Bi Xenon Adaptive Headlights

Featured Replies

Anyone else had an intermittent fault light on the dash stating issue with front side lights.

The fault warning triangle comes and goes and has now fingers crossed been identified as a faulty control module on the back of the lamp.. awaiting parts............but that will require the front of the car (bumper etc) to be removed to sort it out.

Then the Bi Xenon Adaptive Headlights will have to be reconfigured along with all the other stuff on the front of the car.

Fab headlights but the car is only a year 1/2 old...??!!

Your headlights have an led strip at the bottom and surprisingly also a halogen bulb fitted behind the reflector.

Many people don't know about the halogen bulb and assume there's a fault with the headlamp controller, in reality it just needs a 50p capless bulb and the repairer to pay attention to tech bulletins.

Cheers James @ RRG will call my Skoda in Cardiff tomorrow as this will not I take it require the front of the car to be removed as stated in the solution for the supposed controller

Just the removal of a plastic cap and fitment of a bulb my friend.

Do you know if this bulb's brightness can be increases  (via VCDS ) so more of that area is lit up

Led bulb perhaps

By default it's set to max brightness on the BCM. You can only turn it down or off.

It could be replaced with LED though

I am using these LED bulbs, they are very bright and illuminate the bottom area very well (video).

VCDS coding is not neccessary. They consume about 4 Watts, there's no bulb out warning on dash.

Confused now as my dealer in Cardiff stated there is no halogen bulb fitted behind the reflector (car new build and registered end of Sept 2014).

I am awaiting availability of the new controller part pre the major refit that entails.  Its on warranty but don't like unnecessary fiddling of body work, /fixtures & fittings as all that removal and refitting can cause other issues.

???

Do your headlights have the led strip at the bottom of them?

Yep its a Sept 2014 new reg with spec'd with the bi xenon adaptive tech headlights with the LED light bar along the bottom edge of the headlight.
I mentioned the Halgon to them to make sure they had not missed that as an issue but the reply there is no halgon bulb its the control unit

Don't take for granted what white dove say. They are useless and I mean useless trust me. Hence I now use Capitol Skoda in Newport. I'd rather travel the extra distance I'd be more than willing to take a look at it if you want.

Thanks for that. Have you changer the fog light bulbs, I need H16 fitting but I'm a bit unsure which ones to get

Think I'll bring my car to your garage for its yearly service

Yep, more info here. :)

Update:

I discovered some issues with the new LED headlights.

These are brighter than my previous version and therefore heat up more.

When the temperature reaches 80-90 C (in 20-25 minutes), the built-in protection switches to low brighness (60%) mode.

Still usable for fog/cornering lights though.

Color matching is excellent (I ordered 4300K white) with the xenons/LED DRLs.

I do :)

And that is having 'experience' of most of the other dealerships in the East Lancs area over a number of years.

Take it to RRG for James would be my recommendation :)

Find another dealer - this one is talking out of their arse

The O2 used to throw up spurious bulb and indicator warning messages when the sidelight bulbs were on their way out as well.

First many thanks for all your messages and comprehensive images and details.

I challenged the dealer, they stated they had replicated the error and traced to the control unit.

BUT;

What is interesting for the past week with the usual journeys around South Wales and South West  no error warning has appeared on the dashboard?!!

They probably fitted a control module and a new bulb in each headlight to justify their time spent and cover their backs.

No Work undertaken or New parts fitted as yet

Dealer has only undertaken a fault diagnostic

Hence why its odd that the error message has not reappeared for over a week now??

  • 2 weeks later...

After all was the led  strip working on not?

If changing a bulb  "cures" the issue,  it isn't a led strip at all it's a reflective strip illuminated by a halogen bulb...  :p  :(
