Have skoda reduced the Front brake disc size on new VRS's?

Featured Replies

Sorry to raise a old thread, but I was having a quick look on carzone and as it's pretty much all oil burners in Ireland there is yet to be registered 2017 vRS TDI with either 340mm brakes or 312mm brakes.

So is it only UK spec diesels being given the 312mm or are the people in the factory putting on disc brakes closest to hand?

Looking at the 2 pictures you posted the White car looks to be on 19" wheels, ( Extremes ) and the blue car is on 18" wheels. ( Gemini )

The callipers look the same shape/size so i'm guessing they are both the 312 mm Discs

The Callipers on the 340mm discs aren't quite as curved as the ones in the 2 photo's

    First World problems.

  • So you only decided to buy the car because of the brake disc size. Not the engine, wheels, tyres, performance, seats, lights, etc. etc.?

  • Update. I have had anot her call from Skoda UK with regards to the change of brake size. I have been informed that all TDI's as from 01 Jan 16 have been built with the 312mm brake pads and smaller ca

I'm open to correction but is the carrier not more rounded near the hub on the 19" extremes i.e 312mm yet on the Gemini 18" the carrier pretty much flat?

Here's another diesel RS, registered after July this year once again with the Gemini's 18" the carrier is flat near the hub.

My 230 has the bigger brakes but at the moment she's on 17" Winter wheels. I'll take a photo tomorrow so we can compare

Cheers AG, I'll be checking over my new RS (diesel) tomorrow before it's registered for the road and I'll be taking photos as well as a tape measure to the brakes to see if mine is fitted with either the 340mm or 312mm, so can compare against one another.

So checked my car and it's fitted with the 312mm brakes. I don't mind as they feel very solid. Carrier is curved near the hub on the 312mm brakes.

My vrs car is diesel and registered Dec 2013. It has 340 mm brake discs on 18" wheels. Assume that was standard

Those discs look brand new

Why?

Because on the 25th May when i bumped a member was asking about the reduced size of the discs, and it was easier than linking.

Nope they have done 29k. I just look after my car and don't rag it very often. Plus being so oversized they are not doing much work to wear out. To be honest when the car is tested at mot time the brake level scale before they lock is massive. I do believe they are overkill but do look impressive

Anyone know the rear disc size on a 2013 VRS? I have the 340mm front brakes.

272mm on all Mk3 vRS up until the new FL 245 allegedly comes out with 310mm vented from the Golf R

288mm was from the previous generations

Sorry to bring up a old thread again but just to get the right information before I order replacement rear brakes.

DON't....

I used to have on old Fabia, but after second set quality has gone downhill....better off using ATE power discs & ATE standard pads...much better, tighter tolerances, etc...no problems with mine .

But on rear use the ATE standard discs as no point in grooved etc...

Thanks for the opinion. Always good to gather as much as possible.

Yes 272mm disks on all higher-engined octy3s (everything with 312mm or 340mm front brakes)

+1 for ATE standard pads

Where would you guys recommend purchasing discs and pads from?

I've been looking at MTEC, EBC, EuroCarParts to see whats available.

I just need discs and pads for road use.

Cheers.

EBC Yellowstuff but, only as Redstuff take so bloody long to bed in
