Is the vRS 4x4 any different than the normal 4x4?

Featured Replies

Regarding suspensions and handling, are there any differences compared to same engine (the 135kw TDI) non-vrs version?

I have tried asking the local sales rep but they have no idea (seems nobody buys a vRS where I live).

I believe the only two 4X4 Octavia's in the UK are the VRS and the Scout. If i am correct with theses two models there will be differences in suspension as ones  sports (VRS) and the other for light off road (Scout). The VRS will handle better than the scout, lower, stiffer suspension.

Hope this helps

the Octavia is also available with a 150 4x4 on the non vRS/Scout models..

I hate VAG for not doing a 184/4x4 with manual transmission, seems to be the same across all VAG variants :(

My understanding is the vRS gets "special" suspension, seats, alloys, variable steering rack and fake engine noise generator (to go with the fake exhausts on the diesel) other wise it's a bog standard Octavia with a couple of badges.

As lmorris2794 says the vRS should handle better but on the other hand the ride is probably firmer with more tyre noise, you may get better brakes (some diesels vRS cars now appear to be shipping with smaller brakes than previous although not sure if that includes the 4x4) and the steering will be better with the variable rack.

Some "lower" octavias only get torsion beam suspension rather than independent rear suspension but I'd guess the 4x4 wouldn't have torsion beam.

I've never had a 4x4 octavia in any guise but I've had the FWD 150bhp Octavia as a courtesy car and it felt every bit as quick as my vRS TDI (probably due to the reduced weight) but you could tell the difference in cornering and braking - it wasn't a patch on the vRS.

Was there not an Elegance with 4x4 for a while as well?

I believe you can get that combo with Audi in the A3 although it's a smaller car and a good bit more expensive.

not any more, same with 2.0 petrol, if you want quattro you have to have the £1500 auto option, everything or nothing!

Agreed. I'd really like 4 wheel drive, especially for the winter months, but I have no interest in DSG.

My 4x4 vrs has the smaller brakes, but they are very good and well up to the job.

Main differences on Romanian market are the sport suspension, available now only on VRS and variable steering rack also available only on VRS.

I think both are something that you need on a 184 hp 4x4 car.

The rest is all about styling, half leather seats, painted calipers, one fake exhaust, etc.

If by local sales representative you are speeaking about Compexit, forghet about it....

Tell me more. What problems do they have?

Two things I don't really get about Octavia:

  • why can't you get the sport suspension on normal Octavia?
  • why do you have to get the leather seat option if you want the electric seats (on vRS)? the problem is that the normal seats don't seem to have the cushion tilt adjustment ....

At least in Norway you can get the sportsuspension on regular Octavias.

Interesting, can you get it on the 4x4 versions too? In the car configurator I have here sport suspension option is disabled for me if I get the 4x4 transmission.

Yes. The democar I borrowed had the sportsuspension. It was a 1.8TSI 4x4.

I didnt order it for my self, but I had the option to do so.

Manual six speed box - Check

207bhp & 460Nm - Check

4X4 - Check

Bilstein B12 Suspension - Check

Sounds like you need my Yeti not an Octavia ;)

Until recently you could have the sport suspension on normal Octavia. This is specific for RO market, and it is the importers choice, Porsche Romania.

They want to somehow differentiate normal Octavia from VRS.

You can easily fix this with an after market suspension, maybe even better than stock sport suspension.

No!

You could order sport suspension on every model EXCEPT 4x4.

I wanted the "lowered sport suspension" but that was not an option.

So that option has been removed? When did that happen?

The only thing I couldnt spec was the Bad road package, because L&K.

I ordered my car in jan 2016 and the sport suspension was not an option on 4x4.

I've also been in touch with KW because I wanted their Street comfort coilovers, but then again; they dont make this for the 4x4 version.

There are different rearsprings on the 4x4 vs fwd with IRS

It was an option when I ordered my car January 2015, that Im 100% sure of. Both the configurator and the dealer would let me spec it. And the democar I borrowed had the sportsuspension.

And besides, the 1.8Tsi has IRS both in Fwd and 4x4 versions.

I think I'm right in saying that here in UK you can't get a 4x4 variant with a petrol engine. The 4x4 Octys are all diesel.
