C Class Vs Octavia

Featured Replies

I missed the sat nav/ infotainment screen off my list, but yes that was another comments, looks like a mount was made then stuck on.About the only positive thing that I wish other manufacturers did was, make the speedo as accurate. It was always spot on to my GPS copilot mapping speed on my phone.

  • Lol... I do agree with that. The way you put it, the next time I see one of the new Mercs it will likely remind me of the disappointment of opening the breakmaker in the morning only to discover somet

  • My beef with the design? Why FFS do they have to have an iPad-alike stuck in the middle of the dash? Can't they design a dash that incorporates a big screen? Others do. Just looks very much an afterth

But the tesla one has been properly incorporated as a replacement for the centre console and not just stuck on to raise it to eye level

...and if the screen needs to be so flippin' big because of all the information it wants to show, then maybe that's too much information to look at when you're supposed to be looking at the road ahead...

...unless they're aiming for a satnav with a 1:1 scale.

Saabs had a "night button" that cut all dash illumination except speedo. Brilliant (so to speak) for aiding vision ahead in the dark, avoided interior light distractions and reflections.

I was an Octavia estate owner for very many years both Mark 2 and 3 (and petrol and diesel versions).

Then earlier this year I upgraded to a new C Class, and I have never had a moments regret.

But you must be missing the company of the Octavia owners postings on Briskoda. Though

The Briskoda forums are much better than the Merc ones.

I still own the Fabia so still haunt these forums.

I sold the Octavia to my son rather than let somebody else take advantage of the poor residuals.

We'll forgive you

The octavia has to improve. Its a fleet car favourite now so employees need to 'want' the car they are being taxed for.

They are also very popular with forces who receive a discount on said vehicles.

The trouble is that the Octavia is a compromise. Because skoda is the poor relation to vw/Audi it will never improve to their level for fear of stripping back sales. That's why it is popular though. Those who can read between the lines see the specs that are closer to the marques but the price savings against them too

Excellent way of putting it.

I agree for the spec they not bad. I think I should have gone done the l&K route after speccing my car it was only a couple more £K to an L&K but then that is sort of an oxymoron. Getting closer to £30K for essentially bugdet cars is for me not logical.

Maybe that's why the superb is relatively scarce. A car though filled with luxuries pushing into £30k territory but up against very tough competition in what's perceived as the premium sector

I can't see why people are still calling these "budget". Prices are very much mainstream.

I Think that the superb is let down by its engine availability.  Currently there is nothing more than a 2.0l engine and no sports edition.  Where all the other cars in its sector excel are in their 3l 6 pot engine options, think Audi A6 3.0l or BMW 530d/535d.  If there was a 3l vRS superb then I would probably be awaiting the delivery of a Superb instead of an Octavia

Referring to the budget segment within VAG. I realise that ford's and hyundai and others prices are pretty much on parity nowadays.

Have they stopped doing the 4x4 280?

Yes, but again that was petrol

Haha yeah when people say 'budget' I think of Dacia or ironically the horrible rental spec VW jetta I had the last time my VRS went in for repair!

Ah, that makes sense. Context is everything! :)

Our L&K with at least two thirds of the available extra options ticked cost nowhere near 30k, it wasn't even 25k, for that money a great car which doesn't feel budget at all.

UK purchase? If so please share with the rest of us

Yep, been open about it on quite a few threads. Brokers will discount way lower than any dealer. We bought ours through New Car Discount. Supplied by a Skoda dealer and we were first owners on the log book.

Got my Scout through the same company.20% off RRP. Will be delivered on a trailer this Friday from main dealer in Preston all the way to Devon!

Simpsons?

Yeah. Roger, if it's the same guy that brought ours he's a thoroughly nice chap! :)
