fumes in cabin 62 plate vrs tdi

Featured Replies

anyone help, notice fumes in cabin particularly in traffic with fan on. exhaust doesn't sound like it is blowing

car has been mapped with egr delete

yes it has been mapped with egr delete, dpf untouched

Press the recirc button on climate control so it doesn't draw in outside air.

I had strong smell of exhaust fumes coming into cabin, turns out EGR Cooler was leaking.

The Recirc button is only intended for short term use as the cars occupants would be continually breathing in their exhaled breath! Not recommended.

I had the same with fumes, turned out to be the dpf gasket which took a few attempts to fix.

Had a few tdi cr engines on all platforms where the dpf to turbo joint leaks. Its right next to bulkhead so fumes get in car. Get some one to start car when cold while you look at the area near turbo. You can usually see a puff of smoke as it starts

at a loss... all exhaust and turbo connections checked and no leaks. in take system pressure tested and also fine. they agree car smells fumy on outside, suspect it is the diesel

If they don't find anything and the smell of fumes is still present, try a different garage/dealership. I use a local garage for Mot's and for swapping my wheels over. They commented on several occasions that one of my rear differentials was leaking. Took it to my usual Skoda garage and on both occasions they stated there was nothing wrong with it.

Took it to another Skoda garage to find out what was causing the strong smell of exhaust fumes coming into the car and asked them to check out the rear diff, they agreed it was leaking as did the independent engineer who was sent by my warranty company to confirm egr cooler gasket failure and rear diff leaking.

thanks Fin, I am going to take it to a guy I usually use once he is back from Paternity leave, very good at fault finding.

otherwise I wouldn't have it near Skoda tbh.

When reading this it reminds me of a loan car I got for a day (thank goodness) from a body repair place.  This was only about a year and a half ago and it was a blue motion Polo Diesel (maybe not so Blue anymore!).

The loan car was about 2 years old at the time. After driving a few hundred yards down the road, the smell of burnt diesel fumes were horrendous.  My wife, who I had to pick up couldn't stay in the car. Luckily, they only had my car in to fit a part and they called later in the day to collect and return the loan car. I said to them something was very wrong with the exhaust, even though nothing was visibly damaged underneath. A coupling in the engine bay near the firewall makes sense.  It was terrible I can't believe they left it in service and no one esle complained. Must of been a health risk!

From memory, it was worse when stationary.

If the v-band gasket is black it's leaking.

I had to do mine.

Take your top hat cover off your DPF you will see it better.

I did mine 100k.

Darkside devolpments do a kit.
