Amundsen SatNav Update Problem

Featured Replies

Hi

Wondered if anyone had any ideas on this problem I'm having updating my sat nav.

I downloaded the latest update for the satnav, before I installed it, I copied off the files from the original sd card onto my computer as recommended in the guide,  then I delete the contents of the card.

I then unpacked the latest update to the SD card, once this was done I ejected the sd card safely from the computer, when I re-inserted it though I found that the filename of the DbInfo.txt had changed to DbInfo.T0T, bit strange.

I then took the SD card and put it into my skoda's SD card slot, the sat nav would then attempt to start up, then switch to a blank screen, eventually it would then re-start and repeat the process of showing the Skoda logo then saying "Starting Navigation" then the screen going black.

I decided to re-format the card in my computer as FAT 32, and restore the original sat nav files, ejecting and re-inserting the card on my computer showed that the DbInfo.txt had not changed it name which looked a good sign, when I put this SD card into the car,  the car infotainment system says "The source contains the navigation database", the Sat Nav attempts to start but just hangs on with this message, after a while I ejected the card briefly for a split second the satnav screen showed with a map but was then replaced with a "Insert valid media into the slot", when I re-inserted the card I get the same message flash up about source containing nav data, but then the message to insert a valid media remains.

I tried turning off the ignition and on again but the message about invalid media still remains.

Any ideas as to why this is happening and what I can do to resolve this as i'm without sat nav at the moment.

Windows PC or a Mac?

I'm using a windows 7 PC

The SD Card for my Navigation system is only 7 GB in size.

Have solved this problem now, I believe it to be something wrong with my PC. I tried formatting the SD card using FAT32.

Then on a different computer ( Running Windows 10 )  I copied across the files for the sat nav update from a USB stick to SD Card, and noticed that when I unplugged and re-inserted the card back into the Windows 7 PC it was not changing the file extension to .TOT, instead it left it as .txt, so I copied across all the files, inserted into my satnav.

At first the sat said "Source contains navigation database", followed by the message "Insert valid media" but after about 5 minutes the sat nav loaded and it's all working with the 2016/2017 maps.

Very strange problem indeed which is something to do with my Windows 7 PC, very odd!

Sorry I know this post is old now but I'm having the same issue as you trying to get the sat nav updated using a windows 7 laptop. U reckon it's the windows version then or did you ever get to bottom of it?

Thanks

Guys,

just wanted to say thanks for the tips. I'm a new Octavia Scout (MY2015) owner and after 1 day decided to update the Nav database! Unsurprisingly after the update (following the instructions from the Skoda website), the system didn't recognize the SD card. I hadn't taken a copy of the 2015 database that it previously held. After reading all the various threads I was much happier that it wasn't something I had done stupidly. In the end I just deleted the files off the SD card, Un-compressed (using izarc) the 13Gb zip file onto a temporary directory on the PC Hard Drive and then copied the maps directory (and all sub-directories) and the .txt file onto the now empty SD card. I didn't reformat the SD card.

System found and recognized the maps straight away this time. Just been out for a cross country drive and the system works fine so all looks well :)
