2013 Fabia vRS extended warranty

Featured Replies

Just got a 2013 Fabia VRS with 30k from Skoda. Came with a 1 year warranty, but I want to extend it. Salesman told me I'll get a letter towards the end of the first year asking to buy an extended warranty. Does this sound correct? I'm worried about DSG and oil consumption having read they can be expensive to fix.

The car is amazing, as I was coming from a Honda Jazz which was 13 years old. I doubt this vrs will last half that. :)

Not sure about a letter but you'll be able to purchase a further extended warranty from Skoda online.

You prob won't get a letter in the post (sales man will be talking crap) just buy on line as mentioned above

You will get a letter, in fact you'll get a few. One for your warranty one for a new car one for AA roadside assistance..... So yeah the dealer is right

No guarantee you will get a letter when buying a Used Car even a 'Skoda Approved Used Car'.

Maybe that Dealership ensures they are sent out, maybe that dealership ensures Skoda UK or the Warranty Part has the Registered Keeper Details on the System.

Maybe you will get the conflicting offers on a 'Pay as you go Warranty & Roadside Assistance'.

But since not all Registered Keepers get made aware of Service Campaign / Recall Actions by Post.,

you can not be sure of 'Warranty Extension Offers'.

I've not received a letter on mine which ran out in June even thou I've been into Skoda & had the details changed to me.

I thought there 1 year extension was expensive when I filled it out online

I'm sure they said £500 for 2 years?

You can now only extend for one year at a time. Skoda dealers previously sold Car Care Plan warranties which had one or two-year options.

Any idea what a year costs?

Any idea what a year costs?

Think it varies depending on the age of the car - I remember someone on here quoting around £170 for a three-year old Fabia - I paid about £240 when mine hit five years old (with a £250 excess).

Not bad for piece of mind I guess.

Compared to the cost of a new gearbox or engine I think it's an absolute snip! I only intended to keep my vRS for two years (until the manufacturer's warranty expired) but here I am a further three years (almost) down the line.

I've just checked - I paid £230.54 with a £250 excess (it would have been £334.83 with nil excess).

Thanks

Before buying be sure to check the exclusions.

The last Skoda Approved Warranty provided by Car Care ltd had Driving School / Instruction cars in the Exclusions.

Where in the engine bay can I find out the engine type?

You cant.

You can look at the bottom of the Drivers Door Pillar and the sticker says CAVE or CTHE.

Or look at the V5, or the Sticker in the Spare Tyre Well.

If it was built late 2012 and on it is likely a CTHE unless for some reason a late First Registered CAVE engine car.

With nearly 32k on the clock it's now quoting me £260 with £250 excess or £367 with £0 excess, it was only about £200 last year

Bump.

Might be cheaper this year than last....

Is It as simple as going online and putting my reg in and away you go?

That is it.

The car should have been serviced according to the Service Schedule / Guidelines and not be Modified, ie Remapped.

You can just go by what you know and put in the registration and the cover you want.

I do not have the link to the Warranty Application.

Just spent an hour trying to sort out an extension to the warranty on my Fabia VRS.

None of the dealerships I spoke to seemed either to know about it or to be interested.

One of them kindly gave me the number of VW Finance who transferred me from Department to Department until my call got lost.

Google led me to http://www.skoda.co.uk/owners/warranty/extended-warranty

This leads you to http://www.skoda.co.uk/owners/warranty/extended-warranty/reasons-to-extend-your-cover

Where it is suggested that the price is somewhere between £170 and £305 and you are told to contact your dealer.

Eventually I 'phoned Skoda and got taken to http://www.skoda.co.uk/owners/warranty/extended-warranty

Finally I got a 1 year extension to five years for £273.

Skoda UK Main Dealerships have never made buying Skoda Used car or Extended Warranties 'Simple' or been Simply Clever.

(Odd because the commission on signing owners up to one was pretty good...)

Amazing we even managed to buy the Skoda Approved Car Care Plan Warranty or the one they then offered.
