Reversing sensors are going crazy!!! Ideas????

Featured Replies

OK, so not had the motor for long but I have my first problem.

When I engage reverse the sensors pick up that I am very close to an obstacle behind i.e. the noise is going BLEEEEEEEEEEEEEP.

Sometimes it works fine and sometimes it goes crazy!!

Has anyone else experienced this and suggest anything I can do other than take it to the dealers?

Are they dirty?

If they seem to be clean then I suggest a trip to the dealer.

Washed it twice now but it has made no difference. A trip to the dealers is looking the most likely remedy!!

Would it be a loose connection somewhere?

Not uncommon on the Superb, usually down to a faulty sensor(s).

This suggestion may be completely ridiculous but are you the chap who has lowered the car and if so, are your sensors picking up the road? That might sound mad but I was reversing off a friends drive the other day, which has a very slight incline, and my sensors picked up the road. I obviously **** myself and jumped out to see what I was just about to hit, but nothing! Do you need to reallign after lowering? Just a thought.

Sounds a very valid point as mine pick up kerb stones when reversing so if you drop the car by 40ish mm then it could be possible they are picking up a twig on the ground or something! :D

Sam - you could have a point mate but it didn't happen straight away after I lowered the car, it seems to have happened in the last couple of weeks? Maybe your right, I will let you know as I am going to have to take it to the dealers to see what's up.

If anything the suspension is higher at the rear so the sesnors should point upwards? Hmmmmmm...

Golfturbo - Thanks mate, you never know do, you!! You on this forum a fair bit?

My car's reversing sensors are very sensitive now to any "incline", as a result of lowering. Even just reversing out of my drive (and its just a standard kerb drop) it goes off.

Is the sensitivity adjustable ?

Mine sometimes go a little crazy picking up something that is not there, ive even gone out to take a look, so may have faulty sensors as well.

Hi, has anybody found a solution to the reversing sensors going crazy, mine started doing this before but the fault cleared itself , unfortunately it has started again and it is not dirt. could this be reset by a vag com?, is it possible to purchase the sensors separately.

Regards

Mine are still going crazy mate, I just ignore them to be honest.

Sometimes they work and sometimes they don't but I think my problem is more to do with the ride height?

Could be worse, the ones on my r32 beep rapidly when the car has already bumped whatever is behind!!!(the ones on my superb have always been pretty accurate though!)

It was worse mate, that's what happened to mine!!!

Had to get the rear bumper re-sprayed as a result!!

Damm things!!

Looks like theres no obvious solution to this problem, in the meantime i am going to try and disconnect the buzzer as its driving me bananas, if i can locate it, i can hear it in the boot but have not spotted the little beggar, just wait untill i get my hands on it

can the sensors be checked with VAGCOM ?

if they can you should be able to work out which sensor is faulty

the electrician at work has changed loads on the Ford Galaxy (VW parts) and i cant remember him doing any on Mondeo,Focus etc

Thanks for your thoughts, but i cant see what the brake lights and reversing sensors have in common, having said that i am willing to try anything to stop that awful long screeeeeeeeehhh.... .

also the mirror on the passenger side has stopped dipping when reverse is engaged, just wondering is there any connection between the 2, could these be controlled from the courtesy unit under the carpet,

Any thoughts or ideas are very welcome.

My nearside mirror did the same thing - the dealer had to reset it on the computer or something like that!!! Not sure it will be connected to the reversing sensors though..... but who knows!!!!

Sounds like to me that there's a faulty wire, mate.

I'd take the back brake lights out and give them a good wipe to make sure there's no dust etc in them.

That should sort it out.

Brake light wiring looks fine mate, having said that they haven't been as bad as they used to be since I had the rear bumper taken off and re-sprayed........

Had mine replaced under warranty within months of picking up new (used) superb. Reckon previous owner had just ignored it, but it's really annoying. It was an intermittent fault, you know one of those that go away the day you take it to the dealers, however they didn't fuss as I'd mentioned it to them a couple of times.

perhaps one sensor has been pushed into the bumper it happens on mine and they bleep continuously til i put my hand up behind the bumper and push it back into place. trevdrive.

Just a thought but My Nissan Primastar ( Renault Traffic ) has these on as well, and also a towbar. If I put a normall tow ball cover on, they go crazy, but if I put a cap that just covers the ball they are fine. But last winter shortly after I got it, they started to play up, and it was down to a small piece of road salt that had got lodgged in one of the sensors. Even though I washed several times, they still did it, until I got a cloth and some WD-40 and cleaned them out. Also not noticed my nearside mirror dropping on mine, but mine is a comfort spec, so maybe they don't drop on that model. Anyone know if they should if so let me know, and I can get the dealer to sort it out.

I may not have a superb but I do have sensors.

Mine beep rapidly when the engine is cold.

The sensors are picking up the steam from the exhaust.
