Octavia mk1 VRS clutch

Featured Replies

Mines just started to slip so just wondering what everyone is fitting these days?

Some places are telling me to replace the clutch and dual mass, others are saying the dual mass will be fine and just replace the clutch.

I'm also being told that I should replace the dual mass with a solid flywheel and upgrade the clutch.

Advise please, could do with ordering this weekend as have a 43% discount code for gsf :)

depends on what you want really. is the car going to be kept standard or remapped and modded? afaik the standard clutch will take a stage 1 map, but any more and it's best to get the g60 solid flywheel and vr6 clutch (think it's that way round) otherwise stay original with a 417001911 & 500044010 dmf, clutch and bearing (those are LuK numbers by the way, 417001911 is a combined clutch and dmf system)

I have the G60 flywheel and VR6 clutch, very easy and progressive, and can handle torque and power :)

Think thats the way I'm going to go...

Is it just a standard vr6 clutch you have?

Thanks for that.

Ditto g60/vr6 combo, got mine from awesome gti with a lighter flywheel

If the DMF is not damaged (excessive play right-left) you don't have to change it (how many miles does the car have? ). If the car is stage 1 or more (stg 2) you can try Sachs racing complete kit (clutch-pressure plate) which for the 5 speed gearbox has shown really nice results. If you want something more extreme you can try clutcmasters Fx setup like fx400, for example, which can tolerate with bigger number of torque. But to be honest if you don't drive hitting overboost in lower rpm's with high gears, what ever clutch setup you will use will be enough for stg1 car.

i did the g60 fly but in my opinion not upto much as vr6 clutch isnt the strongest , valeo make a solid conversion designed for 1.8t and tdi 130 golf which ive fitted with a couple of my mates and they in my opion feel so much nicer and slightly more useful than my vr6 set up , valeo number is 826317 about £170/£180 plus vat

euro number is 63378001

Cheers Dean,

I'll look into that option as well then.

Flywheel doesn't appear to have any issues and a lot have vw specialists have told me it will be fine as generally it's only the diesels that they have flywheel issues with.

It's one of those jobs that you don't really want to do twice though so I'd rather replace the lot as a precaution.

i'll defo be fitting the valeo , my mate runs stage 2 r tech on his and drives like a tool so if it can live with him then my cruising about be fine

Both the Darkside and Valeo flywheel/clutch kits look like great value for money for a few hundred quid. Which one is going to take more low- to mid-range torque for road abuse from a K300 hybrid with steel rods? Or is the next option £600-odd for a Sachs SRE setup? Gulp.

G60/vr6 is only up to about 250bhp don't think it will like 300

darkside say it will handle up to 300ft/lbs (410 nm) ...

I had the Valeo conversion fitted last week as my clutch was shagged after 123500 miles. The DMF was actually OK, but I didn't want to take the chance. Pedal is now a lot lighter and I switched the remap on again for the first time in nearly a year!

they are a great set up in fairness and better feel than stock g60 vr set up which i've used before

But of an update....

In all honesty, I was hoping I could put this off for a month or 2 as its only a second car but I've been using it quite a bit over the last few weeks for car shows etc and now the clutch is slipping quite bad. Also an inner cv boot has now failed and is p***ing grease everywhere , one of the joys of running low I suppose, so I now need to get something sorted.

Euro car parts wanted around £255 for the valeo conversion and a local transmission specialist quoted £140ish + vat to fit it.

Been looking around a other options as well... Dark side's vr6 kit is around £510 fitted and awesome want £600+ for basically the same thing.

Anyway, logged on here this Morning and saw a 15% discount code for Euro car parts which made my mind up as it brought the valeo kit down to £216, so I've ordered one.

Will uptate this when I've had it fitted.

Been looking into this as my cars nearing, 110k miles and there's no records of it ever having a clutch.

The darkside one linked above looks grand, but was wondering whether people would recommend the 7kg or 10kg flywheel? I vary between cruising through built up areas and travelling on the motorway.

Mine is on 160k and still on the original clutch I believe...

Unless you're doing trackdays or drag racing then I'd go with the heavier flywheel as it's probably closer to the weight of the DMF.

I only drag race between lights...

Do enjoy booting it every so often, but mostly not so the 10kg sounds the best by your description. Planning on upping the power aswell.

I fitted the Valeo in mine

I have mixed reviews about it.tbh. My original clutch had become very heavy on the pedal and I had thought about changing it for sometime so when it started slipping it was the perfect excuse.

Not knowing what had failed I decided I would need to replace the clutch and flywheel.

The vr6 and g60 conversion is a bit overated in my opinion as they are only standard parts rather than an upgrade as such. They apparently rattle on tick over as well...

A few people recommended the valeo kit, plus euro car parts are always putting out 15% off if you order on line offers so that kind of swung it for me as it worked out a tad over £200 for the full kit.

why have I mixed reviews? Well basically the clutch is now very light! Which is taking me a while to get used to tbh, espesially as I don't drive the car very often. Just feels wierd as I've driven it for so long wuth a really heavy clutch. Secondly, you get a bit of judder when the clutch first bites which feels strange as you don't get this with a dual mass. I am however told this is quite normal.

Overal, its quite a good conversion. I don't get any slip and I'm running around 250bhp

Was looking at this

Just no.

I was lured in by the attractive asking price, but it's not very good quality at all. I'll mention it as I found the same link to the same supplier on this very forum, bought a kit and fitted it, then received a barrage of "Helpful" comments along the lines of: "What did you buy THAT pile of **** for?!?" etc.

Turns out that it WILL handle 211bhp and 256ft/lb (R-Tech Stage 1 map), it doesn't shake or judder and is easy to use, but I'm not impressed with the rate of wear as it appears that it'll have quite a short life.

You could do a lot worse than the Darkside kit, if only to avoid the torrent of abuse from "Experts".
