It's standard practice for insurance companies to massively hike premiums on renewal these days. They rely on the (small?) percentage of customers who just let the policy auto-renew. Nobody can say X insurance company will be best as it's so (impossibly) complicated and individual that what's great for one will be woeful for another. Just keep shopping around and haggling (in the case of the renewal) is the only answer.

I pay £305 with MoreThan but that does not include business use.

Insurance and underwriters is a minefield. The comparison sites 'features' and quality varies too. The problem of course, insurance is a thing you don't want, but need, so cost is key. Then when you need it, lowest cost isn't necessarily great either, if you follow my meaning. I've had huge hikes and called about to get an idea if it's me, the postcode or cheeky-hike-renewal.

You could try the Insurance scheme we have, http://insurance.briskoda.net, of course postcode lottery and risk profile, but it works for a good number here.

Cheers,

Colin.

My Girlfriend has just been having trouble renewing the insurance on a her Astra. She's looking to move into my house soon so was getting quotes based on my address which is a slightly higher risk area than where she currently lives so we expected a slight increase, but the camparison sites were quoting literally double the price. I told her to give Brentacre, who I insure through, and they were over £200 cheaper than the best online quotes she was getting.

Try LV (Liverpool Victoria). I paid £189 for an L&K TDI150. Fully comp and business use. Admittedly that is with max NCD and I guess a low risk location and profile but it was a hell of a lot cheaper than other quotes at the time.

As ColinD said it's all a lottery, you try getting a  L&K TDI150 insured for £169.00 where I live, your excess would be 4 times that amount!

Comparison site for a guide price to quote to your existing insurers and have a punt around the independent brokers, one thing to be mindful of, many "Brokers" don't actually do what their title suggests instead they quote you what your existing insurers wants to renew ask them the question and make them earn their brokers fee is my advice!

Hi,

Please feel free to give us a try for insurance if you like. If you wanted to PM me some contact details I'd be happy to arrange for one of my quotes team to give you a call back.

Regards,

Dan.

Ditto LV. Full Europe cover too...but £320 not £189 as above. Friendly, helpful, clear in their comms.

Every year I renew I end up with a different insurer because the renewal is always far more expensive and even on requotes my existing insurer is still more expensive (but not as much as the renewal price).

Coincidentally I've been with esure this last year for my Octavia and my renewal was nearly double my current premium!

Every year different insurance companies hiked up the premium and we played the game of changing insurers, sometimes the online quote from my insured company was less then they had quoted me in the renewal!

But I have now been with Nationwide for the last four years and the renewals have always been within 5% of the previous year, I am currently paying £420, not bad for a 280HP car.

btw when I first called for a quote for the Superb they could only find details for a 150 diesel which they based their quote on, when I finally came to start the insurance they had found the 280 details and it was cheaper than the 150 diesel!

I have just renewed my insurance for my 4x4 150 Superb Estate with quotemehappy (Aviva).  With no extras it was £197...in the end I got it for £250 with protected NC's, zero excess and hire car.  I find this fantastic and better than my previous Octavia!  Admittedly this isn't for business just the usual pleasure and commute to work,

Big thumbs up for AF. Have been with them for years now & have put several mates their way.

They find great deals, answer the phone quickly & rarely charge extra for amendments such as winter tyres or speeding fines (well for the first 3pts at least!).

Give Dan a call!

Hi,

I ended up sticking with LV.com at around £300 for mine - I shopped around this year as I forgot last year but got quotes £700 plus from several! I've not had such a wide spread in quotes since I was in my twenties.

I'd definitely have a good check around & not renew at that quote! Good luck with getting a better quote.

Just insured with Chris Knott via their link on Briskoda.

Very helpful, accepted my overseas NCD and beat nearly all the comparison site quotes.

£370 for commuting and social and 12k a year = me happy man especially on £150 excess. Give them a try, just have your numbers handy for comparison and barter hard, they do drive a hard but fair bargain!

So finally sorted out my renewal after hunting around the Internet and brokers finally managed to get a great deal from Chris Knott (Briskoda) insurance. At leat 50% off what my current insurance renewal was.

Hopefully will prove the right thing to have done they seem really helpful.

I've just transfered over to Chris Knott.  Excellent service over the phone and a very competitive quote
