Petrol vRS and the DTUK box

Featured Replies

Ok I've read a few threads on the TDI vRS and the problems with intermittent issues with power - some reports of it not working or working sometimes and other times feeling 'standard' in terms of power.

I'm wondering who has a DTUK box fitted to their petrol vRS and if there are any issues associated?

It's something I might consider further down the line. The DTUK website claims 316hp for the vRS230 - is this a credible claim?

Has anyone experienced issues? Would people recommend one?

Thanks for the feedback

I have one ready to fit my 230, along with the pedal box. 316bhp is a little ambitious, probably more like 280/290. I hope to get mine fitted soon once I've exceeded 1k! Hopefully some will pipe up soon who have one fitted. I have only ever read positive reviews about them.

Thanks for the reply. I did take a look at the pedal box but wondered if it's worth having due to the switchable driving modes as standard on the vrs230..aside from beefing up the steering weight the vrs mode also increase throttle response

I was recommended the pedal box by another member who has both and he said it helped smooth out the delivery of the extra power from the DTUK box. Without it he found the power to be jerky in most modes. It too has great reviews.

I've got one on my 220, not going back to standard until I sell the car, love it

Program 2 felt standard, prog 3 much more aggressive

Also fab customer service from Andrew and the guys there, I had one in my mk2 diesel and have on on the Mrs fr Ibiza

Anyone know if the pedal box is transferable across the range? ie petrol fit diesel and vice versa?

Are there any issues like the ones reported on the tdi?

I've not had any issues

Maybe ask DTUK?

Maybe ask DTUK?

Thanks for the insight, yes I'm lazy but thought I'd ask a helpful forum

Anyway I have, and there is different software between petrol and diesel for sure

+1 for DTUK.

To be honest, after having Remaps on previous cars, I don't think I'd use another product.

Great product, great bunch of people to deal with.

Fitted a few, it's a bit of a biatch getting to the boast pressure sensor connector but, so worth it.

I'd say the power claims are correct and would question users as to their original power figures, most VAG'S come outta the factory over published figures

Out of interest what map setting did you end up using? Did you go back to 3 or did you find you could get better low down improvement with 1 or 2?

On my scope traces map 2 bent the figures earlier and provided the most low down power, this is what I had mine set to.

I ended up removing it and opting for a remap, as a fuel systems engineer I just wasn't comfortable with a lean mixture on boost.

the FSR+ is a good box but it has it's limitations. Only other option on this engine is a remap which most people aren't willing to do due to warranty.

Interesting and thanks for sharing

Out of interest, the lean running - where there any actual signs over the data i.e. hotter running temps or det?

I do feel e remap always wins but if I were to consider something then it would need to be warranty friendly and undetectable once removed; whereas in the thread you link to it appears that no matter what is done the software will always show if it has been re-flashed.

No nothing, if you didn't know anything about engines all you would feel is more power.

Forgetting the top end figure for a second, the main difference between the box and remap is the way it makes the power.

The remap (and now high flow ITG filter) the power now comes in much earlier and much more aggressively.

You are correct, the mapping company can put it back (and they have done a few which haven't been noticed) but there is always a possibilty.

One reason people buy off Andrew @ DTUK is he is a nice honest guy who is passionate about cars. He is also quite open about the gains the DTE boxes can achieve putting multiple rr'd graphs up. One of a golf GTI making 270bhp.

I have fitted multiple twin channel boxes to the 184 + 170 CR diesel engines with great results and will continue to do so.
