a Thule system fail with the same load.

Used Roofbox.co.uk and went for Atera bars with Thule bike carriers. I totally understand the comments about cheaper bars for occasional use, however I'll be carrying a decent value in bikes on mine, so the expense was money well invested. IMHO.

Bought the lot at the same time ensuring all fitments are compatible.
