Disappointing Air Freshner Results.

Featured Replies

I used a magic tree air freshner today.

But it smell more powerful than the one i used last week in Chesterfield.

However me mate Dave says he got one down sarf that was even more powerful than the M3 air freshners you can get off Ebay.

Im so confused as to what do?

Bengie can you help - someone said that you got a vanilla custard one to go with the Birds Brake fluid kit? Will that mean I can acutally keep up with Rav4's?

Magic Trees were invented by the devil. One sniff of a magic tree and feel ill. They are awful and while we are on the subject here's a warning to everyone. If you have one in your car and and expect me to also sit in that car, be prepared to say goodbye to it cos it's going out the nearest window.

Bloody amateurs both of you.

You know you're supposed to keep a Magic Tree in the wrapping don't you? tsk tsk

Also, never hang from the rear view mirror. Keep it in the footwell where you'll get colder, denser air.

HTH

Gotta cut a specialist to cut one out for you, get's much powerful when it's tuned properly :P

Saaaah! :hilarius: This thread is too funny - I can't think of any smell a car has that is worse than a magic tree

Less funny if you're asthmatic when you get into a taxi adorned with such - luckily most have electric windows "Mind if I open the window" then go for it LOL.

Vanilla seems to be acceptable to the majority of folks. Christian Dior do a good perfume :)

A lot of hire shop carpet shampoos are equally acceptable to most folks, which can be effective on a tissue/cloth near an air vent.

Ditto Peppermint cordial. (Try putting a spot of toothpaste on a cloth when you clean the bathroom sink, the toothpaste having china clay equivalent is abrasive enough to clean the sink and precludes the need for air fresheners leaving that minty-fresh smell :)

IOW anything's better than magic trees IMO

Mo

Who needs Magic trees anyway. Theres plenty of others out there. These guys do a great range of comedy air fresheners. The magic tree's days are numbered.

i run upto 3 air freshners in my car at any one time, some say this a bit dangerous as it may overload something but i can't stand them pesky rav4's gettin away from me. i've tried all sorts of combinations of air freshners including a mix of makes aswell as a mix of smells. no conclusive results yet though ;)

also been offered a cupra freshner intake which is meant to improve flavour with less soot when you burn them as incense....

anybody made this work or is this another "emperors new clothes" mod?

You're just not thinking big enough. What you need is a Hybrid Freshener, just don't be caught out by outragous claims of high fluid content such as 200+. Only to get 170ish when put through a Mangle.

I see so much of the air freshner talk is just that? :(

These hybrid freshners are they what would be needed if you actually did want to out perform the more adult fragrance products?

I still like to think the freshner I have is good though so is it not easier to keep talking it up and home nobody ever actually calls me to a runway to put my money where my freshner is?

Im so confused now Des. Its like reading on of ColinD's threads :o

There are After Market Stall fresheners such as Fabiage, but these are just cheap rip offs of the real deal. They give the impression of speed and power but fade very quickly.

Dont care what you all say my switable air freshneer is good enough for me till I can afford the more frequent fill ups for the geniune freshneers.

A potentially harmful smog can form inside cars through reactions between air-fresheners and ozone, say researchers at the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). The reactions generate formaldehyde, classed as a probable carcinogen, and related compounds that many experts believe are responsible for respiratory problems.

The researchers studied the reactions between ozone gas and fragrance molecules such as pinene and limonene, which are emitted by air-fresheners that plug into car cigatette lighter socket. Ozone, produced at ground level when vehicle exhaust emissions react with sunlight, is a common urban pollutant, and environmental bodies have set limits on outdoor levels of it.

"If you open a car window on a high-ozone day, you could trigger these reactions," says Mark Mason, an environmental scientist at the EPA's National Risk Management Research Laboratory, North Carolina. Mason led the study, which is published in Environmental Science and Technology.

Some people actually use ozone generators in their cars to remove unwanted odours and 'clean' their air, which could create in-car ozone levels that are much higher than those in the study. There is currently no regulation of in-car ozone levels.

"If you are concerned about in-car air, you should not introduce any extra chemical sources to your car, and that includes volatile organic compounds and ozone," advises Frank Princiotta, director of the EPA's Air Pollution Prevention and Control division.

"This EPA study is only preliminary because it is based on work in a Fabia-sized test chamber rather than a real car," cautions Ken Giles, public information officer at the US Consumer Product Safety Commission, which regulates products such as air-fresheners.

good find Denis.... this could blow the doors wide open.... finally a proven link between formaldehyde and over ambitious performance beliefs.......

A nice summary, Paul. Couldn't (and didn't) put it better myself.

Perhaps I need an air freshener to solve my Octavia's problems ?

Do you think if I bought myself an air freshner now it would speed up the time until my new car arrives?

What looks best with a black one??

Eagerly awaiting advice.
