Yeti electronic faults- Help please?

Featured Replies

Hello all,

New to the forum, i own a 61 plate skoda yeti 1.6 diesel greenline just ticked over 90,000 miles.

Car has been fine up untill a few days ago when it developed a few electronic faults.

Problems are-

1) driver side windows do not work both front and rear.

2) central locking doesn't work for both driver side front and rear doors

3)front wipers don't work

I took off the door panel all connectors seem fine. I disconnected the cars battery in hope this may work this temporarily fixed the problem with the windows however this didn't fix the issue with the wipers and central locking. The windows stopped working again 10 minutes later.

Checked fuses and checked keys battery.

Any helps much appreciated.

Thanks,

Sav

do you know a friendly mechanic who can scan for faults?

How old is the battery?.

Hi battery hasn't been changed since i bought the car i'm assuming it's the original battery.

I scanned with a basic vag scan tool i have however it came up with no fault codes.

A new battery can often be this fix .....many of us think the modern techy bits are somewhat sensitive to voltage levels and and often unrelated inexplicable things happen which seem to be resolved by a new one .....4-5 years being a typical life.

+ 2 - Almost definitely the battery.

With the battery now five years old the first thing I would do is replace it. It might solve the problem (which would be great) but even if it doesn't an ageing battery might be a contributory factor to something else (so you will have ruled out that potential complication). And you're not spending money unnecessarily as realistically it can only have a limited life left in it and changing it now means you can look at your options and change it at a time and place to suit you rather than having to get it sorted one cold, wet morning when it won't start. (Let's just say I'm a glass-half-empty kind of guy....).

Don't forget to let us know when you get it sorted. These sort of head scratching problems seem relatively common and it's useful to know what's beentried and worked "just in case".

Hi all, having taking the car to a mechanic he was able to fix the central locking and window issue, was due to torn wiring inside the door panel. Dont know how i missed the cables being torn when i opened the door panel.

He was unable to help me with the wiper issue. All he said was theres no electricity going to the wiper motors, any ideas?

Do i need new wiper motors?

Fix the "no electricity" problem first and the wiper motor will run.

I would respectfully recommend that you change your mechanic for someone competent!

Mechanic was unable to help usually quiet reliable, i don't want to pay another £45 for an auto electrician to scan the car.

What can the possible causes be of no electricity going to the wiper motor?

Wiper stalk maybe? however as i said the rear wiper works which makes me think it isn't the stalk.....

I presume he has checked the correct fuse?

Fuse is a good place to start.

I presume he has checked the correct fuse?

Fuse for wipers is no 19 in the under bonnet fuse box.

Thanks for the replies guys.

Ended up buying a wiper motor for no reason, turned there was a break in the wiring to the wiper motor, break was by the air con pump.

Got a spare wiper motor if anyones interested :)

What a bit of luck break in window and central locking wiring as well as the wiper motor.

That is bad luck. The car hasn't been repaired or worked on lately, has it?

I had a similar problem on my old Fiat Tipo years ago. Every time I tried to use the rear wiper, nothing happened except the rear number plate light would flash on and off. I traced it back to wires that had rubbed through where they passed from the roof into the boot hatch. Drove me mad trying to fix it as I didn't realise the number plate light was flashing until I took the hatch apart to fit a wiper motor that I got from the scrappy.

Sounds odd for a wire to break

Agree about having been worked on otherwise sounds like poor factory assembly as the looms are carefully arranged to avoid that sort of fault.

The cars had no work on it recently, i'm lost as to what caused the break in wires.

First time something like this happened to me.

Initially thought may be a major electrical issue when they all went wrong at the same time.

Relieved in all honesty :)
