Columbus TV Tuner Query

Featured Replies

Just picked up my Superb Combi II L&K FL on Saturday (shall post some pictures soon). I have been fiddling around with the Columbus but have noticed with the TV tuner on a lot of the channels I get a picture but no sound and when you switch to them a little 'mute' icon appears in the top LS of the Columbus screen and the MFD. Other channels have sound in full stereo. Turning up the sound makes no difference. Does the sound part depend on signal strength or is there a setting that I have not found? I've looked under settings in 'Media' and changed a few tick boxes but nothing works. Any suggestions?

Yes the signal is too poor , the sound mutes before the picture breaks up.

Tv reception is poor to say the least.

+1 Signal is poor.....
And no reason for it as I can be parked outside the house and one day get a great signal for telly then next day on the same channel exactly as you describe ...

Tried to search to see if there is a fix on internet but just seems to be week signal :notme:

I have travelled throughout the country and as long as I tune to the local signals for all the main channels that reception is usually quite good to very good. Yes there are occasions when reception is rubbish but by and large I have been very happy and I use the TVs/square eyes a lot.

Hi I have the same experience the signal quality does vary alot and this can result in no sound..also when signal strength is poor and I am flicking through stations it causes the odd lock up where is does nothing for 60 seconds or so and then catches up.

But overall great little toy that makes waiting in the car for the wife so much more bearable.

yes,as all the informed people above have mentioned you have to be in a very good signal area, otherwise it plays up.

Just watched PM resign on my columbus tv  :sun:

Thanks everyone for the replies. Thinking about it this does seem to make sense. The afternoon I got the car home I remember sitting in it and watching and hearing the commentary from one of the Euro matches but later that night when I was messing about in the car on the same channel the sound muted. I must be in a varying signal area!!

It is amusing to note that the digital age has given us perfect pictures (when the signal is good enough) or just nothing whereas we used to be able to still watch a snowy analogue picture with weak signal and a massive choice of digital radio stations if you don't mind poorer quality than fm and mono on most stations.

Its progress don't you know :D

You should check that the sound is set to the correct channel. Search on here, it needs to be on channel A or maybe B. You need to change it on a channel that's actually working. I had this with no sound from a few channels and it was sending me round the twist. I can't check my unit as the cars in a bodyshop getting repaired but I found the answer on this forum. I'll have the car back next week if you've not sorted it.

Have you tried a retune in your area

How do you re-tune. The instructions are about as useless as a chocolate teapot.

tried a retune...hahaha

Never found a way of retuning the tv, it does it on its own when it finds stronger signals but takes a while so useless if moving.

Got your car back? If so can you take a look at your settings please as I haven't solved the problem and I can't figure our how to retune the TV either.

Cheers

It's called atmospheric conditions..... ;)

Atmospheric conditions can vastly change the quality of the signal you are receiving.

Where I am in North Sheffield, depending on the weather, I can sometimes pick up Lincs FM on the car radio but not the next time I try. The nearest mast that transmits this station is around 50 miles away.
