Some technical questions

Featured Replies

Hello. I'm an owner of a Skoda Fabia Mk3 Style TSI 1.2 110HP bought on November 2015. I would like to ask some (mostly) technical questions about my car.
First of all I'm pretty satisfied with the new Fabia and till now I don't have any problems with it. So let's get to the questions:
1. I'm a little bit dissapointed by the fact that the new Fabia does not have window opening/closure via the key fob, although the old Fabia does have it. Is there any way to add this optional feature to the car?
2. I was wondering if my Start/Stop system is a little bit "buggy" because inside the car's manual says the system won't work if the engine does not reach an optimal temperature. In my case it works even if i have started the car 2-3 minutes ago and stopped in traffic.
3. During the purchase of the car I made a mistake and bought the Swing radio instead of the Bolero. Is it possible to replace it and add features like Mirror Link?

4. I would like to know if there are any software programs for the new Fabia that can change the engine torques and increase power and accelaration.

Thanks in advance!

I can only poke my nose in regarding the start/stop system as I believe it may be the same on my new 2016 Ibiza FR 1.0TSI

I can start the car from cold, drive 30m and come to a stop, and the start/stop system will engage. I too thought this was strange as surely its putting un-needed stress on cold engine components?

Can anyone shed any light on this new system that VW/SEAT/Skoda seem to be using for start/stop now?

It's not working correctly then for sure, let the dealer have a look at it.

On my 2016 Ibiza it will kick in only when engine's normal working temperature is reached.

Ambient temperatures will play a big part in how quickly coolant gets into the 80's Degree C, and then the oil is at operating temp.

the first 3 posts are from different countries, so what Cold Start temperatures are you talking, cold weather , mild. or warm.

APR have a Remap for the 1.2 TSI.

There are threads in this section and in the Performance Section with AwesomeGTI.

I'm talking UK, and last week...so between 2 and 5 degrees c in the morning when starting cold.

I'll pay more attention in the morning and test again!

For me, S/S took quite a while to get enabled during winter (causes you could check in the vehicle status window under Car menu), but with the spring and temperatures at 10C it is enabled almost right away. So I would agree with GoneOffSKi about ambient temperatures. In winter, if I turned off the climate control, it would enable slightly faster, so I'm guessing there are a number factors to be considered.

I was aware about the ambient temperatures but still it doesn't make any sense to me. I know also the climate control is a factor and with it enabled of course the Start/Stop system would not kick in. Without the climate it would almost immedietately. The thing is that the car's manual clearly states that the S/S system shouldn't work till the optimal engine temperature is reached. Also it states that the car shouldn't be pushed too much at the beggining (i.e high RPMs) till optimal temperature is reached. When it's time for the first car service I will tell my dealer to look at it for sure.

Any suggestions about my other questions anyone?

Thank you for your responses till now

We are talking about cold start here (car has been sitting overnight), if air temperature is, let's say, 40 degrees C, even then in no way will the coolant temperature rise to 80's just after a 30m drive.

In my car the S/S system didn't kick in at all today which makes sense, had a 20 minute drive and air temperature didn't rise above 4 degrees C, had a snow flake warning on all the time on the dash. I use A/C all the time.

Is that 30 meters you are saying?

A/C does not function does it if the ambient temperature is below 2*oC does it?   Disabled.

Coolant has to rise for the thermostat to open even when it is starting at 0*oC, coolant circulates in the engine block to get it hot,

then the coolant can warm up the Oil.

The Oil temp might take all day driving and stay below 90*oC.

*it does with me at ambient temps around freezing.)

But coolant temps are up to temperature in a few minutes of starting and driving.

Some good info on stop /start in this thread.

13TSI originally mentioned a 30 meter drive.

My A/C related comment was just an answer to that.

It's true that if you use too many comforts while you drive like climate control the start/stop system won't work but still I have some doubts about mine w/o using any comforts during driving. Now apart from the S/S does anyone know if it's possible to replace the Swing radio with a Bolero one? Thank you again.
