Finally took a few photos of the 230 after a quick clean.

I'll give it the full works when the weather's better and I have a full day spare :-)

The 230 is only £730 more than a Standard 220 ( hatch ) and with so much extra kit it's well worth the extra cash.Leather, heated seats, folding eletric mirrors, black pack, sunset glass, fancy front

  • No. I got the 230 for the diff and financially it made sense based on the other kit you get thrown in vs a 220. Spec a 220 with to match a 230 and it'll cost you more. The additional 10bhp was irrelev

Greetings to all the 230 owners.

I've some questions, 'cos I'm considering buying a used 230.........

It would probably one of the ex-Skoda "K" plate cars that are now in dealers, so 16 or 66 plate, I'm struggling to find out which head-unit was fitted as standard.

I'm not sure if the Bolero or Admunsen was the O/E fit for 2016, & also getting confused as to the screen size!

The wheels, are they really prone to kerb, etc. damage or is it just me thinking that they look fragile?

Any thoughts on pros & cons would be welcomed, + are you happy with your purchase.

I'm really trying to not buy a Leon Cupra ST even though it's quicker, I don't like the Cupra's boy-racer image, or the interior styling at all (age related!) & I don't need the performance either.

So, any help & advice will be appreciated.

TIA, DC.

The standard O/E fit is the Admunsun, any wheels are prone to Kurbing, just keep away from the Kerbs.  The tilting passenger side mirror Is very good when reversing, you can see the wheels

Thanks Auric, I'm quite good at kerbing, I usually get a discount from the local refurbishers............

Good thinking re the side mirror, the option has been enabled on all or cars, I'll reset it to drop a bit more.

What screen size is the Admunsun in the 2016 models?

I seem the think it's a 6" screen (Bottom left to top right)

That would be the current unit, probably larger in the '17 MY facelift.

That's a massive list of VCDS modifications, with some useful hints re. what isn't standard on the car.

I've yet to see the car that's of interest to me but it's well-equipped & much better value than the equivalent Golf.

One problem for us, it's a 300 mile round trip from here & if the weather gets worse I'm not inclined to make the journey just to buy a car.......

Watch this space.............

Can any of you 230'ers post me some pictures of the black exhaust tips?

estate or Hatch ?

this one seems to be one of the cheapest 230 estates on Autotrader - there's a cheaper white one at simpsones, but this red one is being advertised with a ridiculously small number of miles on the clock:

the "detail" says it's only 217 bhp but the registration comes up as a 230 in the insurance systems. and it's a "real" local reg, not an ex-skoda K-plate

Just looked at the Advert Mr Kipper and the words Arnold and Clark appear in the same advert. The rear window should have a very large Yellow dealer sticker on it which shouldn't be straight

Yes I'm not a fan of that franchise either which is why I would treat all parts of the advert with a bucket of salt, am also surprised the price isn't 25,100 rather than 21,500

Wow, didn't pay anywhere near either of those for my ex-demo 230 last month - I must've got a proper bargain.

I'm sure they'll come down once they get the facelifted Octavias in stock as their new demo cars ... I'm pretty sure that's why I was able to get mine for so cheap.

Thankee, Kind Sir.

Two probs, it's 361 miles away & it's a manual too.

Since we already have an estate then a hatch would OK, but it's needs to be a DSG.

Even down here we've heard about Arnold Clark............

Good thinking, but none of the dealers down here run vRS's as demonstrators.

Plan to run an iPhone boost gauge via obd port and so need iPhone in view

plus it makes it easier to play Pokemon Go on the move.....:P

Update.....

Approaching 13K on mine now at 10 months old. Overall still like the car. Fuel consumption has took a tumble over winter months from near 40 mpg to around 35mpg on average and the disc hubs are thick rust now and the lower materials quality over my Audi is becoming more apparent. Carpets, interior finishes are all showing their inferiority, although don't think VW is any better at all.. Original tyres (can't believe some of the stuff on here about tyres) have around 4.4 - 5mm on front and around 7mm on rears. The horrible 230 stickers were binned ages ago, bit embarrassing advertising 230PS, its hardly class leading, although I am sure it's around 260. Might get some 260 stickers made! Still cannot find any use for that apple play crap thing, am I missing something, I can't use mine wirelessly, should I be able to?

I was looking forward to finding out the grip abilities in snow, got my chance the last couple of weeks. Thinking the fancy diff would effectively give me a locked 2 wheel drive (similar to a standard 4 wheel drive) surely it would pile through snow. It was horrendous, one of the worst cars I have had for grip in snow. It came to a stop 1/3 way up a long steady hill then slid down backwards with little control of it, scary. I stuck with main roads of the flat type as much as possible after that, very disappointing. I think my old 525 BMW was better. In it's defence I carry a fair bit in the boot so the weight distribution would be taken away from the front wheels a little. Not sure I will get another unless a 4wd version is made and certainly finished with 4 cylinder diesels so that's not an option for me.

Maybe your next car could be a Golf R Estate or a '17 Leon Cupra ST. You'd be stuck with a DSG but they both have AWD.............

A cheaper alternative would be smaller wheels & winter tyres, perhaps?

I'm looking for an EOS replacement & a vRS 230 might be fun, but if I  needed to climb any snow-covered hills I'd use the "R".

FWIW my old Superb has never been a problem in winter, & although we live in Essex it;s not all flat.....
