Oil temperature display missing

Featured Replies

For the life of me I can figure out what I have done to completely disable the oil temperature display.

I noticed that the car was set to two yearly service but the dealer said it needs annual / 15,000km servicing to maintain warranty (that's what they say here in Aus), so I went abou changing the adaptations to suit and as a result the temperature display went. Looking at the debug log I have reversed everything I did and still no joy.

Anyone know what mcodeing / adaptation combinations are to enable oil temperature display?

Might be better to post this in the VCDS section as more people used to fiddling with VCDS check in there.

One I have to hand (not a VRS) there is a selection for "Oil temperature display" in 17 (instruments) about line 50

On other VAG cars it is sometimes tied in with the laptimer which may apply to the VRS if the above does not work

(from the sticky)

Controller 17 - Instruments

07 - Coding

Byte 1

Enable Bit 3 - Lap Timer active

Usual caveats apply genuine cable, latest VCDS (15.7.4) etc etc

If you set it to fixed servicing it will disable the oil quality sensor so will no longer read the oil temp. You need to re activate it.

I cannot locate this setting anywhere.

the setting for the oil temperature display is turned on as is the bit in the coding for temperature display.

Haven't got the manual to hand, but I think it's in the vehicle settings on the centre display. Somewhere in there you can tick boxes to show what is shown on your dashboard display. One of which is oil temp!

That option is missing from the infotainment..

However if i do a factory reset it appears on the maxidot display but only shows --- and disappears when the ignition is turned off then on again.

It will be missing if it's not coded. If the dash cluster is coded to fixed servicing and the connection to the sensor inactive the option will go from the display.

The picture I took is from a mk2 Octavia but the same option should be there when recoding (07).
