Anyone help finding a Berlingo part? HELP!

Long story but I have rebuilt a 2003 Berlingo Multispace 5 seat 1.6 16v petrol in my OCD way and now spent more than I'll ever get back for it...

Problem is last piece remaining to fix is the heater control panel with 3 rotary dials, but the identical looking panels have endless variants.

Mine is rare as it was a super-rare factory order UK model with air-con specified, built as a facelift model in 2002 for 2003 registration.

The part number I need desperately urgently is Valeo 030809U or Demo 1848819654, Citroen part number 6541NP nothing else fits as cables differ, some have micro-switches, some have electronic re-circ, some have 3 pin plug plus the heavy duty wiring and so on.

We need the exact part. There are dozens of 1848819655s on offer, I have tried swapping components and every approach but they look the same until you open them up and circuit board, rotary wheels, wiring, everything is different!

So far, have tried everything I can think of, searched ebay every which way, searched in Europe but the only one found would not post from CZ, tried find-a-part, etc etc

This car has been a nightmare all the way through and is now sitting waiting for this part before it can be sold....

Any help greatly appreciated!

Many thanks....

Yes, emailed them this morning, waiting on an answer-have also asked family in Poland to search...!

Have tried all ads on google but either won't post, won't reply or sold!

Tried ebay.de, ebay.fr, ebay.ie. ebay.es too, even with title and description.

Also spoke to Valeo, made these only for PSA group, they hold the remaining stock.

Citroen dealer wanted £190+vat, with 12% trade discount, still over £200....

Could try a Peugeot parts supplier online.

It could be the same as the Partner unit, but tried ebay and looked at all Peugeot ones too, these things only tend to be held by Peugeot central parts and are £££.

Any idea on a huge breaker or specialist?

PSA are terrible for parts. My old Berlingo had a special fuel filter which was only available at any parts supplier when I gave them the actual number from the previous one, then they managed to find it on the system under a sub heading somewhere. Front wishbones were the same, spent ages trying to get the correct ones which were specific to only a few vans in the UK.

Can't be any help I'm afraid...

I have a Czech colleague with a brother still living there who might be able to receive and forward on. Might be an avenue if you have no other luck?

That may be the best way-will pm if no joy, many thanks

The thing has been the biggest PITA of my 368 cars to date.

Even with reg. no, all parts sent were wrong; cam belt kit, water pump, service kit, discs/pads, cv joints, heater control panel, the list goes on and on.

Never again. I'll stick with far east stuff which is easy!

Best part is that because many parts were wrong, getting it done was delayed, so many parts went over the 30 day ebay return criteria-even when wrongly supplied, leaving me to re-sell them. Total idiot car.

Even the local factors brought 3 sets of discs and pads to choose from as they are known to be random when fitting parts on the line...

Our mate in Poland has located one @ 100PLN (£18) but the email from the breaker does not specify the part number.....emailed back

So we have this....if the exact part number is confirmed

Or one in CZ that Wino kindly may be able to get sent over....

Keeping at it, any help much appreciated still!

Agreed.  I owned one.  Schitroen Berlingo.  It put me off French cars for life.

Hope you get it sorted.

Would you agree the clutch and gearbox also felt as if they were attaches to completely seperate engines?

Had a couple of them yrs back work when i first got access to the fleet. Changing gears was utter guess work.. and the clutch - im not surprised they wear out so fast.. they be terrible

As an aside, it took me 3 1/2 weks once to get the correct ARB bushes for my old 2003 cordoba... everyone including main dealers parts dept kept getting the "revised" bush- same as whats on my Octy, rather than what was eventually found to be an older version...

Don't get me started!  The clutch and gearbox reminded me of an Austin Maxi I once drove.

During the five years I owned the car, the driver's seat collapsed twice.  The alternator failed (less than 100 miles from new).  The wingmirrors and other trim fell off.  The diesel engine sometimes rattled like an old Transit.  The rear brake cylinders failed (twice).  The dashboard warning lights occasionally lit up like a Christmas tree.  The clutch pedal had a clonk that would put a Citigo's to shame.  Sometimes the engine would cut out and refuse to re-start - until the RAC patrol arrived, when the engine would re-start and run as if to call me a liar.  I came to despise that kitten car like no other I have owned.

You'd think I was trying to get a rare trim piece of a 1930s special, not a heater control for a mainstream car....

Nearly exhausted all options now, CZ one sold, LT one sold, can get new £150++ or there's 2 ads in Poland, one responded on Friday and asked for photos of our unit, sent these and no response since, another seller has identical looking unit but no responses to all emails (in Polish by my wife).

Getting really ****ed off with this bloody car now, after 10 weeks, endless additional faults, a huge spend and about 70 hours of my time.....all to make a loss when it is finally ready

What's actually wrong with the old unit?

Have you considered getting it repaired as if it's just some resistor banks etc they're fairly easy to repair.

Thanks

Considered this, problem is that when removing from car, the erroneous replacement looked identical but with the supposedly push-in re-circulation cable control lever missing.

It looks like it pushes/clips in and had been left on the scrap car by mistake, so we set to dismantling the original to push the spline out to use it on the new part.

Only upon opening it all up and breaking another part in the process did it become clear that the internals were utterly different and the spline was pressed into the unit with a heated flange press and was not removable, plus the new part had no lever fitted as the internals catered for a powered cable adjuster instead.

Obviously we did not want to take the new one apart, so only when we were in the old one and it was in bits and broken did it become clear, infuriatingly.

All the internals are different, different circuit board, new one has more electrics, mirco-switches etc so we can't swap parts from 2 to make one good one.

Annoyingly, after much searching I found that another owner had fixed the same issue by careful disassembly and cleaning/contact paste....

AAAAAAGH

Why don't you send it to someone like BBA Reman http://www.bba-reman.com/uk/index.aspx and get them to repair the old unit?

Great idea, many thanks, rang them-not a part they are familiar with, but offered to look at it if I sent it to them; costs £90+vat, plus parts, plus carriage both ways; they estimated £180-odd and weren't sure if it could be done....

Damn, thought we'd cracked it!

Thanks again

Think you're going to have to buy a new one, although frankly I'd be asking for more than 10% off from the dealer...

You'll spend a lot more money replacing other bits to make a new one fit than to do that, otherwise it's scrapyard central.

Hoping one of the Polish ones will be buyable.....

Some photos:

Note:

the beige and white levers for manual re-circ

the four pins in the square plug; this is the only connection to the car's wiring the left larger long 6-pin socket is unused

the lack of fan speed numbers on the fan switch

the front panel number of 1848819640
