Finally fitted the Apple CarPlay head unit, works well, looks modern and has all the functionality you could ever need. Very pleased for the money.

Car is fast approaching 140k service in the next few weeks, other than that still averaging 51-53mpg week in week out, some weeks doing nearly 1000 miles.

Waiting for the weather to improve before refitting the refurbished Prorace 3s in silver with summer tyres.

Nice bit of kit the apple far plays.

Ive yet to fit a Pioneer avic-f88 dab to my vRS.

Just got a defent dab aerial to put on the far first.

Enjoy!

I’ve been collecting the odd bits here and there as times gone on, and I acquired a set of SEAT Leon Cupra 4 pot Brembo calipers/brackets/ 323mm discs a while ago.

I have stripped and derusted all the brackets in Bilt Hamber’s amazing Deox-C and they’re all painted up and ready, but the calipers needed some attention. They have been powder coated before but it’s not lasted well, so I have stripped every part of the caliper apart, split them into their halves and they’re off to be powder coated the correct Mint Green as the Porsche Cayenne 6 pots have been for the yellow G3 Fabia.

Every bit of hardware is being replaced, pistons, seals, dust covers, caliper joining bolts, link pipes, pad support plates, new HEL braided lines are here and some Ferodo DS2500 pads are ready to go in.

Should bling the front end up a bit!

The summer wheels have been powder coated Silver, and have been fitted with a new set of Michelin Pilot Sport 3’s, so they’ll go on at the same time.

Fast approaching the 140k service so I’ve got a fair bit to do, gonna do the cambelt and water pump at this service, new handbrake cables and the full service at the same time. Obviously when I fit the Brembos I’ll flush and bleed the brakes front AND rear as the fluids now done 40k (only 12m old though)

More soon!

Sound like your in the same boat as me. Doing big miles every week, trying to look after it and also trying to improve where possible.

  • Author

Some essential maintenance has been overdue on the black beast, it was noticed at the MOT that the handbrake travel was excessive and the cables were in poor shape, recently the handbrake wasn’t holding at all. Calipers were new just over 12m ago. The outer sheath of both cables were torn and the cable itself was binding with the debris caught inside. New genuine cables were fitted, the handbrake lever adjusted and helper springs fitted on both rear calipers.

I stripped the rear calipers, cleaned everything up and refitted the pads. The pads that were new 40k miles ago are barely worn, testament to the type of high mileage commute I’m doing every week.

Took the opportunity to remove the winter wheels and tyres after 15k of use and fit the refurbished Team Dynamics Pro Race 3s fitted with new Michelin pilot sport 3s.

Comfort upgrade time!

Having had cars in the past with centre armrests for the front seats, I found the Fabia a bit lacking in that area, so I bought some brackets off SeanW on here, a complete new golf mk4 armrest kit and set to work. Not too bad a job but the car is so much more comfortable on the long daily drive, possibly the best value mod I’ve ever done!!!

The SEAT Ibiza Sport seats are holding up well from a dirt perspective after the winter, I will give the interior a good wet vac when the summer is here.

Collected the powdercoated Brembos up yesterday, done in mint green (RAL6029).

Had a nice hour or so today building them back up, used all new internals, seals, dust seals, pistons, wear plates, bleed nipples

Even put some stickers on to annoy our fellow group chat member - plus it’s kind of a homage to the monster Porsche calipers fitted to the Yellow G3 Fabia project lol

Got some new Ferodo DS2500 pads to go in and I’m trying to source a set of lower link pipes as the ones I’ve got are miles too big!

These look spanking gorgeousB) Got me looking at refreshing an old Brembo setup I have in my garage.

You get the bits from biggred, or did you find a cheaper site? :blush

The pistons I had to order on line, seals from Budweg and bolts from some other place lol.

Red rubber grease to lube things up and away you go!

I’ve STILL not got round to fitting the brand new bumper, stuff just keeps getting in the way, anyway I’ve said before I’d had a brand new genuine bumper painted, well this weekend I’ve got the rest of the bits to finish the bumper off, namely a new number plate plinth and new lower grille.

5B813794-39F6-47B5-B49E-A2B0EBBDE1DC.thumb.jpeg.2dce1c33d8e5cfc3e88fdc5c5ecd71fb.jpeg

I have had in “stock” for a while a very very clean plastic rad support panel as the one on the car has some crusty threaded inserts which have ripped out so I’ll be fitting all this at the same time, however one useful mod is concerning the lower front bumper three fixing points which are a pretty flimsy push fit spread rivit type affair, so I have drilled out the rad carrier holes to 9mm, fitted some M6 Rivnuts to it so I can bolt the bumper up solidly from underneath, didn’t get pics of that yet though!

I felt obligated to do some repairs to the long suffering daily beater, approx 4 weeks ago the passenger window regulator decided to eat itself as they do so I’ve been rocking the “length of timber” holding the glass up for weeks. I sourced a new regulator and decided to use rivnuts to fit it instead of stupid rivits.

If you look back at the early pics, there had been a pro install stereo system which I got rid of so this was the ideal opportunity to fit the new pioneer front speaker and also soundproof the door skin with silent coat. Cue lots of soldering, wiring repairs and savaged hands...

This is for the pig who designed these regulators...

So got that all finished and decided to get the Air Con regassed, been 18m since I did the engine swap and fitted a new air con rad so about time I got it working...

The eagle eyed amongst my faithful readers will clock its Kwik Fit. Normally avoided like the plague but their air con service is competitive and they didn’t upsell me anything so all is good. And indeed now COLD!!

Bodywork next!!

I'd been on the hunt for a good used NSF wing for ages, all the used ones were more damaged than the one on the car, so then looked at non-genuine wings and the price difference between a ropey non gen and an original fitment wing was only £20 so I've plumped for the real deal - at least it'll stand a chance of fitting.

Plan is to get it prepped on the inside then shipped out for pro painting, will be fitted at the same time as the new bumper and refinished bonnet.

Hi man,

I am not very-very active on the forums, however I love your thread. I learned quite a few things following your journey. :)

I wanted to ask you where did you get these mats from? They look in very good shape. As far as I can see, they are the OEM ones, right? But have you bought them or they came with the car?

Thanks! :)

The mats in the car were a set I bought off eBay ages ago, not genuine ones, like a charcoal grey with a lighter grey edge, got the Vrs logo on like OE ones. Not expensive from memory

I won’t bore you ever faithful readers too much but in exactly the same fashion as on my yellow G3 Fabia thread, I’ve overhauled the engine cover on the Black Fabia as well.

Same process, same soundproofing just a different colour to match the powdercoated bits under the bonnet.

At least this way there’s some continuity with the modifications on both of them, especially when parked side by side at a show maybe?

Some more shiny bits are here!

Candy Apple Red fuel filter housing..

CC0FA178-4416-444F-941C-67E831B7329F_zps

These are the two options of fuel filter support that slides into the housing, one a shorter filter, one a longer filter (broken top lugs on the longer filter one.

Both of my vRS’s use the shorter fuel filter in them so I’ve ordered a pair of inserts from TPS - part number 6Y0127721B

61463D58-DE16-462C-9A0E-B16C285EA2FD_zps

Now the only thing I’m struggling with is the part that clips onto the top of the filter,

7414B314-B737-4A41-B9AF-0BF0CC25D685_zps

By the look of it I suspect it only comes with the filter housing, right PITA if that’s the case as I need two of them as they age badly and generally crack somewhere.

if anybody’s got one they are happy to donate.... I’d be more than grateful!!!

There’s also been a bit of preventative crystal ball type maintenance/modification going on, if that makes any sense whatsoever??

I was over my tame breakers the other day and picked up a pair of good alloy front consoles, he assured me the bolts came out ok, and they were cheap so I’ve had them for “spares”

66D583FB-0E58-4E33-930A-6140BD2A8F12_zps

I took the old rear bushes out with a mallet and screwdriver, invested in a set of new VAG console bolts.

F1FB303D-558D-4418-A6F1-9A4E8A85A1A2_zps

And as always ran a nice new tap all the way through the threads to make sure they are spotless

35309EE3-98DE-4CD0-9C0E-C2945C44D684_zps

The plan is to get the castings cleaned up, take them for powdercoating along with the spare subrame and vRS FARB and build up a complete spare front section. I have some power flex ARB bushes in stock so all I’ve gotta get is a pair of bottom arms, and they’re cheap enough even for good OEM ones.

Busy old night working on “Triggers Broom” last night, in the space of 3 hours we had stripped and removed all the suspension, fitted new top mounts, new coilovers and all new front brakes, all bled perfectly and still had time for a chippy supper!

I decided that to get the car sitting right with some adjustability coilovers were the way forward. Some research lead me towards some Stance + Ultra ones which had good reviews in the states. Initial findings are the ride comfort is good, the ride height is spot on and they are not crashy etc.

Fitted the SEAT Leon Cupra R brembos and 323mm discs with braided HEL brake hoses. Yes I know they’re not Porsche calipers, the decals are there purely as a nod to Secret Kev as his hatred for anything “scene” is legendary.

D82B79EE-9D89-4797-A684-7A49BD69E68B_zps

Im going to use the car for a week (600 miles) to let the springs settle then I’ll adjust the height to exactly where I want it.

Looks better than before I think?

Gave the car a damn good clean this morning, still getting used to the Auto Finesse Avalanche snow foam

Gave the engine bay a clean and fitted the refurbished engine cover.

Starting to come together now how I want it to be.
