Chipping a Kodiaq

Are the petrol engines not to be the 1.4 TSI as 125 or 150ps & the 2.0TSI @ 190 ps (187.5 hp) ?

(I read CARWOW where they must have done a typo on the Petrol engine and given it the same BHP as the Diesel.)

SORRY.

This says 132 kW so 177 bhp / 180 ps  The EA888 built in the Audi factory in Hungary.

(Thomas says a 2.0TSI with 180 or 220 hp, maybe that is also in the future.)

@ 22 min 23 seconds

*I like the 1.8 TSI 132kW engines as in the Seat Leon.*

Every new vehicle on sale for over 1 year has to have a Euro 6 emissions engine.

They were all designed well over 2 years ago.

EDIT.

SORRY CORRECTION.   Maybe the new 1.5 TSI could appear in the New Yeti when there is one.

So no Euro 6 Emission engine in a car in 2017 can really be considered as new, they are already in other Volkswagen Group vehicles.

Maybe Engine and gearbox combinations could be considered as new.

The Kodiaq is a big vehicle, obviously not as heavy as a Alhambra but when loaded one will be near the weight of an empty Alhambra with just the driver.

Maybe try a Test Drive of a 1.4TSI 150ps Alahambra.  It is pretty terrible IMO.

A Seat Leon ST (Estate) 1.8TSI 180ps / DSG FR Technology has a kerb weight 200kg lighter and also gets given a 0-60 mpg of 7.7 seconds.

Must be the less Nm's)

The 1.8TSI 192 bhp 2015-16 VW Polo GTI gets 320Nm with a manual but just 250Nm with the DSG and then gets given the same performance figures even though the DSG supposedly makes it heavier.

Not great fuel economy or co2 (g / km)  with the VW  really from the EU Test figures, but then it was not involved in the *Co2 Irregularities scandal like the VW Passat with the same engine / drivetrain.*

if they do the job then you pays your money and make your choices.

(over 300kg kerb weight more than other 180ps petrol / DSG VWG vehicles that are given much the same 0-60 mph times, must be that AWD).

Is Listers getting 0-60 & 0-62 (100km) mixed up?, they often are when taken from VW Figures!

Amazing official 0-100 km considering the official figures the 180ps 1.4TSI twincharger Fabia vRS was given which was a much lighter car even with ballast weights added to the rear crash bar of the hatch back, giving it a 5kg unladen weight more than the estate.

(the heavier twincharger 180 ps Polo GTI was given better figures as per usual for VW Test results, also a lower Co2 (g/km so a lower VED.)

Back on topic.

All these engines Remap very well.

You just need to see what Skoda have done with ECU's once the cars are available, and then its all go with what ever Remap, Chip or Tuning Box you choose.

There are 2012 on CTHE 1.4 TSI Engines that Tuners say they have remapped in other VWG Brands but nobody on this forum with a Skoda with a CTHE has ever been able to have Remapped.

Do you mean in the Kodiaq?

Not a clue other than what is said by the Engine Development Engineer from Skoda in the video i posted in post #6.

Once the cars are in Dealers then is that not when you can try before you buy and then see if you need to up the performance while riding bare back without a Warranty.

Depends on what hardware is in the 180 Tsi, if its the same lump and turbo as the vRS, then mapping to 220 or even 300 is entirely feasible.

But if they have reprofiled the cams, changed the turbo etc, then you need to wait until a reputable tuner gets their hands on one and starts playing ;)

I would have preferred the 220 or better engine, but I think 180 petrol will be fine.

I am guessing they might bring in the 280 lump in future, but as most UK buyers are still sold on diesel, maybe not.

Once the 7 speed DSG is proven, or if you are going for a manual then YES.

Hopefully we will get bigger hp engines as std later??

Yes it has been used and no you will not be a guinea pig any more than VW Group customers always are,

they do little R&D and if things go wrong they will say they are one offs and will bring on the next big best thing.

So we will see in another year or 2 if they have things right yet, they are still getting the hang of door seals, piston rings, chain tensioners,

software cheats and rust inhibiting. 100 years of making vehicles and still sorting out snagging issues.

All of the release engines are known VAG units. All have various tuning-box options available off the shelf, and many will have remappable ECU's. The same reliability and risks apply as for Octavia/Superb/Tiguan/Passat/Golf/A3/A4/Q3/Q5's fitted with same engines. They all tend to be pretty robust.
